El Cristo que abraza al Mundo .

La estatua de Cristo Redentor está situada a 709 metros sobre el nivel del mar, y se localiza en la ciudad de Río de Janeiro, en la cima del Cerro del Corcovado. Tiene una altura total de 38 m, pero 8 m pertenecen al pedestal. Fue inaugurado el 12 de octubre de 1931, después de cerca de cinco años de obras.
La construcción de un monumento religioso en la ciudad fue sugerido por primera vez en 1859, por el padre Pedro Maria Boss y la Princesa Isabel. Se retomó la idea en 1921, cuando se aproximaba la conmemoración por el centenario de la Independencia.
