Balbina 7 Aug 1906 Appointed - 22 Sep 1921 Died was a French Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church. He served as Archbishop of Rennes from 1906 until his death, and was elevated to the cardinalate in 1916. Auguste Dubourg was born in Loguivy-Plougras, and studied at the seminary in Saint-Brieuc before being ordained to the priesthood on 22 December 1866. He then taught at the Minor Seminary of Saint-Brieuc, and served as secretary of the episcopal curia, vicar general, and vicar capitular of Saint-Brieuc. On 19 January 1893, Dubourg was appointed Bishop of Moulins by Pope Leo XIII. He received his episcopal consecration on the following 16 April from Bishop Pierre-Marie-Frédéric Fallières, with Bishops François-Marie Trégaro and Etienne-Marie Potron, OFM, serving as co-consecrators, in Saint-Brieuc Cathedral. Dubourg was later promoted to Archbishop of Rennes on 6 August 1906. Pope Benedict XV created him Cardinal Priest of S. Balbina in the consistory of 4 December 1916. The Congregation has its origin in the successful mission to the common people conducted by Saint Vincent de Paul and five other priests on the estates of the Gondi family By a papal bull — on January 12, 1633 — the society was constituted a congregation, with St Vincent de Paul as its head. About the same time the canons regular of St Victor handed over to the congregation the priory of St Lazarus (formerly a lazar-house) in Paris, whence the name of Lazarites or Lazarists. In Paris in the nineteenth century, there was even a Masonic lodge of Saint Vincent de Paul, patron of philanthropists. In 1885, after many requests, Leo XIII named Vincent patron of works of charity. http://www.ssvpindia.org/saint_vincent_de_paul.htmA sunburst cross on a shield carried by one of the Crusader knights in the New Orleans Saint Louis Cathedral CIRCUMPUNCT It represents the sun and a sun god (called Ra in Egypt), gold (as in alchemy), an (unbiblical) archangel (Kabbalah), emotional restraint (Freemasons), and the creative spark of divine consciousness within people linking everyone to the creative mind of a universal "god" thus making each persona "co-creator" (astrology). Símbolos de los Cuatro Evangelistas
Mateo: Hombre Marcos: León Lucas: Toro Juan: Aguila

The New Theological Movement:

January 3rd, Feast of the Holy Name of Jesus
In the Extraordinary Form, the feast of the Holy Name is of the “second class” (making it equal to Sundays throughout the year, complete with the recitation of the Gloria and the Credo), but in the Ordinary Form the memorial of the Holy Name was not even included in the calendar after 1970. Happily, the feast was re-instituted as an optional memorial by Bl. John Paul II – we should think that the Name deserves at least this much honor!
In fact, the Feast of the Holy Name of Jesus is of comparatively recent origin, not having become popular until the Franciscan St. Bernadine of Siena preached this devotion in the 15th century. It has been celebrated in numerous ways in the Latin rite – at first the feast was kept on the Second Sunday after Epiphany, then it was moved to the Sunday after the Octave of Christmas (the Sunday between January 2nd and 5th). It is desirable that this feast be celebrated closer to the day in which Christ historically received his name, the day of his circumcision (eight days after his birth, January 1st), and thus the feast is kept on January 3rd in the Novus Ordo.
The insignia “IHS” is associated with this feast, but what does IHS mean? Why is IHS a sign for the Name of Jesus?
What IHS really means – Jesus
The name “Jesus”, in Greek, is written ιησους which is transliterated as “ihsous” and pronounced iēsous. This is the Holy Name as it was written in the Gospels.
However, in Hebrew, the name “Jesus” is written ישוע which is transliterated as “yeshu‘a” and pronounced yeshūa. Finally, in Latin, the Holy Name is written Iesus which gives us the English “Jesus”, since the “j” often replaces the “i” at the beginning of a word (as well as between vowels).
The insignia “IHS” comes from the Latinized version of the Greek ιησους, taking the first three letters in capitals IHS(ous). Much as the popular “chi-rho” symbol (pictured right, X – P) comes from the first two letters of the Greek word for Christ, χριστος (Christos) – XPistos.
This is the true meaning of IHS, it is the first three letters of the Greek spelling of the Holy Name of Jesus. The insignia is nothing more (and nothing less) than the symbol of the Holy Name…

Chi (x) and Rho (p), CHRist |
The insignia “IHS” comes from the Latinized version of the Greek ιησους, [UPDATE: In Greek capitals this would be ΙΗΣΟΥΣ or IHSOUS in Latin letters] taking the first three letters in capitals IHS(ous).
The insignia is nothing more (and nothing less) than the symbol of the Holy Name.
Iesus Hominum Salvator – Jesus the Savior of men
It is popular legend that the IHS stands for the Latin phrase Iesus Hominum Salvator, “Jesus the Savior of (all) Men”. While this is a fine devotion, it is not historically accurate.
The IHS symbol was so popular that it is not uncommon to find the Latin Iesus misspelled as IHeSus (with the “H” added, though in Greek this “h” is equivalent to the Latin “e”).
In fact, the first known use of the IHS abbreviation comes in the 8 th century: “DN IHS CHS REX REGNANTIUM”, the first three words being abbreviated from “ DomiNus IHeSus CHristuS” – “The Lord Jesus Christ is the King of Kings”. For a further explanation of the history of the IHS, see the Catholic Encyclopedia article [here] and [here].
Still, although historically inaccurate, there is certainly nothing wrong with seeing in this insignia a testimony to the truth that there is no other name under heaven given to men, whereby we must be saved (Acts 4:12). Most certainly, Jesus alone is the Savior and without his grace we can neither attain nor even desire everlasting life.
In Hoc Signo vinces – In this sign, you will conquer
After three nails were added under the insignia (together with a cross above), some noticed that the inscription now contained a “V” below the IHS – so that we see IHSV. (see image on the side) In this form it was adopted by St. Ignatius as the symbol of the Jesuits.
IHSV was interpreted to mean In Hoc Signo Vinces, “In this sign, you shall conquer”. It was taken as a reference to the victory which Constantine won against Maxentius at the Milvian Bridge on 28 October 312. Before the battle, the future Emperor saw a sign in the sky (probably the Greek chi-rho X-P, the symbol of “Christ”) and heard the words εν τουτω νικα, which is Greek for “In this [sign], you shall conquer”. The phrase was translated into Latin and it was noticed that the first letters of each word added up to IHSV – thus was born the legend that IHS stood for Constantine’s vision and the Christianization of Rome.
Most certainly, in the Holy Name of Jesus we shall conquer every enemy – and the last enemy to be destroyed is death itself.

4. Jesus comes from the Greek name "Iesous/IHSOUS" and Latin "Iesus." "Iesous" is adapted from the name of the Greek goddess of healing "Iesos/Iaso," the daughter of Apollo, the Sun-deity. This goddess was linked to the Egyptian "Isis" who had a son named "Isu." During the era of Roman Emperors, there were numerous worshippers of "Isis." Many converted to Constantine's religion that mixed paganism with the Messianic faith that eventually became the Roman Catholic Church. The Roman Catholic Church continues to use the sunburst emblem known as the "Eucharist" which to this day contains the Greek letters "IHS" for "IHSOUS." Further research reveals that the name "Jesus" is also linked to the Greek Sun-god "Zeus" who was the Greek interpretation of the Egyptian Sun-god "Amen-Rah."

WHEN JESUS HONORED THE FIRST DAY
"Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you," JOH 20:19.
At the end of forty-nine years there are two Sabbaths in a row, the forty-ninth and fiftith years. The forty-ninth year was the year of the atonement and the fiftieth year was the jubilee. The jubilee is the resurrection. The Lord is teaching us that the Sabbath was moved from the seventh day to the first day at that point. That jubilee was that second Sabbath in a row, and it was where there were two Sabbaths one right after the other. The Lord now honors the first day of the week from that day on--from the day of jubilee--the day of the resurrection of Christ, which was on the first day of the week. That’s the New Testament Sabbath.
The atonement was made on the forty-ninth year, and the fiftieth year was the second Sabbath right after each other which points to that resurrection of Christ as the institution of the New Testament Sabbath on the first day of the week.
The Lord will always bestow honor upon His own institutions. If we want to confirm, in fact, that the first day of the week is the New Testament Sabbath, then we must see how the Lord Jesus Christ bestowed honor upon it. Before the atonement it was Christ’s custom to honor the seventh day with His presence. We see that throughout Scripture, and we see in LUK 4:16; "And He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up; and, as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up to read." That was His custom. He honored the seventh day Sabbath up until the Day of Atonement. Then from that day forward, He honored the first day. The Lord honored the first day as the Lord’s day. Scripture is void of one single reference of Jesus honoring the seventh day with His presence after His resurrection.
After Christ’s resurrection, He honored the first day of the week with His presence. MAR 16:9; "Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, He appeared first unto Mary Magdalene, out of whom He had cast seven devils." We see that Jesus appeared to the two men on the way to Emmaus on the first day of the week in LUK 24:33-36. "And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them, Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon. And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of bread. And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you." This was the same day - that same first day of the week. We see that Christ appeared to His disciples on the first day of the week in JOH 20:19; "Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you." In ACT 20:7 we see that in the New Testament church the disciples gathered on the first day of the week; "And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight." The first day of the week is repeatedly referred to in Scripture as the Lord’s day. That transition took place on that great jubilee, c.f., Leviticus.
It’s so clear there were these Sabbaths, one every seven years for forty-nine years and then another the following year. Two Sabbaths, one right after the other. When Christ lay in the grave was the Old Testament Sabbath, and the New Testament Sabbath on the first day of the week honours the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Let’s look at one more perfect confirmation of this. The Lord gave special honor to the first day of the week by fulfilling that which was spoken by the prophet Joel, sending the promise of the Father on the day of Pentecost. ACT 2:32-33 says, "This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses. Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear." The day of Pentecost was on the first day of the week. There are many Scriptures that help establish that the New Testament Sabbath - the New Testament Lord’s day is the first day of the week, and not the seventh.
It’s very important that we study Leviticus, especially LEV 25:8-10, to see how that these Sabbaths of years were the types and shadows of the atonement in the forty-ninth year and the jubilee in the fiftieth year. It isn’t a matter of speculation, but it is clearly set forth that the jubilee is the symbol of the resurrection of Christ.
How welcome to the saints, when pressed With six days’ noise, and care, and toil, Is the returning day of rest, Which hides them from the world awhile!
Now, from the throng withdrawn away, They seem to breathe a different air; Composed and softened by the day, All things another aspect wear.
How happy if their lot is cast Where stated the gospel sounds! The word is honey to their taste, Renews their strength and heals their wounds.
With joy they hasten to the place Where they their Saviour oft have met; And while they feast upon his grace, Their burdens and their griefs forget.
This favored lot, my friends, is ours; May we the privilege highly prize, And find these consecrated hours Sweet earnests of immortal joys.
