Continuación de En busca de la Edad de Oro:

Los egipcios parecían disponer de unos conocimientos astronómicos fuera de lo común. Bauval,  jugó con un argumento impecable.  Los egipcios construyeron la Gran Pirámide dotándola de una altura original de 146,729 metros. Esta medida, hoy reducida a apenas 137 metros, fue obtenida a finales del siglo XIX por el prestigioso egiptólogo e ingeniero Flinders Petrie. Pues bien, esa medida es a escala 1:43.200 es la del propio planeta Tierra. Me explico: si multiplicamos 146,729 por 43.200 obtenemos la cifra de 6.338.692 que son -quince kilómetros por abajo- los kilómetros del radio polar de nuestro planeta. Hay otras medidas similares deducibles de la Gran Pirámide que abundan en la idea de que el monumento es un modelo matemático de las dimensiones terrestres, a sabiendas de su esfericidad y volumen. ¿Otra casualidad?

Todos estos descubrimientos condujeron a Robert Bauval a desarrollar la hipótesis de que detrás de la construcción de las pirámides se escondía un magnífico plan astronómico. Un plan exacto, pulcro, cuyo descubrimiento precedió a otros de similar naturaleza.

Si la teoría de la correlación de las pirámides con el cinturón de Orión era tan correcta como parecía,  ¿por qué no pensar que el resto de monumentos de Giza tuvieron también un significado astronómico para sus constructores? ¿Por qué no iba a tenerlo, sin ir más lejos, la propia Esfinge?

En uno de sus últimos libros, Bauval afirmaba que la Gran Esfinge había sido construida, entre otras cosas, como una especie de gran marcador de los equinoccios. Durante dos días al año (alrededor del 21 de marzo y el 21 de septiembre, al principio de la primavera y el otoño, respectivamente), el día y la noche tienen exactamente la misma duración. Además, a diferencia de los solsticios, el Sol durante esos dos momentos surge exactamente por el este, proporcionando un dato geoastronómico de inestimable valor para la fijación del resto de los puntos cardinales. Los egipcios dieron su justa importancia a este fenómeno, orientando la Esfinge hacia el lugar equinoccial del horizonte de Giza. Hor-em-Akhet era, pues, el guardián del horizonte.

Señalarlo con un monumento así de inequívoco —me explicó Bauval frente a la Esfinge, en aquel amanecer del equinoccio de 2000—, debió de hacerse con la intención de indicar a las generaciones posteriores un punto de referencia fundamental. Una señal para los iniciados en el arte astronómico de que toda Giza era un <>, y que actuaba de ancla entre el mundo de arriba y el de abajo.

PRECESION DE LOS EQUINOCCIOS

La precesión de los equinoccios, a grandes rasgos,  explica que las estrellas no están siempre fijas en el firmamento, sino que se desplazan siguiendo un ritmo muy particular y difícil de calcular. La existencia de ese movimiento se deduce, no obstante, de la minuciosa observación de los movimientos de las estrellas en la bóveda celeste a través de los siglos. Se trata de un desplazamiento casi imperceptible —apenas un grado en el firmamento cada setenta y dos años— que surge como consecuencia del viaje de la Tierra a través del espacio.

La Tierra tiene un movimiento de rotación sobre sí misma de Oeste a Este.

Y además posee otro más , que hace que el eje del planeta oscile como una peonza, trazando un círculo imaginario en los cielos que completa cada 25.920 años aproximadamente. Y alguien, en el pasado, sin satéites ni ordenadores, sin calculadoras, se dio cuenta de ello.

Vamos a leer que dicen fuentes como Wikipedia sobre la precesión de los equinoccios:

En astronomía, la precesión de los equinoccios es el cambio lento y gradual en la orientación del eje de rotación de la Tierra, que, como el bamboleo de un trompo o peonza; inducido por la gravedad traza un cono en un ciclo de aproximadamente 25.920 años (período conocido como año platónico).

Históricamente se le atribuye el descubrimiento de la precesión de los equinoccios a Hiparco de Nicea como el primero en dar el valor de la precesión de la Tierra con una aproximación extraordinaria para la época. Las fechas exactas no son conocidas, pero las observaciones astronómicas atribuidas a Hiparco por  Ptolomeo datan del 147 a.C. al 127 a.C. Algunos historiadores sostienen que este fenómeno ya era conocido, al menos en parte, por los antiguos sabios de la India, existen indicios también de que el astrónomo Babilonio Cidenas hubiese advertido este desplazamiento ya en el año 340 a.C.

Comentario:

Según fuentes oficiales de la historia, datan el conocimiento de la precesión de los equinoccios a Hiparco de Nicea en el año 147 a.C. aproximadamente. Como veremos La Gran Pirámide es entre otras cosas un marcador cósmico de la precesión de los equinoccios, y en una fecha que según pruebas arqueológicas no oficiales de la Esfinge de Gizeh por erosión según John Anthony West  podrían datarla en el 10.000 a.C. y por pruebas astronómicas no oficiales de Robert Bauval (principio de correspondencia del Cinturión de Orión con las Pirámides de Gizeh y marcador equinoccial de la esfinge) también en el 10.500 a.C.

Ahora trataremos de explicar de una forma sencilla este movimiento llamado precesión de los equinoccios:

Según los egipcios y sus antecesores los atlantes, así como otras antiguas culturas como los mayas y los indios hopi, el Sistema Solar gira alrededor de la estrella Alcyone, el Sol Central de las Pléyades, y tarda 25.920 años en hacer un giro completo alrededor de este Centro Galáctico pasando por las 12 constelaciones zodiacales. El paso por cada Signo Zodiacal, marca un periodo de 2.160 años, donde las Energías del Cosmos ejercen diferentes tipos de influencias sobre la Vida, permitiendo diferentes Ciclos de Vida y de Evolución de Conciencia.

Veamos un Ejemplo. Era de Acuario. La entrada total en la Era de Acuario se producirá el 21 de Diciembre del Año 2012, teniendo una duración de 2160 años, es decir hasta el 4172 d.C.

Y ahora vamos a leer que dice Patrick Gerlyn sobre la precesión de los equinoccios en su libro la profecia de Orión:

EL DESPLAZAMIENTO DEL ZODIACO.

La Tierra “parece” moverse por el zodiaco, de dos maneras. Para compren­derlo, debe mirar las agujas del reloj; verá que giran de Este a Oeste. Esto puede verificarse  observando al Sol, pues sale por el Este y se pone en el Oeste, debido a que la Tierra gira en el sentido contrario de las agujas del reloj, es decir de Oeste a Este.

Durante un día, el zodiaco aparentemente gira alrededor de la Tierra,aunque de hecho es la Tierra la que gira alrededor de su eje.

Durante un año, la Tierra da un giro completo alrededor del Sol haciendo un círculo de 360 grados. Esto significa que parecería que el zodiaco ha completado un gran círculo alrededor de la Tierra en un año.

Si mira al Sol desde la Tierra y sigue este punto, notará que atravesa­rá un signo zodiacal luego de 30,5 días aproximadamente. (365/12 = 30,4).

Más aún, el círculo astronómico de 360 grados se divide en doce sig­nos de 30 grados cada uno (12 x 30 grados = 360 grados). En la 2ª parte veremos el porqué se dividen en 12 sectores de 30º.

Si le cuesta seguir esto, Le pediré un poco de esfuerzo. A partir de mañana, se levantará antes del amanecer todos los días. Instálese sobre un techo y mire a través de binoculares oscurecidos o un telescopio, en dirección hacia la salida del Sol. , apunte los binoculares hacia la constelación de estrellas (signo zodiacal) que se eleva antes que el Sol.

Cada mes podrá observar un sistema del zodiaco salir antes que el Sol. La otra son las cuatro estaciones. ¡Las conozco!….. podrá sumar verano, otoño, invierno y primavera: 10 sobre 10 diré yo. Pero ¿sabe usted en verdad cómo llegó a ser así?

Comentario:

Aunque nos gustaría levantarnos todos los días para ver el amanecer y las constelaciones (algún día lo hemos hecho querido Patrick, y te aseguro que hemos disfrutado mucho), gracias a la tecnología y a programas gratuitos como el Stellarium (podéis bajarlo en Internet de forma gratuita), vamos a ver la salida del Sol en diferentes momentos del año y en diferentes épocas, con el signo del Zodiaco por el que transcurre en ese momento visto desde la Tierra. Cabe destacar la siguiente explicación importante. En el año 2300 a.C. aproximadamente, el equinoccio de primavera se desplazó del Signo de Tauro (Apis y la Constelación  Mentoe) hacia el Signo de Aries, entrando en la era de Aries o según los egipcios Amon- RA. Se erigieron estatuas y templos dedicados a esta Nueva Era y a la energía de La Conciencia Universal y Evolución que traía consigo. El templo de Luxor es un ejemplo de ello, dedicado a Amon-RA.

Zodiaco Tropical-Sideral Era de Aries 2300 A.C.

En la actualidad el equinoccio de primavera sale por el este en el Signo de Piscis, luego ha habido un desplazamiento de la Constelación de Aries a Piscis, es decir estamos en la Era de Piscis, símbolo utilizado por los primeros cristianos (llamados  gnósticos) para simbolizar la Era del  Maestro de la Fraternidad y el Amor Universal, Jesús.

Actualmente el Punto Vernal (PV) o 0º de Aries tropical, apunta a la constelación de Piscis, a la cabeza del Pez, entrando ya en la Era de Acuario:

Se puede observar que el Punto Vernal PV, 0º de Aries Tropical, se ha desplazado 60º desde la Era de Aries hasta la Era actual, final de Piscis, en un periodo de 4320 años.

En la siguiente imagen vamos a ver la salida del Sol en el famoso  Solsticio de Invierno, el 21 de Diciembre del 2012. Podemos ver el Sol entre las constelaciones de Escorpión y Sagitario, en la llamada 13 constelación, Ofiuco. Comentaremos esta posición astronómica tan importante para los egipcios, mayas y hopis en la 2ª parte del artículo.

En la imagen a continuación, vemos el solsticio de Verano del año 2012, estando el Sol en el Signo de Géminis  (aunque por las fechas el 21 de Junio, según el Zodiaco Tropical, es cuando comienza el Signo de Cáncer):

Por la precesión de los equinoccios y el movimiento de peonza de la Tierra, cada 72 años el eje de rotación  de la Tierra se desplaza 1º en relación a la bóveda celeste. En la época actual, en la era de Piscis, se ha producido un desplazamiento del Zodiaco Sideral (posición de las constelaciones de estrellas) en relación a la Era de Aries, hace 4000 años . Pero aunque se hallan desplazado las constelaciones de estrellas, los equinoccios y los solsticios siguen saliendo en los mismos días por el Este, marcando el calendario anual y la Cruz Solar del Zodiaco Tropical.

Cada año, el 21 de junio empieza el verano en las regiones del norte. Ese día, el Sol alcanza su punto máximo en el cielo y todos sabemos que es el día más largo con la noche más corta. Lo opuesto se aplica para nuestras antípo­das, pues para ellas es la noche más larga y empieza el invierno. En el trans­curso de un año se producen otros dos acontecimientos destacables: el mo­mento en el cual el día y la noche son iguales en ambos hemisferios, o equinoc­cio. El equinoccio de primavera de un hemisferio es el de otoño en el otro.

La gente de la Atlántida y otras antiguas civilizaciones eran muy inteligentes. Ellos emplearon astrónomos. llamados Kabirim (medidores del Cielo) que tomaron nota diariamente de las posiciones del zodiaco. Luego de muchos años, pronto descubrieron que había algo que no concordaba. Lenta, muy lentamente, otro signo estelar em­pezó a elevarse el primer día de primavera (cuando el día y la noche tienen la misma longitud). Habían quedado tan impresionados con esto que le dieron distintos nombres a los diversos signos estelares. La Era de Piscis termina y durante el equinoccio de primavera el Sol empezará a elevarse contra la nueva formación de Acuario.

En Egipto, el zodiaco era “sagrado”. Siempre que una nueva era comenza­ba, se reconstruían los templos, jardines, estatuas, esfinges, etc., para que encuadraran con la misma. Los arquitectos paisajistas (hijos e hijas de Ptah, arquitecto del cielo y de la tierra) tuvieron que rediseñar todo, para que se correspondiera con los cambios radicales de la “era de la precesión”.

Ellos eran profundamente religiosos y sentían una extre­ma consideración por el zodiaco. Alrededor del año 2100 a.C, el equinoccio de primavera se desplazó hacia el signo de Aries. Fuentes históricas revelan que el nombre de “Mentoe”, o Tauro, desapareció y fue reemplazado por el Carnero de Amón . Los faraones agregaron el nombre de Amón a sus nombres, a saber, Amenhotep, Amenophis, Tutankhamón. En una de las salas del templo de Akh-Menor en Karnak, la cual es parte del templo de Amón, está escrito: “Palacio de retiro para el Alma majestuosa, Alta sala de Aries que viaja por el cielo”. La razón por la cual los egipcios consideraban al zodiaco tan importan­te, puede hallarse en la historia de Aha-Men-Ptah o Atlántida. De diversos tabloides y textos sagrados, Albert Slosman pudo reconstruir la era de este país. Empezó unos 26.000 años antes de la llegada a Egipto. El primer rey es Ptah-Nou-Fi, quien escribió las primeras “Combinaciones Matemáticas Celes­tiales” en rollos de cuero. En 864 años, el Sol había pasado por doce grados del zodiaco en el “cordón” que va de un lado al otro de la Tierra. Al signo estelar que luego desapareció lo nombró Khi-Ath, o “Juez de los Corazones”. Él justi­ficó este nombre porque para decidir la diferencia entre el bien y el mal, se pesaban los corazones de las personas en ese periodo. No mucho tiempo des­pués, le dio a este signo estelar el nombre de “La Balanza” (Libra).

Cuando leí esto por primera vez, no presté atención a los números men­cionados. Unos meses más tarde, habiéndolo releído varias veces, algo sucedió de repente. Un círculo mide 360 grados; doce grados es un treintavo de esto: 360 / 12 = 30. Multiplicando 864 por 30 da como resultado 25.920. ¡Esta es la duración de un ciclo zodiacal completo! También 12 es igual al número de signos del zodíaco. Entonces, estos números representaban un código deter­minado.

Doubling the Circle

 

John Michell suggests that this (on the left below) is the template for St Mary's Chapel at Glastonbury, as well as for the Stonehenge and other structures. It consists of a circle inscribed in a triangle and a hexagram that are inscribed in another circle. The implication is that there is another hexagon inside the central circle and another one outside of the outer one, ad infinitum.

Adding another hexagram in the center would give us the figures of Metatron's Cube and the Tree of Life, seen on the last page, but Michell never mentions the name Metatron's Cube, and never fully explores the development of this figure.

 

    

I call this geometric exercise 'doubling the circle', because by adding two more circles to the first image (above right) you can prove that the outer circle is twice as large as the inner one, since a vesica made of three over-lapping circles 1 unit wide is 2 units wide. [Remember that the vesica consists of equal circles whose centers are on the circumference of another circle, causing an overlap one radius wide.]

 

The Vesica Piscis

The vesica piscis produces a series of ever increasing (or decreasing, depending on how you look at it) circles, hexagrams, triangles and rectangles, each twice as large as the next one (like the fractals seen earlier). The image on the left below has three 'levels' of circles showing that the outer circle is four small circles tall. [This is the image that illustrates what was said on the previous page about using circles to prove distances in the 'idealized' DC map.]

 

        

Overlaying the figure on the left onto the eagle on the Great Seal so that the top small circle matches the circle around the field of stars (which are themselves arranged like the Star of David) produces the image in the middle above. The image on the left below shows how two vesica (3 circles) define twin equilateral triangles, hexagons and hexagrams, while the image on the right shows how this was adapted to the other side of the Great Seal. [Note how the base of the blue triangle and base of the pyramid coincide.]

 

    

The vesica is the template for the Great Seal, the cathedral plan and the DC map.

Triangulum and Quadratum

Let's look closely at the inner circle in the Milan Cathedral plan as viewed by Caesarino. Inscribed within that circle we find an equal-armed cross and a diagonal square (both in red), a hexagon and a triangle formed by the diagonals of the hexagon.

 

[Notice how the rhombus generates a cross with arms that are un-equal. Draftsmen use two different triangles, one is a 45-45-90 triangle that is one quarter of the diagonal square, while the other is a 30-60-90 triangle that is one quarter of a rhombus. Half a diagonal square is still a 45-45-90 triangle, while half a rhombus is an equilateral traingle.]

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

We now know that the triangle and hexagon derive from the vesica, and are associated with the ad triangulum spoken of earlier. The ad quadratum is based on a diagonal square which results from a circle and a cross. The top of the triangle from the left image and the bottom of the square from the right image, when overlapped, produce the Masonic Compass and Square, which represent the ad triangulum and ad quadratum as symbols of the double soul of the Universe.

 

        

When Striling suggests that the Milan Cathedral was designed using a cross and rhombus (or vesica), he was referring to the quadratum and triangulum design forms which Masons represent by the square and compass and which designers represent by a triangle and a square. In the DC map, the quadratum is represented by the othogonal street grid and the oblique square that constituted the district originally. The District of Columbia is shaped like a diagonal square.

 

Below we add two more large circles to the image above which produces a large Star of David and the rectangular grid. Extending the lines of the hexagon in the middle circle produces the isometric grid (in red). Where those lines cross the big triangle marks the top points of the pentagram. The vesica generates the equilateral triangle, the rhombus, the Star of David, Metatron's Cube and the Tree of Life.

 

 

The ideal template for the DC map

Remember that the ideal template was shortened about 75% to produce the DC plan, meaning that the map image was reduced in height until what was an equilateral triangle now has ~52 degree base angles, accomodating the pyramid cross-section and producing a shortened pentagram and hexagram. The Wash Mmt is south and east of where it 'should' be because it was moved in order to mimic the position of he Queen's Chamber in the cross-section.

In adition to that, the Capitol Building was located north of it's ideal position for topographic reasons expalined above, which throws off everything south of the WH. So, if we move the CB south a little bit and realign the elements of the map that relate to the it, then increase the height of the triangle in the DC map, we will get the above figure in the western half of the map.

Here is an image of the template for all of the map. In this image and the one above, the CB and East Cap St have been moved south, straightening Penn, NY, and Maryland Ave's, and relocating Virginia Ave. Mass Ave is straightened by moving Lincoln Square the same distance east of the CB that the WH is west of it.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Talismanic Power of the Vesica Piscis

We’re looking for a new shield and Coat of Arms to represent Glastonbury – the old one having now outworn its purpose. Its focus on the Christian Church no longer reflects the beliefs of more than half the people of the town who, it turns out, practice more than 70 different faiths between them.

The symbols we eventually decide on for the new Coat of Arms will be very important, because this language of pictures is how the universe communicates with itself. As shamans, we find that symbols are the main way in which the spirits, including the Nature spirits, talk to us. And we also use symbols to talk to them. A picture speaks a thousand words, as they say, and it speaks them in vibrational resonance, frequency and harmonic. This is nowhere less true than in symbols used on heraldic devices which are often, in fact, talismans.

A talisman is a magical design that is charged with the force which it is intended to represent. In other words, sacred geometrical designs are used to represent the universal forces which are in harmony with what their owners wish to attract. The more in harmony it is with those universal principles which are found in Nature, the easier it is to attract the force.

This means that for Glastonbury as a town to flourish, we will need to use and abide by sacred geometrical symbols which represent that force in Nature. We will need to talk to the Universe, or Nature spirits, in a language that they understand. And at the heart of this language is the Vesica Piscis.

Everything that has ever been, or that will ever be, has flowered, flourished and fruited out of this initial seed of life, represented in sacred geometry by the Vesica Piscis.

The Vesica Piscis has been described as the womb from which everything in creation is born, from the realms of spirit into the realms of materiality. It is transcendent in nature because its shape spirals out into infinity in ever-increasing circles, and it also spirals in, into infinity, in ever-decreasing circles.

To quote Nicholas Mann in Energy Secrets of Glastonbury Tor.

“The Vesica Piscis provides a simple way of arriving at the basic patterns and measures of sacred geometry, especially the fundamental ratio of the Golden Section….. These are the ratios, proportions and harmonies found in Nature, in the form of plants, animals, crystals and the human body. They are also present in music and mathematics, and so form the underlying structures of creation.

“The Vesica Piscis is a powerful symbol of the creation and growth of forms in the natural world… It is possible to imagine the progression created by the Vesica Piscis endlessly unfolding the inner dimensions of the Otherworld as it endlessly unfolds in the external world. The symbol is the expression of the ideal proportions of the archetypal inner world passing into visible manifestation, and the tangible proportions of the outer world returning into the world of the external.”

Where the two circles of the Vesica Piscis intersect is known as the mandorla (the almond shape in the centre) and it represents the womb where the Seed of Life is birthed into the duality and then eventually evolves into the trinity – it is the seed bed of all trigonometry.

We see the Vesica Piscis in Nature all around us. We can see it in the human body (the microcosm) and also in outer space (the macrocosm). As above, so below.

Hubble “Hourglass” Nebula

We can trace the Vesica Piscis back for at least five thousand years in temple building designs…. but before going into some of those, I’d like to make what may be a controversial suggestion. Could it be that those all wide-hipped “Venus” figurines – some of which go back about 25,000 years – are also based on the Vesica Piscis with the mandorlas mirroring their wombs?

You may find that a little far fetched – and I admit the realisation only came to me after studying the Vesica Piscis for several weeks to the point where I was seeing them everywhere! But please take a look at a few of these pictures anyway, and then I’ll get back to the more authoritative and authenticated stuff.

We’re pretty sure that our ancestors during the Megalithic period built their sacred sites with the Vesica Piscis as the seed. Prehistoric quadrangles, derived from the Vesica Piscis, were discovered by Professor Alexander Thom as bases for the ground-plans of many European stone circles such as Avebury, Stonehenge and Carnac.

We also believe that the Vesica Piscis was at the heart of pyramid building. The exterior angle of the Great Pyramid of Giza can be reproduced with the Vesica Piscis, and there are many other indications that the pyramids were built on sacred geometrical lines, as we can see in this diagram, where the Golden Mean of phi is represented in the dimensions of the pyramid.

The alchemists of old referred to this fundamental universal principle as the Sacred Marriage, where the male solar force, represented by one circle, fertilised the female lunar force, represented by the other circle. Between them, they give birth to the Child of the Conjunction, or the Child of the Philosopher – otherwise known as the Philosopher’s Stone or Holy Grael.

Most medieval churches in Europe used the Vesica Piscis as the heart seed of their sacred architecture, and the mandorla or Holy Grael also frames much of Islamic art and the Tarot.

Mandorla is the Italian word for almond. The almond is an ancient symbol for the closing up of valuable contents in a hard, almost impenetrable shell. It is a mysterious image of concentration upon the light that shines from within. During medieval times, the almond was interpreted as a symbol of the embryo enclosed in the uterus.

The Vesica Pisces was used to design Glastonbury Abbey in the 12th century. The archaeologist and archaeologist Frederick Bligh Bond must have realised this when excavating the Abbey, and it could be why he designed the new lid of the Chalice Well with a stylised Vesica Piscis after the First World War.

We can also see it clearly in Wells Cathedral, with the mandorla above the arch leading up to the High Altar.

Many of the ecclesiastical paintings of Christ or the Madonna and Child are framed in a mandorla shape, and I don’t think this is a happy accident. Going back to at least King Alfred the Great, we can see that all the power regalia of the land – the geomancy, ceremonies, rituals, sacred art, architecture and heraldry -  was guided by alchemists and seers who were aware of these natural geometrical principles.

They knew that to encase your vision in the mandorla of the seed of life is to create a talisman which sends out a very loud message indeed to the universe. It is a prayer or intention for abundance, fruitfulness and prosperity of your chosen object, which you depict therein.

Even the present shield of Glastonbury, now around 300 years old, has a talismanic mandorla surmounting it, protecting the prosperity and fruitfulness of the Crown and the ruling families of the land.  “Semper Eadem” means “ever the same”. “Floreat Ecclesia Anglicana” means “May the Church of England Flourish”.

In other words, any shield or heraldic device which places an object inside the talismanic mandorla is asking for that object to be protected and to flourish.

So if we choose to design a new Coat of Arms using the Vesica Piscis, we will be using the most ancient symbolic language for our prayer and intention that Glastonbury flourishes. And we will have to think very carefully about what we want to put inside the mandorla if it is to serve the highest good of all in the land, and not just a chosen few. Of course, the ‘chosen few’ may have something to say about that!

Sacred Geometry and the Great Pyramid of Giza:

 

The exterior angle of the 'Great pyramid of Giza' can be reproduced with the Vesica-pisces. It has been long suspected that the Great pyramid was a subsidiary of geometric knowledge. There are several other indications that sacred geometry was an important factor in the design of the pyramid.

The Sacred mean (Phi), was also recorded into the dimensions of the pyramid itself.

 

Pi and the Pyramid.

Egyptian mathematicians arrived at a figure of 3.16 (as shown on the Rhind Papyrus), written 600 to 800 years later and far cruder than the precise ratio the great Pyramid seems to express. The figure of Pi is recorded into the dimensions of the Great Pyramid several  times; As well as the Height/Perimeter ratio of the pyramid itself

The perimeter of its main compartment, the so called “King’s Chamber,” is also exactly 3.14 times its length, and the large granite coffer or sarcophagus in this room shows the same proportion. In the earlier, rhomboidal or “Bent Pyramid” at Dashur, a few miles to the south, the sides begin to ascend at the same 2-Pi angle as the Great Pyramid, then change half way up to 3-Pi (43 ½º ) ratio.

The Union of Opposites - the Mandorla / Visica Piscis / Flower of Life

The Mandorla is an ancient symbol of two circles coming together, overlapping one another to form an almond shape in the middle. (Mandorla is the Italian word for almond.) The Mandorla is also known as the "Vesica Piscis", symbolizing the interactions and interdependence of opposing worlds and forces. The Vesica Piscis is the archetypal expression of two-ness. It is another symbol that expresses growth by division.

It is also part of the Flower of Life in Sacred Geometry (shown below).

Although the symbol has its origins long before the Christian era, the early Christians used the symbol as a method to describe the coming together of heaven and earth, between the divine and human. Buddhists use the symbol as well.

The circles symbolise interacting but complementary opposites. The space within the overlap is the place in which we are called to " remain ", the "liminal space". This is the place where you arrive after you leave one room and have not yet entered another. In this place, you are living on the threshold and this requires faith. All transformation takes place in liminal space.

If we deny one of the opposites (e.g., our shadow, death, etc.), the circles may only touch; they do not intersect. In this situation, we are polarised, out of balance. Perhaps too when we become wholly integrated, the overlap is total and there appears to be only one circle (for awhile anyway).

The Mandorla depicts the union of apparent opposites, the same union of which the mystics speak. Our ego-consciousness divides reality into subject and object, whereas out true self experiences unity and harmony; Thomas Merton speaks frequently about this (in his book The New Man ). In the Mandorla both of these aspects coincide. 

Nicholas of Cusa speaks of the coincidence of contradictories or coincidentia oppositorum :

... coincidence does not really describe God. Rather it sets forth the way God works, the order of things in relation to God and to each other, and the manner by which humans may approach and abide in God. God is beyond the realm of contradictories. God ... preceded opposites, is undifferentiated, not other, incomparable, and without opposite, precedes distinctions, opposition, contrariety, and contradiction.

Nicholas of Cusa also writes:

"I have found the place where one can find Thee undisguised. It is surrounded by the coincidence of opposites. This is the wall of Paradise in which Thou dwellest. Its gate is guarded by the “highest spirit of reason”. Unless one overcomes it, the entrance will not open. On the other side of the wall of the coincidence of opposites one can see Thee, on this side never." (Jager, p.77)

To step into the Mandorla is to move beyond "either-or" thinking - even beyond ideas of common ground or compromise - and stand in the tension of opposites long enough for something new to emerge. In the realm of the Mandorla, the whole truly yields something greater than the sum of its parts, opening doors of possibility, discovery, and creativity.
