Phi in the Bible


 

Although perhaps not immediately obvious, phi and the golden section also appear in the Bible.  Also see the Theology page.

The Ark of the Covenant is a Golden Rectangle

 

Ark of the Covenant

In Exodus 25:10, God commands Moses to build the Ark of the Covenant, in which to hold His Covenant with the Israelites, the Ten Commandments, saying,

"Have them make a chest of acacia wood-
two and a half cubits long,
a cubit and a half wide,
and a cubit and a half high."

The ratio of 2.5 to 1.5 is 1.666..., which is as close to phi (1.618 ...) as you can come with such simple numbers and is certainly not visibly different to the eye.  The Ark of the Covenant is thus constructed using the Golden Section, or Divine Proportion.  This ratio is also the same as 5 to 3, numbers from the Fibonacci series.
 

In Exodus 27:1-2, we find that the altar God commands Moses to build is based on a variation of the same 5 by 3 theme:

"Build an altar of acacia wood, three cubits high; it is to be square, five cubits long and five cubits wide."

 

Note:  A cubit is the measure of the forearm below the elbow.

Noah's Ark uses a Golden Rectangle

 

In Genesis 6:15, God commands Noah to build an ark saying,

"And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits."

Thus the end of the ark, at 50 by 30 cubits, is also in the ratio of 5 to 3, or 1.666..., again a close approximation of phi not visibly different to the naked eye.  Noah's ark was built in the same proportion as ten arks of the covenant placed side by side.

The relationship of phi and 666

Revelation 13:18 says the following:

"This calls for wisdom. If anyone has insight, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is a man's number. His number is 666."

This beast, regarded by some as the Anti-Christ described by John, is thus related to the number 666, one of the greatest mysteries of the Bible.

Curiously enough, if you take the sine of 666º, you get -0.80901699, which is one-half of negative phi, or perhaps what one might call the "anti-phi."  You can also get -0.80901699 by taking the cosine of 216º, and 216 is 6 x 6 x 6.

The trigonometric relationship of sine 666º to phi is based on an isosceles triangle with a base of phi and sides of 1.  When this triangle is enclosed in a circle with a radius of 1, we see that the lower line, which has an angle of 306º on the first rotation and 666º on the second rotation, has a sine equal to one-half negative phi.

In this we see the unity of phi divided into positive and negative, analogous perhaps to light and darkness or good and evil.  Could this "sine" be a "sign" as well?

In addition, 666 degrees is 54 degrees short of the complete second circle and when dividing the 360 degrees of a circle by 54 degrees you get 6.66... The other side of a 54 degree angle in a right angle is 36 degrees and 36 divided by 54 is .666.

Phi appears throughout creation, and in every physical proportion of the human body.  In that sense it is the number of mankind, as the mysterious passage of Revelation perhaps reveals.

The colors of the Tabernacle are based on a phi relationship

The PhiBar program produces the colors that the Bible says God gave to Moses for the construction of the Tabernacle.

As it says in Exodus 26:1, "Make the tabernacle with ten curtains of finely twisted linen and blue, purple and scarlet yarn, with cherubim worked into them by a skilled craftsman."

Set the primary color of the PhiBar program to blue, the secondary color of the PhiBar to purple and it reveals the Phi color to be scarlet.

This reference to the combination blue, purple and scarlet in the construction of the tabernacle appears 24 times in Exodus 25 through 39, describing the colors to be used in the curtains, waistbands, breastpieces, sashes and garments.

These are the perfect dimensions for expressing the value of 'Phi' (pronounced 'FY' as in 'hi-fi'). This is referred to also as the Divine Proportion, Golden Section, or Golden Ratio. It is ALL throughout the scriptures. It is the same ratio used to build the Ark of the Covenant. It is also witnessed throughout Gods creation. TPTB have hijacked this knowledge and are WITHHOLDING it from us while they themselves partake of it's benefits.

This is the proportion linking music, colors, and architecture. Look at a guitar fretboard, for example. The divisions between frets are spaced based on the Phi ratio.

You cannot 'calculate' the 666 without understanding Phi, I believe.

I am currently developing software to reverse engineer Noah's Ark which would be impossible without the Phi ratio (Noah employed it EXCLUSIVELY, apparently). The Ark was much more than a boat. It was a MARVEL OF ENGINEERING. When you understand the concepts of it's construction you will be floored, if you are truly interested in mathematics of the universe.

The Lost Symbol  

  The Search for Eternity


Throughout the years, the finest of human minds have tried to spread truths or knowledge that they had discovered, and challenged the common perceptions of their times. A large portion of those people were tortured, shunned, or paid with their lives. 

There is another way to bring knowledge to the enlightened person. The coding of knowledge in symbols has been one of the most common ways in human history. Another interesting way is conveying messages through books. Books are a more comfortable means of “digestion” by society, especially if the fundamental truth is obscured by a tale of fantasy or science fiction. Examples of this are “Gulliver's Travels” by Jonathan Swift which was actually a profound criticism of society, or “The Master and Margarita” by Mikhail Bulgakov which protested against Stalin and the communist regime.

Assimilating criticism or truth that is hard to digest in a book is more comfortable because the reader receives the message through a filter of a fictional plot. Instead of slamming the truth in the reader's face, the message is transferred slowly to the enlightened reader.

The Lost Symbol book

This form of symbolic coding or encryption existed and continue to do so throughout human history. A surprising source of this type of encryption can be found in Dan Brown's recent novel “The Lost Symbol”. In this novel, written in the form of a popular thriller, an important message is conveyed, a message that has been encrypted throughout the generations and has resurfaced throughout time. It is the human search for the divine and the eternal. From the dawn of time, mankind looked at itself and had seen the entropy, the extinction, and the change. The human fear of the upcoming end, had lead mankind to seek the eternal. The search had lead to several interesting phenomena.

The first phenomenon is religion, which provided answers and a path for the masses. The fear of the end was transformed to a promise of eternal life in paradise for the believer after his death. Ancient civilizations such as the Maya and the ancient Egyptians dealt with religious rituals and preparations for the after life on a daily basis. Absurdly, the search for the truth lead to cynical exploitation of the masses and the use of “mediators” that "linked" those higher powers to humanity.

This cynical cycle of exploitation of the masses by threats and fear lead the discoverers of the truth to encrypt the truth about the nature of reality and the true nature and ability of man. The truth was coded in artwork, architectural  monuments, and philosophical and religious writings.

The secrets of ancients

In order to discover the secret of the ancients, we must go back to the ancient world. The ancients observed the complex universe around them with wonder. They discovered patterns and periodical cycles that repeat themselves in nature. Wonderful interactions and organized structures that suggested a mysterious and amazing presence of laws and set patterns in the universe.

Ancient Philosophers and the Golden Ratio

Discovery of geometric relations in the universe lead the lovers of truth, the ancient philosophers (the word philosophy is derived from two Greek words philo and sophy meaning love of truth) to the discovery of the “Golden Ratio”. It is a geometric ratio that exists in countless patterns and structures in the universe.

The Golden Ratio

The Golden Ratio or Golden Section is a ratio that is formed when a line is divided in this form (Figure 1) so that AB/AC=AC/CB. Namely that the ratio between AB and AC is equal to the ratio between the ratio between AC and CB. This proportion shows us that the ratio between all of the line AB to it bigger section AC is equal to the ratio between AC and the smaller section BC. When this is calculated mathematically the number 1.61803... is attained. This number is known as Phi (φ) and this is it's mathematical equation (Figure 2). The Greek symbol of Phi is parallel to the sound “PH” in English and is used to represent the proportion of the Golden Ratio. The name Phi is derived from the name of the ancient Greek sculptor Phidias who was also a mathematician and built the Parthenon and the sculptures there based on the Golden Ratio. One of the surprising things regarding the Golden Ratio is the geometric law that represents the idea that the Micro and the Macro are the same. In essence, the Golden Ratio reveals to us that the laws that govern the motion of the starts and galaxies are the same laws that make up the human body. As the ancients dived deeper into the law they discovered more and more mysterious facts. They discovered that the law reflects the mysterious relativity between man and universe. The ancients actually discovered that through the laws of the Golden Ratio, they could unveil the secrets of the universe and find eternity.

The first of the ancient mathematicians laid the foundation for the search for eternity. Euclid, in his first mathematical book “ Elements” which Albert Einstein called “The Devine Book”, laid the foundations for modern geometry. Along with it came Plato and the five perfect solids which hold the secrets of the Golden Ratio.

The Magical Mystery Tour

Pythagoras (considered the father of philosophy) and his disciples claimed that the entire universe leans on mathematical laws.  They believed that in its deepest level, reality is mathematical in nature, and that philosophy is a genuine tool for spiritual understanding. Moreover they believed that the human spirit can experience unification with the divine and that certain symbols have real mystical meanings. Over time this knowledge was forgotten and “rediscovered” in the Renaissance by men like Luca Pacioli, Leonardo Pisano Fibonacci, and more.

The places where this knowledge was encrypted are surprising. 

In the bible the Golden Ratio appears in the book of Genesis in the story of Noah's ark, where God instructs Noah to build an ark:
"13: And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth. 
14: Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch. 
15: And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits.” (King James Version).

Also in the Book of Exodus when God commands Moses to build the Ark of the Covenant.
“10: And they shall make an ark of shittim wood: two cubits and a half shall be the length thereof, and a cubit and a half the breadth thereof, and a cubit and a half the height thereof. 
11: And thou shalt overlay it with pure gold, within and without shalt thou overlay it, and shalt make upon it a crown of gold round about.” (King James Version).

Division of the measurements in both cases gives the number 1.666666....namely the Golden Ratio in an almost perfect manner. In the case of Noah's Ark, the numbers 3 and 5 are part of the Fibonacci series which is directly tied to the Golden Ratio and exists in countless places in nature.

Actually the story of the Ark of the Covenant holds several ideas in it. The use of the Golden Ratio in the Ark of the Covenant represents the gate to the secrets of creation and divinity.

The Ancient Alchemy symbol for Gold happens to be the ancient philosophical symbol for unity and the beginning of creation. This is the symbol of the Monad. The use of this symbol ,the circumpunct, was used by the Greek philosophers and Pythagoras to represent the point of the beginning of creation. From this symbol one may evolve towards the additional rules of creation including the Golden Ratio.

The Monad symbolizes the secret of creation and contains the idea of cosmic consciousness which experiences itself and learns from itself by observation and experience of the micro and the macro, and vice versa. The ancient alchemists used this symbol to represent Gold because Gold represents the divine and the eternal, since Gold is not subject to annihilation and entropy.

The measurements of the Temple in Jerusalem and other hidden proportions claimed to be encrypted in the Bible kept many busy over the years. One of the researchers who tried to discover additional cosmic secrets from the structure of the Temple in Jerusalem was non other then Isaac Newton, the father of modern physics, who became engrossed in the Bible and in ancient Jewish mystical writings in order to find more encryptions of the secrets of the universe.

The Lost Secret

The fact that many philosophers delved into esoteric and mystical writing raises two questions. The first being -do these ancient writings contain secret encrypted truths? The second: if so, what is this truth?

The symbol of the Monad is a basic symbol, and from it another symbol is derived – the Tetractys.
When I observed sacred numbers in Jewish tradition such as 5, 13, 26, and 72 I discovered them surprisingly in a consistent form in artworks of the great masters of the Renaissance and in the geometric structures the greek philosophers studied.

If we take the most important symbol of the Pythagoreans – the Tetractys, we will find a surprising discovery. The Tetractys was to the Pythagoreans the symbol and the diagram of the entire universe. The meaning of the word Tetractys in Greek is “Fourfold”. The symbol of the Tetractys was so important to the Pythagorans that they used it as their oath. "By him that gave to our generation the Tetractys, which contains the fount and root of eternal nature…..".

Now notice this. In the Bible the name of God is written as YAWH (יהוה) and the letters represent the cycle of time and the periodical motion of the universe. This name is comprised of the words “Was” (היה), “Is” (הווה), and “Will be” (יהיה). The name simply represents a state of "being" or "existence".In the Jewish tradition there are the 72 sacred names of God– these are 72 combinations of three letters that are created by sectioning the middle  verse of the Bible in a certain way. According to Jewish tradition, with these combinations – creation was made. If you take the name of God in Hebrew (יהוה) and place it in the order of the letters in the Tetractys, you will get the number 72.

Actually it is possible that if those people who were trying to decipher the “Names Of God” would have turned to geometry, they would have uncovered the big cosmic secret. If the symbol of the foundation of creation is the Monad, the circle with the dot in the middle, what would happen if we would use the number 72? The circle is divided to 360 degrees since the days of the ancient Sumerians some 5000 years ago. Dividing the circle by 72 gives us five points from which we derive the Pentad. The Pentad was so secret and sacred in ancient times and the Pythagoreans used it as a secret mark to identify one another. They studied the geometric properties of the shape rigorously and since it was so secret to them the knowledge was passed on only orally.

Knowledge of the Pentad resurfaced only during the Renaissance in Luca Pacioli's book (illustrated by Leonardo de Vinci) “De Divina Proportione” (The Devine Proportion) meaning the Golden Ratio. From the Pentad we can produce the Golden Ratio, if we use a triangle at an angle of 72 degrees we reach the Golden Ratio again. Of the Pentad, one of the five Platonic solids can be derived, the Dodecahedron. The use of the Platonic Solids (5 polyhedron structures , each being constructed from identical polygons) by Greek philosophers was common and they saw them as the elements of the universe, the Dodecahedron being the most important.

The Renaissance

During the Renaissance some intensive research was done on the Golden Ratio, the 5 Platonic solids, and the Thirteen Archimedean Solids.
The search for the use of geometric structures lead me to the famous and laden with symbology creation of Albrecht Dürer from 1514: Melancholia I. The old engraving depicts a winged character which represents the artist himself searching for the truth. The character is holding a compass and looking at a geometric structure. In the engraving, an hourglass is seen which represents that time is running out, and also a magic square with the number 34 which probably represent Jupiter. There are also other symbols with esoteric meaning. An examination of the structure of the engraving raises the conclusion most researchers agree on, that the base of the diamond like structure is based on the angle 72. 


Observation of  Luca Pacioli's painting from 1495 reveals to us the tight link between geometry, the Golden Ratio, and art. In the picture we see  Luca Pacioli drawing one of Euclid's theorem and looking at a glass structure of one of the Archimedean Solids (the Rhombicuboctahedron) filled half way with water. On the table next to him a Dodecahedron appears (and by the way the other figure is probably Albrecht Dürer).

So what is the hidden key which everyone has been searching for?
As I was looking at the Tetractys and seeing how the letters of the name of God in Hebrew create the nuber 72, I realized that there was probably a tight connection between the Pythagoreans and the kaballa.

Jewish Kaballa tried to tie between man and God and encrypted the idea that the human being can unite and become ONE with the CREATOR itself and become a creator by himself-this knowledge was hidden in esoteric symbolism. According to Jewish tradition, the secret formula to the universe is comprised of 216 letters and of 72 triple combinations. If we go back to the Bible and examine the numerical symbology that is found there, we will find (as I had already mentioned) that the proportions of Noah's ark are close to the Golden Ratio and the measurements of the ark circle around the number 3 and f which are a part of the Fibonacci sequence.

In the story of Elijah on Mt. Carmel there is the use of the number 12 and there is a symbolic duplication that Elijah performs of 12*12 which is 144, the 12th number in the Fibonacci sequence. If we add the use of the 72 names of God and the explicit name of 216 letters we find that we get only one thing – a Dodecahedron. The 72, 216, and 144 are all part of the five angles of the Pentad we create out of the circle. The 3 and the 5 being the geometric definition of the base of the Dodecahedron (3 Pentads around each vertex), the number 12 being the number of facets of the Dodecahedron.

The more you gaze at the same old symbology, you realize that the ancients tried to find the way to the secrets of creation itself. The perception of the link between MAN and CREATION and seeing them as a micro-universe is the big secret of the philosophers and the mystics.

In the books of Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa, the 16th century astrologist and alchemist, the human body is depicted in parallel to a Pentad and other geometric structures. The entire universe and the Creator itself are reflected in each of us and in the ability of each of us to reach the same divine abilities.

All of creation was formed in order for the Creator or this unity to learn and experience itself, because in a state of unity there is no relativity. The one can not experience itself. 

When those ancient philosophers began studying the universe through those geometric mathematical rules they were the micro studying the macro, or in other words it is the universe studying itself. Each of us is a reflection of the universe and the Creator itself. When I searched for a symbol for this idea I came back to Leonardo de Vinci and  Luca Pacioli. One of the structures that appears in the book De Divina Proportione and in  Luca Pacioli's famous picture is the Rhombicuboctahedron – one of the 13 Archimedean solids. When the structure, as it appears in the painting, is examined closely, a reflection of the room can be seen and the view that is seen from beyond the window. The reason for this is that a spherical panoramic picture of 360 degrees can be projected on this shape in 180 degree precisely. As a symbol, it is a structure that to me represents how the universe experiences itself through our eyes. 

Some years ago, scientists in the field of cosmology began measuring trace radiation from the big bang. Their calculations produced an interesting result. According to the latest calculations, our universe is finite and its structure is a Dodecahedron.

How did those ancient philosophers reach that same understanding thousands of years ago? The answer is that all those geometric rules show us that we are the pattern of the universe itself and the knowledge of the universe exists in us and is waiting to be discovered.

   As Beckmann points out, "Archimedes started with a hexagon and progressively doubling the number of sides he arrived at a polygon of 96 sides, which yielded pi as 3 1/7, or 3.142857." 7 The importance of relating pi to septenary units is obvious in a Biblical light when we consider God's abundant use of the number seven in His ordering of Creation. Some of this evidence is covered in our website essay on the Calendar of the Israel. This ratio of 22/7 is also intriguing because it expresses the ratio between the 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet, in relation to its seven vowels. This is a supporting factor in the idea that the roots of writing & the first alphabet originate in the celestial gospel. As the first "written" revelation to mankind, the stars in this gospel were named and numbered by God [Ps. 147:4]. The divine message of the coming redeemer and the means God chose to deliver it, thus provide the sacred foundation of all language and mathematics. As the divine original source of this wisdom, the witness of the stars was above reproach. The pi ratio expressed as 22/7, reflects this perfection of the celestial gospel, in at least the mathematical, geometrical and linguistic contexts.
  This trend continued when God's media of revelation transitioned to the written word, when God first wrote the 10 Commandments in precious stone, which Moses the Lawgiver delivered to the people of the Nation Israel. This marked the start of the Mosaic Law Administration. The Canon of truth for the Patriarchal Administration was the celestial gospel, given directly by God, but is was up to men to apply these truths according to the principles of this system God put into place. Even so the Law began with writings from "the finger of God," but transitioned to the written Scriptures given by revelation from God, to "holy men of God, who spake as they were moved by the holy spirit" [II Pet. 1:21]. During this transition from the Patriarchal to the Law Administrations, men became the carriers of the divine message, and the potential for corruption was introduced into the equation. The Human Will must be freely subject to the Will of God to keep the corruption out in both divine systems of revelation. This brings us to the answer that lies beneath the surface of I Kings 7 as it relates to the ancient Gematria of the Hebrew language. Men like Dr. E.W. Bullinger in his book; Number in Scripture, reveal the details of this subject. We will only scratch the surface here. but before we do let's consider one final point connected with septenary measuring units. 
The following note from Keil and Delitzsch' Commentary on I Kings 7:23 below, adds support to the application of pi relating to septenary units as seen in the brazen sea above, [3.142857]
and the knowledge of its application by the ancient Hebrews, via revelation from God, in the dimensions of the Temple and its sacred furniture and accessories.   

"The brazen sea (cf. 2Ch. 4:2-5). - “He made the molten sea - a water-basin called יָם (mare) on account of its size - ten cubits from the one upper rim to the other,” i.e., in diameter measured from the upper rim to the one opposite to it, “rounded all round, and five cubits its (external) height, and a line of thirty cubits encircled it round about,” i.e., it was thirty cubits in circumference. The Chethib קוה is to be read קָוֶה here and in Zech. 1:16 and Jer. 31:39, for which the Keri has קָו in all these passages. קָוֶה or קָו means a line for measuring, which is expressed in 1Ki. 7:15 by חוּט. The relation of the diameter to the circumference is expressed in whole numbers which come very near to the mathematical proportions. The more exact proportions would be as 7 to 22, or 113 to 355.”[emphasis mine]

 The septenary relation to pi uncovers the link between the pi and phi ratio, through the popular Fibonacci Series. This link makes it possible to obtain pi without the need for measuring! This is illustrated in the following quote from Livio Stechini:

"It is possible to use the Fibonacci Series to obtain an accurate relation for the diameter of the circle to its circumference, without recourse to pi. In the Fibonnacci series of 21, 34, 55, if 21 is taken as the diameter of a circle, its circumference will be 55 x 6/5 = 66, accurate to the one thousandth part, giving the Great Pyramid value of pi as 22/7 = 3.142857. Higher numbers in the fibonacci series provide increasingly finer values in whole numbers accurate to one ten-thousandth part. Prolonging the series to 80, 144, 233, 377, 610... a diameter of 144 (4 x 576) gives a circumference of 377 x 6/5 or a pi value of 3.1415. A diameter of 233= a circumference of 610 x 6/5 or a pi value of 3.1416..."9

  This mathematical affinity between pi and phi (pi= ز x 6/5, equivalent to 2.618 x 6/5 = 3.1416) will be further expounded in our essay on the Great Pyramid, especially in the relation between its base and height as seen in Plate 1 above. Now lets look beneath the surface of I Kings 7. The Hebrew word for "line" in verse 23 is normally spelled with two Hebrew letters, but as Jochen Katz points out; this word is written with an extra letter.10 A subject that has gotten much attention of late is "Bible codes." These codes are revealed with the use of the numerical values of the letters of the Hebrew and Greek languages, used in the Bible. E.W. Bullinger captured the essence of this referring to "the supernatural design in the use of number both in the Works of God and in the Word of God." He delineates four topics below in his book Number in Scripture:

1. Numbers of things mentioned.
2. Numbers of words and things.
3. Numbers of words used for a thing.
4. Numbers formed by the letters of the words themselves.

 The last category above, the ancients called Gematria.11 Since the letters of the Hebrew alphabet are used instead of numbers, each letter has a numerical value. As Jochen Katz points out: "we can take the ratio of (the gematriacal value of "qav") in its unusual word form (having three letters), to the regular word form with two letters which is 111/106."12 The value of this ratio (1.047198) when multiplied by the Bible's basic value of pi; (3) gives the result of 3.1415, or pi accurate to five digits! This formula is revealing because it employs the computation of a ratio hidden in the number values of the Hebrew language, to yield a higher degree of mathematical accuracy for the pi ratio, than its surface value of 3. This information is useful when we consider the application of pi in the Great Pyramid, and in light of the other Biblical uses of this word "qav," that we have just touched upon.
   This sub-surface enlightening of how pi is used in the Bible again stretches the envelope of the historical awareness of the scientific sophistication in the ancient world. Since this expertise is revealed as an aspect of the dimensions of the sacred furniture of the Temple and Tabernacle, it makes sense that God's knowledge of these matters would far exceed human knowledge. This is exactly what Isaiah tells us:

Certain solar system orbital periods are related to phi

Certain planets of our solar system seem to exhibit a relationship to phi, as shown by the following table of the time it takes to orbit around the Sun:

Saturn reveals a phi relationship in several of its dimensions

The diameter of Saturn is in a phi relationship with the diameter of its rings, as illustrated by the green lines.

The inner ring division is in a phi relationship with the diameter of the rings outside the sphere of the planet, as illustrated by the blue lines.

The Cassini division in the rings of Saturn falls at the Golden Section of the width of the lighter outside section of the rings.

A closer look at Saturn's rings reveals a darker inner ring which exhibits the same  golden section proportion as the brighter outer ring.
 

Venus and Earth reveal a phi relationship

Venus and the Earth are linked in an unusual relationship involving phi.  Start by letting Mercury represent the basic unit of orbital distance and period in the solar system:

In addition, Venus orbits the Sun in 224.695 days while Earth orbits the Sun in 365.242 days, creating a ratio of 8/13 (both Fibonacci numbers) or 0.615 (roughly phi.)  Thus 5 conjunctions of Earth and Venus occur every 8 orbits of the Earth around the Sun and every 13 orbits of Venus.

Mercury, on the other hand, orbits the Sun in 87.968 Earth days, creating a conjunction with the Earth every 115.88 days.  Thus there are 365.24/115.88 conjunctions in a year, or 22 conjunctions in 7 years, which is very close to Pi!

Note:  We sometimes forget about the asteroids when thinking of the planets in our solar system.  Ceres, the largest asteroid, is nearly spherical, comprises over one-third the total mass of all the asteroids and is thus the best of these minor planets to represent the asteroid belt.  (Insight on mean orbital distances contributed by Robert Bartlett.)

2005 unveiled the discovery of a 10th planet called 2003UB313.  It was found at a distance of 97 times that of the Earth from the Sun.  Its ratio to Pluto would thus be 2.47224, much higher than any previous planet to planet orbital distance ratio.  Could it be that this is actually the 11th planet and the 10th planet will be found at an orbit whose ratio is 1.52793 times that of Pluto, preserving the phi average?  Time will only tell, but if it happens remember that you heard it here first.


The shape of the Universe itself is a dodecahedron based on Phi

New findings in 2003 based on the study of data from NASA's Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) on cosmic background radiation reveal that the universe is finite and shaped like a dodecahedron, a geometric shape based on pentagons, which are based on phi.   The the Universe page for more.

The Golden Ratio

The golden ratio is a mathematical law known by many names, which include the: golden proportion, golden mean, golden cut, divine proportion, extreme and mean ratio, phi or Ф (the 21st letter of the Greek alphabet).

 

It can be expressed in many ways, including numerically, geometrically, in length, area, volume, distribution, beauty, consciousness and creation itself. It has the ability to create infinite diversity on all levels of creation.

 

The golden ratio, phi, is essentially a relationship between two or more components of a whole; where the whole is divided into a small and large segment. Any whole can be divided into two segments. However, there is only one way that something can be divided so that the two parts are unified proportionally to each other in the same way as they are unified to the original undivided whole.

 

The simplest expression of this can be demonstrated by the division of a line (c), into a small (a) and a large (b) segment, producing three unequal parts (small segment, large segment and original whole line), all of which are unified through proportional similarity.

 

 

 

Mathematically, these ratios are such that the longer segment is 1.618034... times the length of the shorter segment (if the shorter segment equals 1.00), while the shorter is 0.618034… times the length of the whole line; and the whole line is 2.618034… (phi squared) times the length of the larger segment.

 

(N.B. The three dots after the numbers indicate an unending ratio, meaning the numbers stream off to infinity and are usually rounded off to three decimal places).



These are remarkable numbers. Not only are the figures after the decimal point identical in both, but each is the reciprocal of the other (that is, the number 1 divided by either yields the other). The relationship of the small segment to the large segment is the same proportional relationship that exists between the large segment and the whole line itself.



No other division produces this result. This unique golden proportional divided, yet unified quality is a universal principle that occurs on all levels of creation. The golden ratio arrangement is found throughout nature, ranging across a large variety of minerals, vegetables and animals… to the human form itself.


N.B. When the phi ratios are indicated in the following examples, it is understood that they are approximations and averages; that there are variances and deviations. In comparison to classical geometry, which affords precise measurement and form; organic geometry rests not on mathematical precision, but rather on identifying the underlying geometric process that the form is based upon.

 

 

 

In the average human hand, the length of the bone segments in the fingers of a hand measure in the following way. If the length of the smallest segment of a finger (any finger) is given the value of one unit of measurement, the length of the second segment of that finger will measure approximately 1.618 times longer than that; the third segment approximately 1.618 times longer than the second; and the fourth segment in the palm 1.618 times longer than that

Not only does the human form, on average, measure in this way, but the bone structures of all creatures are similarly based on the golden ratio. From microbes to the largest creatures upon the planet, phi is the prevalent ratio that carries through all species.

 

 

 

 

 

The very program of life itself—the DNA molecule—contains the golden ratio. One revolution of the double helix measures 34 angstroms while the width is 21 angstroms. The ratio 34/21 reflects phi 34 divided by 21 equals 1.619… a close approximation of phi’s 1.618.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

A cross-sectional view of the DNA shows a double pentagon (decagon), which is itself an embodiment of the golden ratio (as demonstrated further on).

 

 

 

 


 

 

 

 

The orbits of certain planets are phi related: the distance from Mercury to Venus is approximately 1.618 times the distance from the Sun to Mercury. The distance from Earth to Mars is approximately 1.618 times the distance from Venus to Earth.

 

The orbital relationships between certain planets are also golden proportional. For example, the relationship between Jupiter and Saturn is such that over a sixty year period Jupiter makes five revolutions around the Sun. By marking the position of Saturn at the end of each of Jupiter’s orbital cycles, a golden-proportioned pentagon and pentagram are traced out in space.

 

 

The Fibonacci Series

 

In the 12th century, Leonardo Fibonacci discovered a mathematical series that is found throughout nature. Starting with 1, each new number in the series is simply the sum of the two before it.

 

1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, 89, 144, 233, 377, 610, 987…

 

The series is generated by adding each set of numbers to make the next number. However, if instead of adding the numbers together, they are divided, an interesting phenomenon occurs:

 

 

 

 

 

As the series moves into the higher ranges the numbers converge on phi. After the 40th number in the series, the ratio is accurate to 15 decimal places: 1.618033988749895 . . .

 

The Fibonacci series is frequently found in nature in various modalities such as the leaf arrangements in plants, the pattern of florets in flowers, the logarithmic spirals of shells, the bracts of pinecones.

 

The golden angle provides the ideal positioning of leaf distribution around a stem (phyllotaxis). It is based on an angle of approximately 222.5 degrees rotated from one leaf to the next, which provides the maximum space for sunlight and rainfall for all the leaves.

 

It is called the golden angle because it divides the 360 degrees circle into a phi ratio: 222.5/360 = 0.618055… and 360/222.5 = 1.617977…

 

One of the most prominent forms through which the golden ratio expresses itself is the golden spiral, where the arc of the spiral is determined by phi. The scale can range from microscopic to super-galactic, but the arc remains constant at every stage of progression and level of existence. Not all spirals in nature are golden proportioned, but the golden spiral is prominently featured.

 

The golden spiral can be found in the tiniest sub-atomic particles of the microcosm to spiral galaxies of the macrocosm. At the center of a daisy, golden spirals unfold in clockwise and counter-clockwise directions – the number of the spirals determined by Fibonacci numbers. Swarms of insects, schools of fish and flocks of birds regroup into golden spirals after scattering from a disturbance. The golden ratio is present in the spiral of a fly approaching an object, or a falcon circling its prey.

 

 

 

 

One of the most exquisite examples of the golden ratio in nature is the chambered nautilus shell. The nautilus begins its journey of evolution constructing a shell to protect itself from the outside elements. As it continues to grow, it builds another chamber at the shell mouth bigger than the one before it, and when it moves into this larger area it seals the old chamber off behind it. It continues this process of building larger and larger chambers along a logarithmic spiral, always closing off the previous chamber to increase buoyancy.

 

 

The effect is remarkable. The linear spiral that the chambers are constructed along is a golden proportioned spiral; and three-dimensionally the space of each successive chamber (starting a few out from the center) has approximately 1.618 times more volume than the chamber preceding it.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Golden Rectangle

 

The golden rectangle, expounded by the ancient Egyptians and Greeks, has the property that when a square is removed (square f in left diagram below) a smaller rectangle of the same shape remains. Then a smaller square can be removed (e), and so on with similar results. The squares are all in phi relationship. They can also generate a phi spiral by linking the quadrants (quarter circles) of each square. Each quadrant is 1.618 times longer than the one preceding it.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The golden rectangle featured in a famous experiment by Gustav Fechner in 1876 in a survey asking people to choose from a set of ten shapes, ranging from a square to a double square. There was a marked preference for choosing the golden rectangle. He conducted further research by measuring the proportions of hundreds of windows and doors and found that a lot of them approximated the golden ratio.

El numero 306 esta interrelacionado con el numero de oro en el contexto a que el seno de 306=PHI/2=1.618033../2 e incluso tambien esta interrelacionado con el 666 ya que 360+306=666. Algo curioso es que en el calendario LUNI-SOLAR HEBREO desde el primero de Nissan o primer mes hasta el once del onceavo mes, osea el famoso once once, tambien tenemos 306 dias y es en el periodo que concluyen los cuarenta dias despues de que se clave el arca en el MONTE DE ARARAT, osea CUARENTA DIAS DESDE EL PRIMERO DEL DECIMO MES SEGUN GENESIS 8. Estamos considerando que los meses son LUNARES Y NO EXACTAMENTE DE 30 DIAS como comentan muchos teologos. Although perhaps not immediately obvious, phi and the golden section also appear in the Bible.  Also see the Theology page.

The Ark of the Covenant is a Golden Rectangle

In Exodus 25:10, God commands Moses to build the Ark of the Covenant, in which to hold His Covenant with the Israelites, the Ten Commandments, saying,

Ark of the Covenant is based on Fibonacci numbers, which converge on phi, the golden ratio

“Have them make a chest of acacia wood-
two and a half cubits long,
a cubit and a half wide,
and a cubit and a half high.”

The ratio of 2.5 to 1.5 is 1.666…, which is as close to phi (1.618 …) as you can come with such simple numbers and is certainly not visibly different to the eye. The Ark of the Covenant is thus constructed using the Golden Section, or Divine Proportion. This ratio is also the same as 5 to 3, numbers from the Fibonacci series.

In Exodus 27:1-2, we find that the altar God commands Moses to build is based on a variation of the same 5 by 3 theme:

“Build an altar of acacia wood, three cubits high; it is to be square, five cubits long and five cubits wide.”

Note: A cubit is the measure of the forearm below the elbow.

Noah’s Ark uses a Golden Rectangle

In Genesis 6:15, God commands Noah to build an ark saying,

“And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits.”

Thus the end of the ark, at 50 by 30 cubits, is also in the ratio of 5 to 3, or 1.666…, again a close approximation of phi not visibly different to the naked eye. Noah’s ark was built in the same proportion as ten arks of the covenant placed side by side.

The Number 666 is related to Phi

Revelation 13:18 says the following:

“This calls for wisdom. If anyone has insight, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is a man’s number. His number is 666.”

This beast, regarded by some as the Anti-Christ described by John, is thus related to the number 666, one of the greatest mysteries of the Bible.Curiously enough, if you take the sine of 666º, you get -0.80901699, which is one-half of negative phi, or perhaps what one might call the “anti-phi.”  You can also get -0.80901699 by taking the cosine of 216º, and 216 is 6 x 6 x 6.

The trigonometric relationship of sine 666º to phi is based on an isosceles triangle with a base of phi and sides of 1.  When this triangle is enclosed in a circle with a radius of 1, we see that the lower line, which has an angle of 306º on the first rotation and 666º on the second rotation, has a sine equal to one-half negative phi.

In this we see the unity of phi divided into positive and negative, analogous perhaps to light and darkness or good and evil.  Could this “sine” be a “sign” as well?

In addition, 666 degrees is 54 degrees short of the complete second circle and when dividing the 360 degrees of a circle by 54 degrees you get 6.66… The other side of a 54 degree angle in a right angle is 36 degrees and 36 divided by 54 is .666.

Phi appears throughout creation, and in every physical proportion of the human body.  In that sense it is the number of mankind, as the mysterious passage of Revelationperhaps reveals.

The colors of the Tabernacle are based on a phi relationship

The PhiBar program produces the colors that the Bible says God gave to Moses for the construction of the Tabernacle.

As it says in Exodus 26:1, “Make the tabernacle with ten curtains of finely twisted linen and blue, purple and scarlet yarn, with cherubim worked into them by a skilled craftsman.”

Set the primary color of the PhiBar program to blue, the secondary color of the PhiBar to purple and it reveals the Phi color to be scarlet.

This reference to the combination blue, purple and scarlet in the construction of the tabernacle appears 24 times in Exodus 25 through 39, describing the colors to be used in the curtains, waistbands, breastpieces, sashes and garments.

and it's supposed to be in the middle of a period of relative stability.
This activity is now getting higher
and calculations suggest it'll reach its peak in 2012 and 2013.
A report funded by NASA and issued by the US National Academy of Sciences (NAS)
predicts that a solar storm will hit the earth
which will be 30% greater than anything before.
There has been global warming over the past decades
but it is also related to sunspot activity on the sun,
not just carbon dioxide emissions.

Synchronisation with the Galactic Center
The Galactic Center contains the next unknown super-massive black hole
and shows up unusual astrophysical phenomena.
According to some astronomers, our solar system will intersect
with the Galactic Equator on December 21, 2012,
something that only happens about every 26,000 years.
This alignment with the center of the galaxy allows for maximum mass
and therefore maximum gravity.
The Galactic Center lies in the constellation of Sagittarius and
is hidden behind the dark clouds of dust of interstellar matter.

taking the constant Phi (1.6180339), the so called Golden Mean or
the Fibonacci sequence, and applying it to solar activity and planetary orbits,
found that everything seemed to spiral in on itself on December 21st, 2012
implying a time of implosion or point of bifurcation.

The Arks

 

In the 3x3 Magic Square of Saturn featuring the first nine numbers, the constant is 15, the sum of all the numbers of the square is 45. [The letters in the name Adam total to 45.] In the 6x6 Magic Square of the Sun, the magic costant is 111, and the sum of all the numbers of the square is 666.

Chapter 6 of Genesis deals with the description of the dimensions for Noah's Ark. (Bible dimensions are given in the form of length, breadth and height.) For the ark the length is given as 300 cubits, the breadth as 50 cubits and the height as 30 cubits (Gen 6:15). The volume is 300x50x30 or 45 with a bunch of zeros. The area is 300x50 or 15.000. The perimeter is 300+300+50+50 or 7.00. In Genesis 7:20 we read that the water rose 15 cubits, and in 7:24 we see that the water prevailed for 150 days. The periods between the release of birds was seven days each time. ("And he stayed yet other seven days; and again he sent forth the dove out of the ark.")

 

The ratio of the length to the breadth is 6:1 and the length to the height 10:1. Note that 10 is the earth's number and 6 is the sun's number. Note also that obelisks were built with a 1:10 ratio of base to height, and remember that upon raising the pillar stone in Genesis 1:28, Jacob says 'of all you give to me I will give one tenth to thee'. The sum of the first nine numbers is 45, and the sum of the first ten numbers is 55. The Washington Monument is 55.5 at the base x 555.5 feet tall. See Hebrews 7:2, where we read, "For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him; To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all".

Multiplying both sides of 6:1 by six gives us 360:60. We treat this as a rectangle spread round the globe 60 degrees wide. While the sun moves from 23 degrees north to 23 degrees south of the equator, the moon moves 5 degrees beyond the sun (to 28 degrees) and Mercury, the most eccentric of the planets, moves 7 degrees beyond the sun's extreme position (30+ degrees). A rectangle 6:1 describes the boundary of the visible planets on the globe. The outside dimension represents the range of Mercury, while the inside dimension represents the range of the sun.

 

The sun's 23.5 degree limit forms a border inside the rectangle. Remember that 30 degrees north and south is where a hexagram inscribed in a circle would touch the sides of that. That is the reason that a hexagram is used to depict the planets in the rose cross emblem. Note Saturn is at the top of this image. Saturn is the last sphere that the soul inhabits on its way back to the stars, and Saturn 'rules' Capricorn; also the sun is said to die in Capricorn, so it has been deemed the Gate of Death. The moon, being the last sphere the soul encounters before birth and being the ruler of Cancer, Cancer has been named the Gate of Birth (for this astronomical era).

 

"And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks; And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, And he had in his right hand seven stars, and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength." Noah carries seven passengers with him in the ark. Below we see an Egyptian illustration of that story.

In Exodus 25, the Ark of the Covenant is described as 2.5 cubits in length, 1.5 in breadth and in height. Doubling these numbers gives us 5x3x3 which is 45. The end of the ark was a square, while the top and sides were in the 3:5 proportion. Looking again at Noah's Ark we see that the ratio of its breadth to height is also 3:5. The side of the doubled Ark of the Covenant is the end of Noah's Ark, and the ark would be made of ten of these 3x3x5 blocks. In Gen 28:22 Jacob says 'of all that thou give unto me, I will give the tenth unto thee'.

 

The diagonal of the 3x5 rectangle produces a 31 degree angle. That is, a 3x5 rectangle inscribed in a circle touches that circle at 31 degrees from the equator, the point that Mercury ranges to. This is just one hemisphere's view. The outside dimension represents Mercury path, and the inner dimension the sun's path contained therein. The Shekinah (Glory of God) that appeared over the Ark and lit the room of the Most Holy Place has it’s parallel in the sun, which He created for His glory. You can see the notion of the sun's bounded way depicted by the staves.

 

Note that the dimensions given for the ark were 300:50:30. If we multiply these by 6/5 we get 360:60:36, meaning that our map rectangle is conceptually 36 tall? Thirty six is six squared, and the sum of the first thirty six numbers is 666. In the Magic Square of the Sun the constant is 111, three ones. The sum of all the numbers of the square is 666. (The sum of the first 11 numbers is 66, and Pi equals Phi squared x 6/5.)

 

The magic square of the sun (36 cells) can be generated by quartering the nine cells in the magic square of Saturn. (Surveying in the US is done using 6 mile by six mile grids of one square mile sections.) Dividing each of Saturn's nine cells nine times (fractal) gives us the magic square of the moon with 81 cells. Notice that these are the three down the center of the planet hex emblem above. Mercury's square quarter's the squares in the Jupiter square, and the earth's square of ten, quarters the squares in the Mars square (5). 4 and 5 are different takes on life, just as Jupiter and Mars are represent different governing styles. Jupiter rules from a throne with a shephard's crook, while Mars rules from a war chariot with a flail in his hand.

Jupiter is related to Mercury numerically as Mars is related to the earth, and Saturn, the sun and moon all relate to one another. 5 x 5 is an altar number in the Bible. As a matter of fact, one altar was 5x5x3 tall meaning it had a 3x5 profile. In terms of fractions we can say that the square of Saturn represents 1:3, and Jupiter 1:4, etc. All of these but two can be derived without much trouble from the square using a straight edge, as was shown before.

Looking at the epic poem about Gilgamesh, we see that the 'ark' mentioned is cubic and measures 60x60x60 fathoms. The footprint is square and the area of that is numerically 1/6th that of the Noah's ark. 60x60x60 is actually a cubic expression of the 6x6 sun square. The flood in the Bible ends a 600 year period. "And it came to pass in the six hundredth and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried up from off the earth: and Noah removed the covering of the ark, and looked, and, behold, the face of the ground was dry." Six hundred shekels of gold is the price that David paid for the threshingfloor on which the Temple eas to be built. "So David gave to Ornan for the place six hundred shekels of gold by weight."

This ark takes 7 days to build, and the flood lasts seven days. "I laid out the shape of her sides and joined her together. I provided her with six decks, dividing her (thus) into seven parts. Her floor plan I divided into nine parts." A square divided into nine parts is the square of Saturn. "When the seventh day arrived, The flood (-carrying) south-storm subsided in the battle, Which it had fought like an army."

 

"And the house which king Solomon built for the Lord, the length thereof was threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof twenty cubits, and the height thereof thirty cubits. And the porch before the temple of the house, twenty cubits was the length thereof, according to the breadth of the house; and ten cubits was the breadth thereof before the house." The house was 60x20 and 30 tall. The floor area would be 12.00 like the months, and the volume would be 60x20x30 or 36.000.
