諾定咸森林 in 1865, 諾定咸森林 is a football club that plays in the English Football League. 諾定咸森林 are one of the oldest clubs in the UK and have won the FA Cup four times. The most successful period for 諾定咸森林 was under manager Brian Clough between 1975 and 1993, during which they won their only league title, two consecutive European Cups and four 諾定咸森林.
During the late 20th century, Forest have seen their style of play change a great deal. They are now a more direct and tactical team, with the emphasis on possession rather than intricacy. They are not the most slick passing side, but they do have a strong sense of possession and are very good at playing out from the back.
The Club’s History
The club was founded in 1865, when a group of shinty players met at the Clinton Arms on Shakespeare Street and formed an association football club. The club is nicknamed ‘The Reds’ because of the red tasselled caps that were bought by the club in its early days.
Their first team was coached by Harry Hallam, who led the club to their first FA Cup victory in 1898. A number of managers have been in charge during the club’s history, including former England international Billy Walker and Irishman Johnny Carey.
When Clough took over in 1975, the club was struggling to compete in the lower divisions of the Football League. But he soon put them on the map. He brought in his own style of play and the Forest side he managed went on to win seven domestic cup finals.
In 1977, Forest won the Division One title and were promoted to the top flight of the Football League. The following season, they won the First Division and League Cup in the same year and also won the European Cup.
During this period, they also won the FA Cup in 1979 and 1980. The team included players such as Teddy Sheringham, David Needham and Steve Birtles.
After the departure of Taylor in 1982, Clough stayed on as a manager until 1992, winning the League Cup in 1988 and 1990. In the process, Forest beat Liverpool in their first ever game played in the modern Premier League and a victory over Chelsea in 1990 was the first time an English club had won a European match on live television.
On 15 December 2012, after a 0-0 draw against Brighton, Forest sat in ninth position with 33 points, just three points off the play-off positions. After that, they lost their way with some poor results.
They had a good run of form during the next season, but with some poor away performances they dropped out of the top three and Carlisle and Doncaster were able to overtake them on the last day of the season.
The club have a strong record in the Conference, but their form in the Championship has been inconsistent. However, since the arrival of new manager Stuart Pearce in September 2021, they have risen to the top of the table and are one of the favourites for promotion in the 2021/22 season.
