The Son of Man in the Gospels can be traced to the constellation Orion which represents Jesus' Spirit. Background for this report can be found in Gospel Zodiac, Jesus' Ghost and Pillar of Cloud. They explain how Jesus allegorizes the sun, the nature of Jesus' Spirit and the role the Milky Way plays in apocalyptic prophecies. This report explains the astrological significance of Son of Man.
Introduction
One of the imperatives in Christian mythology is the belief that the world as we know it will end someday. God will overthrow the forces of evil and all who side with them, and only those who repent and follow Jesus' teachings will be allowed to enter the new Kingdom of God. Jesus and Paul mention it often and the Book of Revelation is devoted to it.
Many passages attest that Jesus expected the end of the world to come in his time, not thousands of years later. Throughout the Gospels, Jesus refers to some mysterious Son of man, a cosmic judge sent from heaven who would destroy whoever opposes God and reward those who are faithful.
Who this Son of man? The popular claim has it that Jesus was referring to himself in the third person. It's plausible because many passages fit the course of Jesus' ministry. What is suspicious about this rationale is that Jesus appears to be describing someone else.
38For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of man also be ashamed, when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels."
1And he said to them, "Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see that the kingdom of God has come with power." (Mark 8:38-9:1)
I submit that Christian reasoning is entirely wrong. When Christians read the predictions of the end of the world, they are waiting for events to unfold on earth. Even after 2,000 years of false alarms, they have not lost patience, and I don't know if they will ever admit that maybe they are misreading the New Testament.
Such a calamity cannot happen as the Bible predicts. Something on that scale would take an event like a large meteor to hit earth. In such a case, a meteor would not care who is faithful to Jesus. If there was a nuclear war, bombs would be guided by human stupidity, not divine intelligence. If any other catastrophe happens on that scale, earth would not be a very pleasant place for the survivors. Whatever the cause of mass destruction, faith will not protect anybody. Even worse, if the entire world was destroyed, as devout Christians believe, there would be no survivors.
What confuses modern readers is the way the Bible's writers coded their belief in the power of the stars as if they affected life on earth. The matter before us is to decipher their writings for what they meant to ancients, not to what modern believers want to believe.
For this reason, we will examine the Bible from an astronomical point of view. It was a time when ancients perceived the stars in heaven as patterns to be interpreted as God's divine plan for life on earth. The sun was especially important to them because they understood that life on earth depended on it.
There are three clues which clarify what they were writing about. The first describes the Son of man as the constellation Orion. The second relates the yearly sun cycle to the end of the world. The third tracks Orion with the sun cycle. There can be no other conclusion except that the idea of a supernatural God was conceived as a ruse to mislead faithful Christians.
The Son of man
Three passages define the Son of man in physical form.
The first appears in the apocalyptic writings of the Book of Daniel, where Daniel describes the Son of man as riding on the clouds of heaven to the "Ancient of days" to give him everlasting dominion over the new kingdom of heaven.
13I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him.
14And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed. (Dan. 7:13-14)
Revelation's description of the Son of man fits the pattern of stars in the constellation Orion. The star on his right shoulder is bright red (upper left star). The three stars at his waste were later seen as the three wise men who announced the birth of Jesus.
12Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking to me, and on turning I saw seven golden lampstands,
13and in the midst of the lampstands one like a son of man, clothed with a long robe and with a golden girdle round his breast;
14his head and his hair were white as white wool, white as snow; his eyes were like a flame of fire,
15his feet were like burnished bronze, refined as in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of many waters;
16in his right hand he held seven stars, from his mouth issued a sharp two-edged sword, and his face was like the sun shining in full strength. (Rev. 1:12-20)
The Son of man has a cluster of stars in the background that look like the clouds upon which the Son of man rides. Astronomical maps show the Milky Way behind the constellation Orion. From earth, they look like clouds.
14And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud one sat like unto the Son of man, having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle.

Orion as seen in human form. His right hand could be holding a sickle or a club. His left hand could be holding an animal skin, a shield or a bow. The Milky Way is behind him. The arc above him represents the sun's path. The line going through his waste is the celestial equator which runs parallel to earth's equator.
Orion's legacy
After the Big Dipper, Orion is perhaps the next most celebrated constellation in the winter sky. Mythologies about Orion probably originated from the Egyptians thousands of years ago and extended to the Greeks at the turn of the first century. It is a very important constellation to astral religions and easy to recognize.
To the ancient Egyptians, Orion was Osiris the God of Light. Set was Orisis' brother and the God of Darkness. According to legend, Orisis was murdered by his evil brother Set, who tore his body into pieces and scattered the fragments. Isis, Osiris' wife, managed to put him back together except for his phallus, which had been swallowed by a fish. She made an artificial phallus and breathed into his body to restore his soul. Thereafter, he rose to the sky.
In one period, Orion represented the Egyptian god of the dead and the first king of Egypt. After death, the pharaoh was thought to mystically inseminate the stars to ensure that, through Osiris, Horus the sun god would be reborn as his successor.
In one Greek myth, Orion was the son of Neptune and the nymph Euryale. He was of gigantic size, strength and beauty. He was so tall that he could walk through deep water without wetting his head. His hubris invoked Gaia, the Goddess of the Earth to send a scorpion to kill him. His fall to earth can be seen when the stars of Orion sink defeated below the western horizon and the stars of Scorpion are just rising in the east.
The next night he rises again, saved by Ophiuchus, the Doctor of Antiquity who gave him an antidote for the scorpions poison. This can be seen when the Scorpion sets in the southwest with Ophiuchus standing over him as a symbol of the antidote. Later, when Ophiuchus sets in the west, Orion comes up from the east, fully recovered.
In these myths alone we see fragments of Christian mythology. Gods die and are restored to life. They are given a soul by being breathed into and they fall to earth as Adam did. The scorpion brings death as Judas did to Jesus. There is the eternal conflict between light and dark. (See Light verses Dark)
The timing of Orion's cycle fits with the birth of Jesus on December 25. It makes its first appearance in the east in mid December each year. And as the season progresses, Orion rises with the sun and sets in the west three days before it rises in the east again.
With the sun personified as Jesus, it is accurate to think of Orion as a constellation in synch with the sun's cycle. In a sense they are like conjoined twins who suffer the same fate. This is why the confusion about whether Jesus is referring to himself as the Son of Man in the third person or whether the Son of Man is some cosmic judge.
The sun cycle
In allegorical language, the sun goes through four seasonal cycles. It is born on December 25 when daylight hours start to increase. At about this same time Orion rises in the east with its three belt stars as the three wise men. As Orion rises, the star Sirius ascends above the horizon as the star of Bethlehem. Sirius is the brightest star in the sky.
The powers of darkness are still in power, but as the daylight hours increase, it is seen as overcoming the forces that try to stop it. In the Gospels, this is when Jesus is born and when his parents take him away to keep Herod from killing him.
At the spring equinox it has entered the gates of heaven when daylight hours start to emerge more powerful than the dark evil forces. Jesus' mission starts in the spring when he collects his disciples and builds a following.
At the summer solstice, when the sun is the highest in the sky, the sun is on its throne. In the following summer months, as the sun descends, it is still strong, but it is weakening as the dark forces start to make war against it. To show his strength, Jesus performs miracles and exorcises demons. At this time Orion is at the height of its ascent.
When the sun passes through the fall equinox, it enters the gates to hell. Night time hours start to lengthen and the dark forces are said to be fighting their way back to power. The sun continues to weaken until it dies for three days following December 21. This is when Jesus is betrayed by Judas and is taken to trial and executed. Allegorically, this is the end of the world.
On December 25, the sun is resurrected and the cycle repeats.
This cycle is not unique to Christianity; it plays out through the mythologies of resurrected gods. It was the age of fable when the constellations were assigned the names of gods. There was Hercules who died on his twelfth labor like Jesus. There is Jason and the Argonauts with their ship Argo, reminiscent of Noah's ark. The constellation Perseus holding the head of Medusa looks like David holding the head of Goliath. There are creation myths, supreme gods who mate with virgins, giants, serpents and a host of other characters like those in the Bible.
The Bible cannot be understood by those who are so blinded with faith that they keep their heads buried in the ground trying to make historical sense out of it. Look up to the sky. biblical Omens
In Mark chapter 13, there is an allegorical summary of the astronomical omens that lead to the end of the world. They start when the sun is at full power at its highest position on the horizon to when it descends to its death at the lowest position.
1. When the sun is at the summer solstice in Gemini, Jesus predicted that some day the temple will be destroyed. His disciples wanted to know what sign they should look for to know when this event will happen. In biblespeak, "sign" denotes astrological signs.
1And as he came out of the temple, one of his disciples said to him, "Look, Teacher, what wonderful stones and what wonderful buildings!"
2And Jesus said to him, "Do you see these great buildings? There will not be left here one stone upon another, that will not be thrown down."
3And as he sat on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked him privately,
4"Tell us, when will this be, and what will be the sign when these things are all to be accomplished?" (Mark 13:1-4)
2. After the sun passes the high point of the summer solstice it descends lower with each passing day. Allegorically, the sun is weakening because the dark forces of evil are said to waging war against it. The wars are just beginning.
The sun starts to descend in the house of Cancer. It is usually a time of hesitation, so Jesus warns what to expect and not to be alarmed.
7And when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed; this must take place, but the end is not yet.
8For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there will be earthquakes in various places, there will be famines; this is but the beginning of the birth-pangs.
9"But take heed to yourselves; for they will deliver you up to councils; and you will be beaten in synagogues; and you will stand before governors and kings for my sake, to bear testimony before them. (Mark 13:7-8)
3. The wars between light and dark intensify as the days get shorter. The sun is still strong, but the forces of evil are gaining power.
The house of Leo brings strength from the new harvest. So Jesus says to be strong against adversity and you will be saved.
11And when they bring you to trial and deliver you up, do not be anxious beforehand what you are to say; but say whatever is given you in that hour, for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit.
12And brother will deliver up brother to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death;
13and you will be hated by all for my name's sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved.
14"But when you see the desolating sacrilege set up where it ought not to be (let the reader understand), then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains; (Mark 13:11-14)
4. Virgo is the last house before the sun descends into hell-Virgo is described as a nursing mother. There is no turning back.
15let him who is on the housetop not go down, nor enter his house, to take anything away;
16and let him who is in the field not turn back to take his mantle.
17And alas for those who are with child and for those who give suck [Virgo] in those days! (Mark 13:15-17)
5. The sun has passed the fall equinox into Scorpio. The days are getting progressively shorter than the nights. According to Jesus, if the days did not get shorter, no one could be saved, so God shortened the days. Pray that the sign doesn't happen in winter because it is the worst of times. If the days are still getting shorter and someone says the Christ has come, do not believe them. It is not the right time.
18Pray that it may not happen in winter.
19For in those days there will be such tribulation as has not been from the beginning of the creation which God created until now, and never will be.
20And if the Lord had not shortened the days, no human being would be saved; but for the sake of the elect, whom he chose, he shortened the days.
21And then if any one says to you, 'Look, here is the Christ!' or 'Look, there he is!' do not believe it.
22False Christs and false prophets will arise and show signs and wonders, to lead astray, if possible, the elect.
23But take heed; I have told you all things beforehand. (Mark 13:18-23)
6. The sun is in Sagittarius as the sun descends to its lowest point on the horizon. On the darkest days of the winter when the moon does not give light, the Son of man will come in clouds. The Son of man in clouds can be seen in the picture above. Below, the next frame shows the son of men descending on December 21.
24"But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light,
25and the stars will be falling from heaven, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken.
26And then they will see the Son of man coming in clouds with great power and glory.
27And then he will send out the angels, and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of heaven. (Mark 13:24-27)
7. You will know he is near the gates to heaven (the spring equinox) when fig trees start to grow leaves.
28"From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts forth its leaves, you know that summer is near.
29So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that he is near, at the very gates. (Mark 13:28-29)
8. This generation will see these things take place. -He means his generation.
30Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away before all these things take place.
31Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. (Mark 13:30-31)
In the first century on December 21 at midnight, when the sun is darkened and the moon does not give up its light, the Son of man can be seen descending to earth. A month later it disappears from view.
Orion ascends in the east three days after its disappearance in the west.

 En el Judaísmo tradicional y en la literatura Rabínica, el monte de los Olivos es llamado la montaña del Mesías (Mashíaj). Después de que el Mesías (Mashíaj) judío Yeshúa/Jesús resucitara, Él dejó la tierra desde el Monte de los Olivos, para volver otra vez al Cielo (Olam Habá) para sentarse a la diestra del Padre. En Hechos 1:9-12 está escrito:

Cuando el Mesías (Mashíaj) judío Yeshúa/Jesús vuelva en Su segunda venida como el Mesías Rey (Mashíaj ben David), Él pondrá Sus pies sobre el monte de los Olivos. En Zacarías 14:3-4, 9 está escrito:

Otro nombre que se le da a la Fiesta de Sukkot (Tabernáculos) es la Fiesta de las Naciones. Sukkot (Tabernáculos) va a ser celebrada por todas las naciones de la tierra durante la era Mesiánica, el Milenio (Zacarías 14:16-18). La celebración de Sukkot por parte de las naciones en el futuro está íntimamente relacionado con el papel y la misión que tiene Israel. El plan de Di-s para el pueblo judío data desde el pacto que El hizo con Abraham (Avraham). En este pacto, Dios prometió que, como está escrito en Génesis (Bereishit) 12:3: "...serán benditas en ti todas las familias de la tierra". De Abraham (Avraham), Di-s levantaría un pueblo, Israel, para llevar bendición a las naciones. Esa promesa fue cumplida en Yeshua, el Mesías, como está escrito en Gálatas 3:8,14,16,29. Israel: Una Luz (Testigo) a las Naciones
Israel fue escogida por Di-s para ser la luz del mundo (Deuteronomio [Devarim> 7:6-8). Di-s dio a Israel la misión de servirle. La razón es muy simple. Di-s quería escoger a un pueblo entre las naciones a través del cual pudiera obrar de tal forma que mostrara Su gloria al mundo. Por esta razón El eligió a Israel y esta es la misión que debe tener todo creyente en el Mesías. Al hacerlo, Di-s puede revelar Su plan de redención a todo el mundo, para que todo el mundo pueda ver que Di-s y Su Mesías Yeshua son luz (Juan 1:1-4; 1 Juan 1:5). Israel fue elegido para ser testigo (luz) al mundo. Esto puede verse en las siguientes Escrituras: Isaías (Yeshayahu) 43:1,10,12,14; Lucas 24:44-49; y Hechos 1:1-8. La misión de Israel es proclamar al mundo que el Di-s de Israel es el único verdadero Di-s y que nadie más nos puede salvar (Hechos 4:10,12).
Israel, como nación, falló en su misión de ser testigo al mundo. No sólo el pueblo desobedeció los mandamientos de Di-s, sino que tampoco llevaron la luz al mundo. Al contrario, el mundo, en general, ha llegado al colmo de odiar al pueblo judío.
Pero en lo individual, aquellos que creyeron y siguieron a Di-s, los judíos fueron fieles a su cometido. Sólo debemos ver la fe de Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moisés, los profetas y los reyes, tales como David y Salomón. De hecho, si estudiamos la Biblia, veremos que ésta fue escrita por judíos fieles siervos de Di-s, guiados por el Espíritu Santo (Ruach HaKodesh). Sobre todo, la luz más brillante y el mayor testimonio que el mundo jamás recibió era judío. Su nombre es Yeshua, el Mesías. Ya que Israel dio luz al Mesías, ellos, en esencia, han servido de bendición para todas las naciones, a través de El (Génesis [Bereishit> 12:3; Gálatas 3:8,14,16,29).
Aunque Israel falló como nación en su misión, este error no es permanente. Es un lapsus temporal de su destino de llegar a ser bendición para todas las naciones, lo cual llegará a realizarse en el reinado de mil años del Mesías, conocido como el Reino Mesiánico o Era Mesiánica. During the latter part of April, all of May and June, and about half of July, Orion’s influence is significant by virtue of either its departure or its total absence from the sky. At present Rigel is approximately 15 degrees above the western horizon on April 20 at 8:00 p.m., an hour after sunset, and by 9:15 in the evening it is just touching the horizon. Orion is last seen on the western horizon in early May, and by mid-May it is blotted out altogether in the sun’s glare, which is called its heliacal setting. After that it will not reappear until about July 21st, its heliacal rising in the east. However, some nine centuries earlier when the first villages on the Hopi Mesas of Arizona were being settled, Rigel touched the western horizon on April 20 at 8:00 p.m., again an hour after sunset, and by early May achieved its heliacal setting. At this same time (circa A.D. 1100) it was not seen again until about the second week of July, its heliacal rising coinciding with the annual arrival of the monsoons. Much like the flooding of the Nile in Egypt, monsoon rain fulfills the agricultural and ceremonial cycle.
But what is the meaning of all these star positions? If the Anasazi (ancestral Hopi) and modern Hopi planting schedules coincide, then sweet corn, whose symbolic direction is designated as Below, was planted in late April when Orion was departing for his two-month sojourn in the Underworld. The importance of sweet corn is reflected primarily in its customary harvest at the Niman Ceremony in July and its use as a gift from the Hemis kachinas (masked intercessory spirits) to the children. The remainder of the corn was planted from late May until the summer solstice when Orion was inhabiting his subterranean abode.
His influence possibly causes the spirits of the corn to rise from the Underworld and enter into the sown seeds, acting as a catalyst for germination. Orion is planted in the Underworld at the same time as all the various types of corn, thereby assuring their germination and quickening growth during the lengthening days of the year. During this part of the seasonal cycle a minor agricultural rite of planting is performed in the fields. This is actually a sort of native Passion play involving Masau’u, the Hopi god of earth, death and the Underworld. (He is the counterpart of the Egyptian god Osiris.) “...Masau’u strikes down his challengers and strips them of their clothes, until in the end he also falls down as if dead. Then he rises to accept prayers and gifts. On one level this is a mime depicting the life cycle of the corn plant; the ear is stripped from the plant, the cob is stripped of its seeds, and some of these are buried... but he, as a corn symbol, rises again and accepts the thanks of the people.” (Hamilton A. Tyler, Pueblo Gods and Myths (Norman, Oklahoma: University of Oklahoma Press, 1964), p. 33.) Thus, Masau’u/Orion functions as not only as symbol of resurrection imitated by farmers assisting the forces of nature, but also as a manifestation of the corn itself, which is planted in the spring and returns after a few months to provide the people with its bounty.
Domesticated in Mesoamerica circa 5000 B.C., corn is undoubtedly the most sacred and ritualized of all Hopi foodstuffs. The symbolic color directions for each type of corn are as follows: yellow for Northwest, blue for Southwest, red for Southeast, and white for Northeast. This encompasses the terrestrial (horizontal) plane of Masau’u’s domain. In addition, black (or purple) corn, known as kokoma, or Masau’u’s corn, symbolically representing the direction of Above, is planted in May for the fall harvest. When Masau’u’s dark corn of the zenith is brought down and placed in the dark earth together with Orion, then no major ceremonies can be held. The resumption of the ceremonial cycle will have to wait until Orion once again rises in the east just before dawn in July, when the ripening sweet corn reaches its full maturity and the life-giving monsoon rains begin.
We have seen here a direct relationship between the perceived absence of Orion and the vernal sowing of corn. The placement of seeds in the soil at the very time Orion in the chthonic realm is urging the life force forward and upward into the light must have seemed to the ancient Hopi as a cosmically ordained synergy. Fettered by the paradigms of science, we moderns rarely have the opportunity to witness a synchronistic magic of such magnitude.

Orion is known as the 'mighty hunter'. He fell in love with Merope on the island of Chios and won her hand by ridding the island of wild animals, but Oenopion, her father, refused to grant her to him in marriage. Orion got drunk and assaulted Merope. In revenge Oenopion blinded Orion. Orion went to the east, where he regained his eyesight and attracted the amorous attention of Eos, the goddess of the dawn. When he returned to take vengeance on Oenopion, Orion was unable to find his foe, so he joined the followers of Artemis. Apollo convinced Gaia to send a giant scorpion after Orion, and he tricked Artemis into killing him because he was afraid Artemis, his sister, would fall in love with him. In grief, Artemis placed Orion's image and that of the scorpion in the sky. Other accounts say Orion tried to rape Artemis while he was ridding Chios of wild animals for Oenopion; she then produced the scorpion, which stung him to death and both the scorpion and Orion were then placed in the sky. Still other versions say Orion chased the Pleiades, the seven daughters of Atlas and Pleione, and that they were all transformed into constellations, along with Sirius, Orion's hunting dog (Homer, Odyssey 5.121-124, 11.572-575; Apollodorus 1.4.3-5; Hyginus, Fabulae 195, Poetica Astronomica 2.21, 26, 33-34). The name Orion is from Greek ourios, 'urine'. The story goes that Hyrieus of Boeotia was granted a wish in reward for his hospitality to the gods Zeus (Jupiter), Poseidon (Neptune) and Hermes (Mercury), who were visitors in disguise. Hyrieus asked for a son. The gods responded by urinating on a bull's hide and burying it in the earth which produced a child nine months later. He was named Orion or Ourion (of ouria), urine, after this event.
The word urine is from Latin urina, comes from the Indo-European root *wé-r-, "water, liquid, milk". Related words are: urine, from Latin urina, urea, uracil (a component of RNA that carries hereditary information in cells. Chemically, it is a pyrimidine derivative), ureter (the long, narrow duct that conveys urine from the kidney to the urinary bladder or cloaca).
The Greek word for urine, ouron (or ourion), comes from the Indo-European root *wers-2 "To rain, drip." (Oldest form *a2wers-) Suffixed o-grade form *(a)wors-a-. ureter, urethra, uretic, -uria, uro-1, diuretic, enuresis, natriuresis, from Greek ouron, urine, whence verb ourein, to urinate, make water. Related to Sanskrit varsa- 'rain.' [In Pokorny 9. aw(e)- 78.]
The word Orion was also believed by Strabo to be related to the Greek word for mountain, oros, from where we get our word orogeny and orology, the study of mountains.
"Oreios (in Euboia) is situated at the foot of the mountain Telethrios in the Drymos ... perhaps, it was because the Ellopians who formerly inhabited it were mountaineers that the name Oreios ('Of the Mountain') was assigned to the city. It is also thought that Orion was so named because he was reared there." - Strabo, Geography 10.1.4 [1]
Fortis and Fortissimus, were Roman titles for Orion [Allen, Star Names] and these words are related to the Germanic word for mountain, berg, from the Indo-European root *bhergh-2 'High; with derivatives referring to hills and hill-forts'. Derivatives: barrow² (a large mound of earth above a prehistoric tomb, from Old English beorg, hill), iceberg, borough, burg, (these words from Old English burg, burh, byrig, fortified town), bourg, bourgeois, burgess, burglar, faubourg, (these words from Late Latin burgus, fortified place), borough, burgher, Burgundy, force, fort, fortalice, forte1, forte2, fortis, fortissimo, fortitude, fortress, comfort, effort, enforce, fortify, pianoforte, reinforce, (these words from Latin fortis, strong). Fortitude is a good word to fit the description Manilius gives in his astrological influences for Orion:
"Orion will fashion alert minds and agile bodies, souls prompt to respond to duty's call, and hearts which press on with unflagging energy in spite of every trial." [Manilius, Astronomica, p.305.]
For many animals urine is used to define territorial borders and any transgression can result in 'war'. The words 'war' and 'urine' might be ultimately related, and Orion was seen as a warrior. Pindar spelled the name; Oarion, Allen (below) says this was the usual ancient Greek term for Orion; "the initial letter having taken the place of the ancient digamma, which, pronounced somewhat like the letter W, rendered the early word akin to our Warrior." Digamma is an old Greek letter pronounced w in English.
The Greek word for urine, ouron (or ourion), comes from the Indo-European root *wers-2 "To rain, drip" (see above). The English word 'war' comes from the Indo-European root *wers-1 "To confuse, mix up". Derivatives: war, guerrilla (from Spanish guerra, war), worse, worst (from Old English wyrsta, worst), wurst, liverwurst (from Old High German wurst, sausage < mixture). [Pokorny wers- 1169.]
A constellation can represent a number of things:
"Orion shines in the south, in front of the tracks of Taurus. It is named 'Orion' from urine (urina), that is, from a flood of waters, for it rises in the winter season, and troubles the sea and the land with waters and storms ['pissing rain'?]. Latin speakers call this constellation the Jugula [translator's note: compare iugulum, 'throat,' with a figurative sense 'slaughter'] because it is armed, as if it has a sword, and is terrible and very brilliant in the light of its stars. If all of its stars are shining, then calm weather is forecast, but if their sharpness is blunted, then a storm is understood to loom.” [The Etymologies of Isidore of Seville, 7th century AD, p.105.]

Allen [Star Names, below] says "Plautus, Varro, and others called the constellation of Orion Jugula and Jugulae, the Joined, referring to the umeri (shoulder), the two bright stars in the shoulders, as if connected by the jugulum, or collar-bone. Such, at least, is the generally received derivation, but Buttmann claimed it as from jugulare (the jugular vein), and hence the Slayer, a fitting title for the Warrior" [Allen, Star Names, p.306]. The jugulum is the cavity of the posterior part of the head to which the neck is annexed. The jugular vein is the large veins of the neck that drain blood from the head. Jugula comes from the Indo-European root *yeug- 'To join'. Derivatives: yoke, jug-, jugate, jugular, jugum, conjugate, subjugate, zygo-, zygote, jostle, joust, adjust, join, joint, conjugal, conjunct, yoga. [Pokorny 2. ieu- 508. Watkins]
These etymologies should make this 'Mighty Hunter', this 'Giant', the zygote; the product of the conjunction of the sperm and egg cells in conception. A zygote is the original cell that comes to creation and will survive in this state for four days before dividing into a blastiocyst. In the micro realm a zygote cell would appear gigantic compared to other cells.
According to Allen [Star Names] some think that the Belt of Orion stars, delta, epsilon, zeta, known to the Arabs as the Golden Nuts, first bore the name Jauzah, from another meaning of that word, — Walnut, and that title was later given to the whole figure of Orion. In early Arabia Orion was Al Jauzah. Walnuts (genus Juglans, note the similarity of Orion's title 'Jugula') from Latin juglans, 'walnut', is a contraction of 'Jovis glans'. Mythology describes a Golden Age when men lived on acorns the gods lived on walnuts thus the name Jovis glans or 'Jupiter's nut's. Jauzah also seems to be the term used for a black sheep with a white spot on the middle of the body.
Orion had a number of titles signifying the word 'giant': The Jews called Orion Gibbor, the Giant. "The Syrians knew Orion as Gabbara; the Arabians as Al Jabbar, both signifying 'the Giant', Gigas, giant, Greek title for Orion with Ptolemy, — and in Latin days occasionally Gigas; the Arabian word gradually being turned into Algebra (the prefix al- means 'the'), Algebaro, and, especially in poetry, Algebar, which Chilmead gave as Algibbar (Al Gibbar, 'the giant')". Our words giant and gigantic, and the word giga- (prefix meaning a billion) come from Latin gagas, Greek gigas. Orion is referred to as 'earthborn' because the gods Zeus, Hermes and Poseidon urinated into a bull's hide and buried it in the earth. In Greek mythology the gigantes were (according to the poet Hesiod) the children of Uranos and Gaea (the Heaven and the Earth). The prefix gi- of 'giant', is believed to come from Gaia, or Gaea, meaning earth, Gaea-antis.
Algebra, another Arabic title for Orion, that because of the sound similarity should relate to that branch of mathematics, algebra from Arabic al-jabr, from al-, the, + jabr, meaning to join broken bones, to set bones, [a joint (from *yeug-) is the location at which two or more bones make contact] from Semitic *gpr, and related to the name Gabriel; Gabriel, Jibril or Jibrail, 'Fortitudo Dei', 'force from God' said to Mary "And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus." -- Luke 1:31. "In that same time that she had thus given her assent to the angel, she conceived in her Jesus Christ" [2]. Conception took place while Gabriel was present; something involved in the creation of the zygote, perhaps the spirit, soul, or life force (or something else?)
Algebra from Arabic al-jabr, from al-, the, + jabr, meaning to join broken bones, to set bones. Orion is identified with Egyptian Osiris who was cut up into pieces by Set and his body was reassembled by Isis.
Sahu, Sah, was an ancient Egyptian title for Orion. Allen [Star Names] says that in Egypt, Orion in the great Ramesseum of Thebes about 3285 B.C. was known as Sahu. This twice appears in the Book of the Dead: "The shoulders of the constellation Sahu"; and: "I see the motion of the holy constellation Sahu". "The Ancient Egyptians, their soul - their being - were made up of many different parts. Not only was there the physical form, but there were eight immortal or semi-divine parts that survived death. Sahu - The incorruptible spiritual body of man that could dwell in the heavens, appearing from the physical body after the judgment of the dead was passed (if successful) with all of the mental and spiritual abilities of a living body" [3]. Budge, in his introductory treatise to the Book of the Dead, writes that the Egyptians conceived the sahu, or spiritual body... "That sublimated vesture, then, which seems to be the spiritual body in which the dead specifically rise, is the Sahu, though the next higher one, the Khu, is frequently mentioned in the experience" [4]. Massey says that the word 'Sahu' means 'to incorporate' [join]. "Then as a Sahu he is reincorporated in a spiritual body, and as a Khu he is invested with the robe of light and glory" [5]. Sahu = The phantom body, psychic identity of self boundaries [6].
"That sublimated vesture, then, which seems to be the spiritual body in which the dead specifically rise, is the Sahu" [Budge].
The god Sah, or Sahu, is personified in the constellation of Orion and his consort, Sopdet (or Greek name Sothis), is personified in the adjacent constellation, Canis Major, or its alpha star Sirius (the 'dog star'). These two constellations came to be viewed as manifestations of Osiris and Isis. In a fourth century B.C. papyrus, Isis asserts that she is Sothis, who will unswervingly follow Osiris in his manifestation as Orion in heaven [8]. The deceased king is said to enter the sky "In the name of the Dweller in Orion, with a season in the sky and a season on earth" [9]. Osiris was addressed as follows in one of the Isis chants:
There proceedeth from thee the strong Orion in heaven at evening, at the resting of every day!
Lo it is I (Isis), at the approach of the Sothis (Sirius) period, who doth watch for him (the child Osiris),
Nor will I leave off watching for him; for that which proceedeth from thee (the living Osiris) is revered.
An emanation from thee causeth life to gods and men, reptiles and animals, and they live by means thereof.
Come thou to us from thy chamber, in the day when thy soul begetteth emanations,--
The day when offerings upon offerings are made to thy spirit, which causeth the gods and men likewise to live.

Skorpios (Scorpius) was a giant scorpion sent by the earth-goddess Gaia to slay the giant Orion when he threatened to kill all the beasts of the earth. The Scorpion stung Orion on the heel (marked by the star Rigel, beta Orion) and killed him. These two opponents Orion and the Scorpion were placed amongst the stars as their namesake constellations, but are positioned on opposite sides of the sky, one sets as the other rises. The Scorpion rises as Orion starts to sink into the other side of the sky, and this was seen as Orion running away from the attacker, and still in fear of him.
"Scorpius, because of its position, is one of the two ‘gateways’ to the Milky Way, the other being the opposite constellation of Orion. The Scorpion men attacked Osiris in Egyptian legend, and the Scorpions sting killed Orion in Greek myth." [3].
Orion died from the bite of a scorpion (Scorpius):
"After being poisoned by the Scorpion, Orion was resurrected by Asclepius the God of Healing, whom we see in the sky as Ophiuchus, the Serpent Wrestler. Asclepius himself was killed by a thunderbolt of Zeus, because he was restoring too many souls to life so that the Underworld, the realm of the dead, was becoming depopulated" [7].
The Greeks (and Romans) associated Dionysus with Osiris, and Osiris was associated with Orion by the Egyptians.
Orion, according to the myth, was born from a bull's hide. At the request of Hyrieus for a son the gods Zeus, Poseidon and Hermes, urinated in the hide of the sacrificed bull, buried it in the earth, and from it Orion was born. The Hyades, 'the rain-nymphs', a group of stars on the face of the Bull, Taurus, are close to the constellation Orion. The infant Dionysus was nursed by the Hyades at Nysa (hence the name Dio-nysus), the Hyades were also called the Nysiades. Ovid brings in another character to the equation, Hyas: "To some they [the constellation Hyades] were the nurses of Bacchus [Dionysos], to others [i.e. the daughters of Atlas, sisters of Hyas]" [1]. Plutarch, a Greek writer living in Rome about the 1st century BC, visited Egypt and gives clues to the identifications of Greek and Egyptians characters of myths in his essay on Isis and Osiris, two translations are available online; here and here. He says:
"For the Greeks ... call a son hyios from hydor (water) and hysai (to rain), and Dionysus Hyes as being the lord of moist nature [all these words come from the same root as Hyades], since he is none other than Osiris. And indeed Hellanicus seems to have heard Osiris pronounced Hysiris by the priests... but as for what the priests openly do in the burial of the Apis when they transport its carcass on a raft, this in no way falls short of Bacchic (Roman name for Dionysus) revelry, for they wear fawn-skins and carry thyrsus-rods and produce shouts and movements as do the ecstatic celebrants of the Dionysiac rites. For this reason many of the Greeks make bull-shaped images of Dionysus, and the women of Elis urge in their prayers 'that the god may come with his foot of a bull' to them, while among the Argives Dionysus bears the name 'born of a bull', [Plutarch. Alnilam

Alnilam (Épsilon Orionis / ε Ori / 46 Orionis / HIP 26311) es, con magnitud aparente +1,70, la cuarta estrella más brillante en la constelación de Orión. Forma parte del llamado Cinturón de Orión (o «Las Tres Marías») junto a Mintaka (δ Orionis) y Alnitak (ζ Orionis), siendo la más brillante de las tres, pese a que es la más lejana (1340 años luz). Su nombre proviene del árabe Al Nizam, «el hilo de perlas».
Alnilam es una supergigante azul de tipo espectral B0Iab, muy masiva (unas 40 masas solares), y extraordinariamente luminosa: incluyendo la gran cantidad de radiación ultravioleta emitida por la estrella, su luminosidad equivale a 375.000 veces la luminosidad solar. Su temperatura superficial es de 25.000 K, tan caliente que ilumina la nebulosa de reflexión NGC 1990. Un fuerte viento estelar que sopla desde su superficie a 2000 km/s hace que pierda masa a un ritmo 20 millones de veces mayor que el Sol.
Es una estrella variable pulsante irregular del tipo Alfa Cygni, con una fluctuación en su brillo de 0,1 magnitudes. Con una edad aproximada de sólo 4 millones de años, en el futuro se convertirá en una supergigante roja para luego explotar como supernova y dejar una estrella de neutrones como remanente.

ORION
En las noches invernales podemos observar numerosas constelaciones con estrellas muy brillantes, entre todas ellas destaca la que es para muchos la más hermosa de todas ellas, ORION. Constelación ideal para empezar una observación en estos meses de invierno y repleta de objetos interesantes para observar, visibles con la ayuda de un pequeño telescopio e incluso de unos prismáticos.
MITOLOGIA
 Según la mitología griega Orión fue un mortal "engendrado" por tres dioses, Zeus, Hermes y Poseidón, creció hasta hacerse un gigante que podía caminar por el fondo del mar con la cabeza y los hombros por encima del nivel del agua, esta metáfora marinera intuye las dimensiones cósmicas de esta constelación, ocupando más de 15 grados de firmamento, con astros de primera magnitud. Orión fue mortal y como tal, le hirieron el amor, la vida y la muerte, tras muchas desgracias amorosas fue muerto por Apolo hermano de Artemisa, la cual estaba enamorada de Orión, quizá para defender la virtud de su hermana o simplemente que estaba celoso, como tantos hermanos, ¡quién sabe!, Orión murió y los dioses lo elevaron al cielo.
En invierno cuando la veda esta levantada le vemos cazando La Liebre (Lepus, al sur de Orión) con sus dos perros, el Can Mayor (Canis Major) y el Can Menor (Canis Minor), o peleando con El Toro (Taurus). Otra leyenda dice que Orión era un gran cazador y que la madre Tierra, para defender a las alimañas puso al Escorpión (Scorpius) para que acabara con su vida, y por eso Orión desaparece cuando el Escorpión asoma por el horizonte, los sumerios veían a su dios Ningirsu, que era un temible guerrero, los árabes le llamaron Al Gabbar (gigante), y anteriormente a todos ellos para los egipcios era el gran Onuris, cazador y exterminador de fieras, con el que tiene cierta afinidad fonética, quizás los griegos se vieron influenciados por él.
OBSERVACION
Varias estrellas destacan en esta constelación:
a Orionis (Betelgeuse, "Beit-al-Gueze" nombre árabe que significa "la axila del gigante" y que es efectivamente lo que representa) esta estrella es una gigante roja, sus dimensiones fluctúan entre 300 y 400 veces el diámetro de nuestro Sol, si la situáramos donde se encuentra éste la Tierra se encontraría dentro de su atmósfera, además su brillo es variable entre 0,4 y 0,9 magnitudes y se encuentra a una distancia de 520 a.l.
g Orionis, (Bellatrix, la estrella de las Amazonas), el otro hombro de Orión, de color azulado y de 1,6 m., su distancia es de 500 a.l., la radiación de Bellatrix demuestra ser suficiente para iluminar los velos gaseosos que se encuentran en la vasta región que ocupa la constelación.
b Orionis (Rigel, también nombre de origen árabe "Rijil-al-Jauzah" que quiere decir pierna izquierda) esta estrella es la más brillante de la constelación con una magnitud de 0,1. Como Betelgeuse también es una supergigante, pero ésta es de color blanco-azulado, situada a 900 a.l., si Rigel estuviera a una distancia de 9 a.l. de nosotros, la veríamos brillar en el cielo con la misma luminosidad que la Luna en cuarto creciente.
Rigel tiene una compañera de la 7ª magnitud y con una separación angular de 9", es visible con un pequeño telescopio de 80 mm. de abertura, aunque no sin dificultad ya que el brillo de la estrella principal dificulta su visión, además esta compañera de Rigel es una binaria espectroscópica.
k Orionis (Saiph) estrella también de color blanco, casi tan luminosa como Rigel pese a encontrarse a más de 2000 a.l., mediante cálculos se ha llegado a saber que esta estrella fue hace un millón de años la estrella más brillante del firmamento, equiparable a Venus, porque se encontraba mucho más cerca de nosotros.
Tres estrellas brillantes de segunda magnitud componen el cinturón de Orión, también llamado las "tres Marías", e Ori (Alnilam), d Ori (Mintaka) y q Ori (Alnitak), épsilon y zeta se encuentran aproximadamente a la misma distancia de nosotros unos 1.200 a.l., mientras que delta se encuentra a 1.500 a.l., y su luz tiene que atravesar las ingentes nubes de materia interestelar que hay en esta región del cielo, fue precisamente en esta estrella donde se obtuvieron pruebas evidentes de que el vacío interestelar no era el reino absoluto del universo, sino que por el contrario existen vastas regiones polvo y gas interestelar. Mintaka es una estrella triple siendo una de sus compañeras espectroscópica y la otra detectable fácilmente con un pequeño telescopio, a una distancia de 53" de arco.
e Ori (Alnilam) es una supergigante azul se aleja de nosotros a una velocidad de 28 km./s. , el tercer miembro es z Ori con una magnitud de 1,8 astro gemelo a e Ori, distancia, clase espectral y luminosidad, estrella triple con una compañera de 5,5 m a 3" y una segunda de 10 m., a un grado de zeta Ori se encuentra la nebulosa Cabeza de Caballo visible solamente por medios fotográficos. Sigma Ori cerca de zeta Ori es un sistema estelar séxtupla, a simple vista tiene una magnitud de cuatro, con la ayuda de un pequeño telescopio se pueden observar parte de sus compañeras como pequeñas lunas alrededor de un planeta. Toda esta zona de Orión es muy gratificante para la observación telescópica.
Debajo del cinturón se encuentra la "Espada de Orión", que contiene a la Gran Nebulosa M42, distante de nosotros más de 1.000 a.l., es un autentico horno de estrellas donde están naciendo de las ingentes nubes de polvo y gas que se encuentran en esta parte de la galaxia. A simple vista puede apreciarse como una simple mancha neblinosa, con x7 ó x8,5 M42 aparece en el mismo campo que el Cinturón y ya es posible comenzar a distinguir algunas estrellas y lo x20 descubren el Trapecio, la famosa estrella múltiple theta Ori con magnitudes de 5,1, 6,7, 6,7 y 8,0 dispuestas en forma de trapecio, responsable del brillo de la nebulosa.
Toda esta área es un complejo de nebulosidades y estrellas calientes jóvenes que en conjunto forman la daga de Orión, en la parte inferior de M42 se encuentra la estrella iota Ori, gigante azul-blanca de 3ª magnitud con una compañera de 7 ª visible con telescopios poco potentes, es la estrella más brillante de la daga, también cerca de iota Ori se encuentra Struve 747 un par de estrellas de 5ª y 6ª m, fácilmente separables con un telescopio pequeño, M 42 es relativamente joven no tiene más de 30.000 años.
Por encima de M42 se encuentra una pequeña mancha brumosa, NGC 1977 que contiene la estrella 42 Ori de 5ª m, más lejos al norte unos prismáticos ponen de manifiesto la existencia de NGC 1981, un puñado de estrellas dispersas de 6ª m que marcan el extremo norte de la empuñadura de la daga.
Aunque parezca increíble no se tienen registros de M42 de la antigüedad, a pesar de que es un objeto que se puede apreciar perfectamente a simple vista, incluso Galileo que examinó la constelación con sus catalejos no citó nunca la Nebulosa de Orión. Fue en el año 1611, cuando Nicola Peiresc la examinó por primera vez, posteriormente ha sido fruto de muchos estudios, y en la actualidad el telescopio espacial Hubble ha escudriñado innumerables veces las nubes de gas y polvo que se encuentran en esta región.
Por último al oeste de Orión nos encontramos con un grupo de estrellas en forma de arco, que representan según la mitología la piel de carnero que el cazador lleva en la mano izquierda, o el escudo con el que se protege del ataque del Toro (Taurus), son seis estrellas que van desde la magnitud 3,2 de pi 3 a la 4,5 de pi 6, la numeración dada por los antiguos astrónomos a estas estrellas no se corresponde con el brillo actual. Cerca de pi 6 se encuentra una estrella variable W Ori, con una variación de brillo de 5,3 a 7,7 y con un período de 212 días. Es una estrella más roja que Betelgeuse, pero como aparenta ser más débil el color destaca menos incluso con prismáticos.

la Gran Pirámide de Keops estaría identificada con la estrella Zeta Orionis también llamada Alnitak. La pirámide de Kefrén sería la estrella Epsilon Orionis o Alnilam. Finalmente, la tercera de las pirámides de la meseta de Gizeh, la de Micerinos, estaría vinculada a Delta Orionis, denominada en ocasiones Mintaca. |

Las tres Grandes Pirámides del Complejo de Gizeh no obedecen a una alineación perfecta entre si. Vistas de arriba, se observa fácilmente que Kheph-Rá (Quéfren) y la Gran Pirámide de Khufu (Keops) tiene sus diagonales alineadas. No pasa lo mismo con Men-Kau-Rá (Miquerinos). Ella “escapa” visiblemente de tal alineamiento. Ahora, si los constructores de tales monumentos tenían perfecto conocimiento de geometría, matemática, ingeniería y arquitectura, concluimos que tal desfasage no fue, en hipótesis alguna, accidental
Una observación más atenta, entonces, nos confirma el especial talento de los constructores con relación a la astronomía. La distancia entre las tres Pirámides y su posicionamiento entre si, es “coincidentemente” proporcional a las estrellas de la constelación de Orion (El cazador Celeste), pero específicamente las del “Cinturón de Orion” (Alnitak-z (Zeta) Orionis, Alnilam – e(Epsilon) Orionis y Mintaka – d(Delta) Orionis, conocidas en Brasil como “Las tres Marias”, obedeciendo al mismo patrón.
Aun verificando “coincidencias”, se observa una gran posibilidad de que el alineamiento del ápice de las tres pirámides está perfectamente sincronizado con las tres estrellas del “Cinturón de Orión” en cuanto estas aparecen en el cenit (Intersección de la vertical superior de un lugar específico con la esfera celeste). Mas popularmente, punto mas alto del cielo. Posición del sol al medio día en aproximadamente 10.500 AC! La historia oficial afirma que las pirámides fueron construidas durante la IV Dinastía (4000 a.
