Hi forum members, I have a question about how to translate PDF files into German using Translate.com. I recently came across the need to translate a document, and I was wondering how accurately this service handles this task. Does anyone have experience using Translate.com for PDFs? Maybe you have tips on how to make the translation better or avoid common mistakes?

I just recently used https://www.translate.com/services/pdf-translation/german to translate a PDF document into German, so I can share my experience. Overall, the translation is pretty good, but there are a few nuances to consider. First, I noticed that the service sometimes fails to handle formatting, especially if the document contains a lot of charts or complex tables. In such a case, the text may “disconnect” and some phrases may be misinterpreted. Therefore, I recommend converting a PDF to a text document before uploading it to avoid formatting problems. In terms of translation quality, Translate.com does handle basic phrases and simple sentences. However, if your document contains specialized vocabulary, such as in the legal or technical field, you should be careful. I have noticed that some terms are not translated accurately, and in such cases it is better to double-check with other sources. It's also important to mention that I always edit the text after translation. This helps to eliminate possible stylistic errors and make the translation more natural for a native speaker. By comparing the result with the original, you can better understand where difficulties arose and correct them. In addition, I would advise you to check if you have not forgotten about the cultural nuances of the language, as this can affect the perception of the text. All in all, Translate.com is a good tool for quick translations, but you should not forget about manual correction.

Indeed, using automatic translators always requires attention, especially with PDFs. I've tried Translate.com too and I agree that manual checking is always useful. Sometimes it helps to just consult a native speaker if possible. Also, I've noticed that the service works pretty well with simple texts, but as you rightly pointed out, specialized terms require extra attention.
