Review: Garca Farah is one of the many young Cubans whose
aspirations and freedom have been practically imposible to attain due to the
communist government. Garc a Farah was arrested for trying to leave his country
and was tried by the Popular Tribunal in Havana.

When Pope John Paul II visited Cuba in 1998, he presented the Cuban
government with a list of political prisoners and asked for clemency on their
behalf. Garca Farah was included in the list and denounced the manner in which
the cuban authorities had handled the Popes petition and was placed in solitary
confinement.

In his letters, Garc a Farah has told of the numerous abuses carried out by
the prison authorities on his person and other political
prisoners.

Garc a Farah se suma a la interminable relacin de j venes que tratando de darle
sentido a sus vidas, deciden abandonar el pas porque el gobierno de la Isla les
niega toda posibilidad de libertad y aspiraciones personales. Cuando la visita
del Papa a Cuba en el a o 1998, el nombre de este prisionero poltico figuraba
en la petici n de clemencia que presentara el Papa a la tiran a. Garca Farah
protest la manera que las autoridades manejaron la peticin y esta actitud lo
llev a las celdas de castigo. En varios escritos que han circulado en el
exterior, ha denunciado los abusos del sistema carcelario contra su persona y
dems presos pol ticos.
