1 Now Jericho was securely shut up because of the children of Israel; none went out, and none came in. 2 And the Lord said to Joshua: “See! I have given Jericho into your hand, its king, andthe mighty men of valor. 3 You shall march around the city, all you men of war; you shall go all around the city once. This you shall do six days. 4 And seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark. But the seventh day you shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets. 5 It shall come to pass, when they make a long blastwith the ram’s horn, and when you hear the sound of the trumpet, that all the people shall shout with a great shout; then the wall of the city will fall down flat. And the people shall go up every man straight before him.”
Statute of the Moon in the modern city of Jericho.
The children of Israel wandered for forty years in the wilderness before they came to the Promised Land. They were led each step of the way by the Ark of the Covenant. The first city the children of Israel conquered was Jericho, its walls fell down after being compassed by the Ark seven days.
David Flynn says, "there is far more significance to this story than is usually encountered in modern theology. This very familiar story produces incredible evidence of the divine standard. It also contains the unifying proportion that Newton sought, the divine number (2520) that according to Daniel would be finally understood in the time of the end."
Joshua 6:3 says, "You shall compass the city...and go around about the city once. Thus shalt thou do six days."
"The six-fold compassing of Jericho yields an exquisite yet simple equation, and its intrinsic meaning fits the astronomical works and theories of Sir Isaac Newton."
"Jericho" literally means the Moon city, and is a homonym of the Hebrew word for "throw down place."
Just as the ten plagues of Egypt were directed against ten various gods of Egypt, this circling of Jericho for six days was directed against the chief Canaanite deity, the Moon god of Jericho. On the seventh day, the God of Israel displayed His sovereignty over the city's deity with a visual demonstration of His perfect number 2520.
The Israelites symbolically represented the Moon's 2160 statute mile diameter as they circled Jericho with the Ark of the Covenant (which represented the divine standard of dimension) six times over the first six days. For more details on the dimension of the Moon, click here.
When the Israelites circled Jericho seven times on the seventh day (for a total of 2520 degrees) it was a calamitous day in the city's history. The city's walls fell down. 2520 is the number of the divine standard and is significant in the story of creation and of judgment. There is a future period of judgment on the world (the period of 2520 days, known as The Seven-Year Tribulation, The 70th Week of Daniel 9, and the Time of Jacob's Trouble).
