El experimento Philadelphia (voz español) 1984
En 1943, en plena Segunda Guerra Mundial, el destructor USS Eldridge, situado en el puerto de Filadelfia, va a ser sometido a un experimento ultrasecreto por el que se le equipará con unos sistemas que le harán invisible. Pero algo sale mal y tan sólo dos hombres sobreviven, los marineros David Herdeg y Jim Parker.
Pero lejos de regresar sanos y salvos al puerto, ambos se ven proyectados por un vórtice temporal que los lleva al futuro, a 40 años de distancia, apareciendo repentinamente en 1984 en algún lugar del desierto de Nevada.
El Experimento Filadelfia, también llamado “Proyecto Arcoiris” habría sido conducido por el Dr. Franklin Reno (o Rinehart) como una aplicación militar de la teoría unificada o “teoría general de la relatividad” de Albert Einstein. En resumen, la teoría postula la interrelación entre las fuerzas de la radiación electromagnética y la gravedad. Mediante una aplicación especial de la teoría, se creía posible, usando equipo especializado y suficiente energía, curvar la luz alrededor de un objeto, volviéndolo esencialmente invisible. La Marina habría considerado esto realmente valioso en caso de guerra, pues los Estados Unidos estaban participando en la Segunda Guerra Mundial en ese momento, y decidió aprobar y patrocinar el experimento. Un destructor de escolta, el USS Eldridge (DE-173), fue equipado con el generador requerido en el astillero de Filadelfia.
Las pruebas habrían empezado el verano de 1943, y hasta cierto punto tuvieron éxito al principio. Una prueba, el 22 de julio de 1943, volvió al Eldridge casi totalmente invisible, con algunos testigos reportando una “niebla verdosa” —sin embargo, algunos miembros de la tripulación se quejaron de náuseas posteriormente. En ese momento, el experimento fue alterado a petición de la Marina, con el objetivo de hacer al navío invisible a los radares únicamente.
El equipo fue recalibrado y el experimento se llevó a cabo el 28 de octubre. Esta vez, el Eldridge no sólo se volvió totalmente invisible a la vista, sino que de hecho desapareció del área en un relámpago azul. Al mismo tiempo, la base naval estadounidense en Norfolk, Virginia, a 600 km de distancia, un tripulante en sus costas declaró haber visto al Eldridge durante varios minutos, al final de los cuales desapareció, para volver a aparecer en Filadelfia, en sus coordenadas originales —supuestamente un caso accidental de teletransportación.

Alabado sea Jesucristo…
El primer escritor que recogió la actuación y el mensaje de Jesús lo resumió todo diciendo que Jesús proclamaba la “Buena Noticia de Dios”. Más tarde, los demás evangelistas emplean el mismo término griego (euanggelion) y expresan la misma convicción: en el Dios anunciado por Jesús las gentes encontraban algo “nuevo” y “bueno”.
En el Evangelio de Jesús los creyentes nos encontramos con un Dios desde el que podemos sentir y vivir la vida como un regalo que tiene su origen en el misterio último de la realidad que es Amor. Para mí es bueno no sentirme solo y perdido en la existencia, ni en manos del destino o el azar. Tengo a Alguien a quien puedo agradecer la vida.
En el Evangelio de Jesús nos encontramos con un Dios que, a pesar de nuestras torpezas, nos da fuerza para defender nuestra libertad sin terminar esclavos de cualquier ídolo; para no vivir siempre a medias ni ser unos “vividores”; para ir aprendiendo formas nuevas y más humanas de trabajar y de disfrutar, de sufrir y de amar. Para mí es bueno poder contar con la fuerza de mi pequeña fe en ese Dios.
En el Evangelio de Jesús nos encontramos con un Dios que despierta nuestra responsabilidad para no desentendernos de los demás. No podremos hacer grandes cosas, pero sabemos que hemos de contribuir a una vida más digna y más dichosa para todos pensando sobre todo en los más necesitados e indefensos. Para mí es bueno creer en un Dios que me pregunta con frecuencia qué hago por mis hermanos.
En el Evangelio de Jesús nos encontramos con un Dios que nos ayuda a entrever que el mal, la injusticia y la muerte no tienen la última palabra. Un día todo lo que aquí no ha podido ser, lo que ha quedado a medias, nuestros anhelos más grandes y nuestros deseos más íntimos alcanzarán en Dios su plenitud. A mí me hace bien vivir y esperar mi muerte con esta confianza.
Ciertamente, cada uno de nosotros tiene que decidir cómo quiere vivir y cómo quiere morir. Cada uno ha de escuchar su propia verdad. Para mí no es lo mismo creer en Dios que no creer. A mí me hace bien poder hacer mi recorrido por este mundo sintiéndome acogido, fortalecido, perdonado y salvado por el Dios revelado en Jesús.

Las moscas en la miel
Hay tres frentes que asechan la rectitud moral del hombre: tener más cosas (codicia), disponer de más poder (orgullo), disfrutar más satisfacciones de los sentidos (sensualidad). Por ejemplo: comer es necesario, pero comer en exceso es gula. El elemento común de las tres tentaciones es el egoísmo, el amor desordenado por uno mismo, que nos lleva al orgullo, a la codicia y a la sensualidad, y nos impide amar de verdad. Una fábula para aclarar.
De un panal se derramó su deliciosa miel, y las moscas acudieron ansiosas a devorarla. Y era tan dulce que no podían dejarla. Pero sus patas se fueron prendiendo en la miel y no pudieron alzar el vuelo de nuevo. Ya a punto de ahogarse en su tesoro, exclamaron: - ¡Nos morimos, desgraciadas nosotras, por quererlo tomar todo en un instante de placer! (Esopo).
A tu alrededor y dentro de ti mismo hay seducciones que pueden arrastrarte fuera del recto camino. Jesús te recomienda estar atento, pensar bien lo que haces, tener control sobre tus apetencias; y además recurrir a la oración para fortalecer tu decisión de llevar una vida en la presencia de Dios que sea agradable a sus ojos. Este es el combate del cristiano.
