La Letra “G”
Entorno a las características del Poema de Regius (el manuscrito más antiguo existente acerca de la “Freemasonry”), escrito alrededor de 1390 explicando la “Leyenda de los Oficios” como antes éstos se llamaban, ninguno iguala al de Euclidis y su famoso “Elementos de Geometría”, por su obvia importancia. Es evidente que el autor era casi un neófito de Euclidis ; lo que si es relevante es que ha situado a éste entre los fundadores del “Oficio Ritual” sin constar que fuese así, lo sorprendente es que para él la Masonería y la Geometría eran sinónimos. El énfasis de colocar la Geometría como elemento central de la Masonería aparece reiteradamente en los documentos que siguieron a Regius, siendo todos ellos una variante de la vieja Leyenda, haciendo hincapié en la Geometría, sobre lo cual los manuscritos de Dowland dicen, por ejemplo “Estos Valles serán conocidos como Masonería”. Entonces ¿Qué llevó a nuestros antiguos Hermanos a exaltar a Euclidis? Obviamente la misma razón que les llevó a considerar la Geometría como un secreto sagrado y pasarla a los aprendices en forma del más solemne juramento secreto. Eso mismo les llevó a rendir culto a nuestro Gran “Hermano Pitágoras,” el cual había transformado la Geometría en una religión. En consecuencia los números (por ejemplo 3, 5, 7), líneas, ángulos (el cuadrado), círculos (los compases), puntos (puntos dentro de un círculo), triángulos (la cuarenta y siete Proposición o su teorema), cubos y muchas otras figuras geométricas y matemáticas se convirtieron en símbolos, enseñando a los jóvenes cómo construir y cómo vivir, heredando nosotros mismos muchas de esas enseñanzas. Eso guió a sus sucesores, los “Masones Superlativos”, a colgar la letra “G”, inicial de la palabra Geometría, por encima de la silla del M:.V:.M:. como recordatorio perpetuo de que la Masonería debe su existencia al arte de la Ciencia y la Geometría. Como estudiantes y practicantes de la Masonería contemporánea no podemos apreciar el pleno significado e impacto de todo ello, ni llegar a una plena comprensión de la Filosofía Masónica que todos deseamos, sin recordar el hecho (frecuentemente pasado por alto) de que la Geometría y las Matemáticas eran sinónimos de la época a la que pertenecen nuestros escritos más antiguos. Si dichos autores viviesen hoy en día, concederían la primacía a las Matemáticas, siendo la Geometría una de las muchas ramificaciones de las mismas. Los “Masones Operativos” divagaron — a su manera, dentro de sus límites, sufriendo por sus carencias- para resolver lo que hoy describiríamos como la “Filosofía Matemática” de la vida. No es difícil imaginar lo que les ha llevado a dicha situación. Vivieron en una época cuando muchas de las artes y la mayor parte de las ciencias se habían perdido; cuando la mayor parte de la humanidad vivía en la indigencia bajo un sistema brutal de esclavitud; cuando la ignorancia y la superstición cubría con su manto negro a toda Europa e Inglaterra; cuando poblaciones enteras fueron arrasadas por la hambruna, la peste, o por pequeñas guerras sin ningún significado excepto el de escapar de su mísera vida; cuando cualquier descubridor, inventor o pensador (Roger Bacon por ejemplo) corrían el peligro de ser acusados de Magia Negra o brujería; cuando la mayor parte de los valores de la vida estaban por debajo de un nivel infrahumano. 29. Pero yo le conozco, porque de él procedo, y él me envió.

48. Respondieron entonces los judíos, y le dijeron: ¿No decimos bien nosotros, que tú eres samaritano, y que tienes demonio?
49. Respondió Jesús: Yo no tengo demonio, antes honro a mi Padre; y vosotros me deshonráis.
50. Pero yo no busco mi gloria; hay quien la busca, y juzga.
51. De cierto, de cierto os digo, que el que guarda mi palabra, nunca verá muerte.
52. Entonces los judíos le dijeron: Ahora conocemos que tienes demonio. Abraham murió, y los profetas; y tú dices: El que guarda mi palabra, nunca sufrirá muerte.
53. ¿Eres tú acaso mayor que nuestro padre Abraham, el cual murió? ¡Y los profetas murieron! ¿Quién te haces a ti mismo?
54. Respondió Jesús: Si yo me glorifico a mí mismo, mi gloria nada es; mi Padre es el que me glorifica, el que vosotros decís que es vuestro Dios.
55. Pero vosotros no le conocéis; mas yo le conozco, y si dijere que no le conozco, sería mentiroso como vosotros; pero le conozco, y guardo su palabra.
56. Abraham vuestro padre se gozó de que había de ver mi día; y lo vio, y se gozó.
57. Entonces le dijeron los judíos: Aún no tienes cincuenta años, ¿y has visto a Abraham?
58. Jesús les dijo: De cierto, de cierto os digo: Antes que Abraham fuese, yo soy.
