Monte Carmelo

El Monte Carmelo (en hebreo: הר הכרמל, Har ha'Karmel; en árabe, جبل الكارمل Yabal al-Karmil) es una cordillera en Israel sobre el mar Mediterráneo. El monte Carmelo tiene forma triangular, mide unos 26 km de largo y alrededor de 7 kilómetros de ancho y su altura máxima de unos 550 m. La ciudad de Haifa está parcialmente situada sobre el Monte Carmelo, como también otras pequeñas ciudades como Nesher, Tirat Karmel. Sus coordenadas son: 32º 50' de latitud Norte y 35º de longitud Este. Su nombre viene a decir jardín ("Karmel" en árabe) o viñedos de Dios ("Karem El" en idioma hebreo). En la antigüedad estaba cubierta por viñedos y fue siempre famosa por su fertilidad.
Un filósofo sirio del siglo IV a. C., llamado Jámblico, escribió que el Monte Carmelo era "el más santo de todos los montes". Las cuevas ubicadas en el Monte Carmelo fueron declaradas Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la Unesco en 2012.[1]
Inspirados en el profeta Elías, durante el siglo XII, un grupo de hombres (probablemente ermitaños o cruzados) fundó en el Monte Carmelo la Orden de los Carmelitas. Éstos llevarían al mundo en siglos sucesivos la hoy extendidísima devoción por Nuestra Señora del Monte Carmelo, referida comúnmente como Virgen del Carmen.
Se menciona en el Antiguo Testamento de la Biblia. De acuerdo al relato del capítulo 18 del Primer Libro de los Reyes, es aquí donde el profeta Elías demuestra que el Señor de Israel es el verdadero Dios. El Altar había sido totalmente destruido, por lo que Elías reunió 12 piedras (una por cada Tribu de Israel) con las cuales lo reparó. Era un altar que había sido edificado desde los tiempos de los jueces y llamado "Altar de Karmel." De acuerdo a los historiadores, Vespasiano consultó en él (Notas de la Traducción Kadosh Israelita Mesiánica, por Diego de Ascunce [2003]) La orden religiosa católica de los Carmelitas fue fundada en el Monte Carmelo en el siglo XII por un grupo, no se sabe si peregrinos, ermitaños o cruzados. La orden creció hasta convertirse en una de las mayores órdenes religiosas católicas. La tradición carmelita sugiere que una comunidad de ermitaños judíos vivieron en el Monte Carmelo en los tiempos del profeta Elías aunque no hay evidencia documental de que dicha comunidad existiera.
Durante la Gran Guerra, el Monte Carmelo tomó un importante papel estratégico. La batalla de Megiddo, que tuvo lugar en sus cercanías, fue el punto de inflexión que inclinó el fiel hacia el lado británico.
A un paso entre la cumbre del Monte Carmelo que da entrada al Valle de Jezreel, donde tendrá lugar la Batalla de Armagedón según algunas interpretaciones cristianas.
En la falda del Monte Carmelo en el corazón de Haifa se encuentra el Santuario del Báb, lugar donde se enterraron los restos mortales del profeta el Báb en 1909 y cuya estructura externa fue completada en los años 50. Este mausoleo se encuentra rodeado por dieciocho terrazas ajardinadas, junto al Centro Mundial Bahá'í, y forman el centro administrativo y espiritual de la Comunidad Mundial bahá'í. La localización de ambos fue designada por Bahá'u'lláh, fundador de la Fe Bahá'í, en la Tabla del Carmelo. El Santuario del Báb constituye uno de los principales atractivos turísticos de Haifa. La montaña es sagrada y un lugar de peregrinación para los bahá'ís de todo el mundo. Además, desde 2008 representan un Patrimonio de la humanidad.
Los actuales grupos de esenios señalaban que el Monte Carmelo era la fortaleza espiritual del templo B'nai-Amen, de los movimientos esenios del norte - los "Nazarenos" - descritos por Epifanio de Salamis, Padre de la Iglesia, en su Panarion (1:18) y brevemente señalado por el historiador Flavio Josefo en su Guerra de los Judíos. Excavaciones en el Monte Carmelo en 1958 descubrieron lo que parece ser el altar de Elías, la cueva donde él vivió y la fuente de Elias y los restos de un antiguo monasterio.
De 1930 a 1932, en el Monte Carmelo, Dorothy Garrod descubrió restos neanderthales y modernos en las cuevas del Carmelo el-Wad, el-Tabun y es-Skhul.[2]
Fotógrafos y diarios documentaron en 1932 el descubrimiento en el Monte Carmelo, de un esqueleto femenino de neanderthal, Tabun I, uno de los más importantes fósiles humanos descubiertos, hasta ahora. La excavación de Tabun produjo un récord estratigráfico en la región abarcando 600.000 años o más de actividad humana."[3] [4]
Otros usos del nombre[editar]
El Monte Carmelo es ampliamente conocido como un monte sacro, en su origen, para las religiones judía, cristiana y baha'i, los antiguos esenios y un lugar que ha influido en el nombre de otros lugares, movimientos religiosos y en la literatura en todo el mundo. Algunas otras montañas y lugares de todo el mundo han sido llamadas Carmelo, debido a esta montaña bíblica.

Santa María del Monte Carmelo, referida comúnmente como Virgen del Carmen o Nuestra Señora del Carmen, es una de las diversas advocaciones de la Virgen María. Su denominación procede del llamado Monte Carmelo, en Israel, un nombre que deriva de la palabra Karmel o Al-Karem y que se podría traducir como 'jardín'. Existen hoy en activo órdenes carmelitas repartidas por todo el mundo, masculinas y femeninas, las cuales giran en torno a esta figura mariana.
En España y Costa Rica es patrona del mar, también es patrona de la Armada Española. Es considerada Reina y Patrona de Chile, de sus Fuerzas Armadas y de los Carabineros; es patrona de la Policía Nacional de los colombianos, los transportadores en Colombia;en Bolivia es la patrona de la Nación y de sus Fuerzas Armadas; en el Perú es “Patrona del Criollismo” y "Alcaldesa de la Ciudad de Lima"; y en Venezuela es la patrona del Ejército. Además, fue la patrona del Ejército de los Andes que liderado por el general José de San Martín, gestó la independencia de Argentina y Chile.
Esta advocación da nombre a todas aquellas personas que se llaman Carmen, Carmela o Carmelo, celebrando su onomástica el día de la fiesta de esta Virgen, el 16 de julio.
Origen del culto[editar]
La veneración cristiana se remonta a los ermitaños devotos del lugar que, después de las cruzadas, formaron en Europa la Orden de Nuestra Señora del Monte Carmelo (carmelitas).El Monte Carmelo, actual Israel, ha sido un sitio de devoción religiosa desde la antigüedad. En la Biblia Hebrea se le menciona con el nombre de Hakkarmel (lugar del jardín), en el libro del profeta Isaías como un lugar de gran belleza y aparece también en relación al profeta Elías. No aparece, sin embargo, en el Nuevo Testamento.
Según la tradición carmelita, el 16 de julio de 1251, la imagen de la Virgen del Carmen se le habría aparecido a San Simón Stock, superior general de la Orden, a quien le entregó sus hábitos y el escapulario, principal signo del culto mariano carmelita. La veneración recibió reconocimiento papal en 1587. Según esa tradición devota, la Virgen prometió liberar del Purgatorio a todas las almas que hayan vestido el escapulario durante su vida, el sábado siguiente a la muerte de la persona y llevarlos al cielo, creencia que ha sido respaldada por los Pontífices. La iconografía principal de la Virgen la muestra portando dicho escapulario.
La devoción mariana hacia la Virgen del Carmen se extendió a muchos países de Europa y América, destacando entre ellos España, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Guatemala, México, Panamá, Perú y Venezuela.

La Virgen es venerada en numerosas ciudades a lo largo del país. Esta advocación mariana es patrona del Ejercito de los Andes, fundado por el General San Martín. y del Servicio penitenciario federal Argentino

- Ciudad de Cañuelas, su parroquia principal lleva su nombre: "Nuestra Señora del Carmen".
- De la ciudad de Lobos.
- En Zárate también es su virgen patrona.
- En Las Flores provincia de buenos aires también es su patrona
- En Necochea Provincia de Buenos Aires, su parroquia principal lleva su nombre: "Nuestra Señora del Carmen".
- En Loberia provincia de buenos aires también es su patrona y celebramos la fiesta el 16 de julio
- En Tres Arroyos.
- En Benavidez también es la Patrona.

- En la Parroquia de General Villegas.
- En la Ciudad de Carmen de areco todos los 16 de julio se rinde culto a la Virgen del Carmen se realizan actividades religiosas en honor a la Sta. Patrona, la peregrinación a pie junto a la imagen de la virgen hasta la parroquia que lleva su nombre "Nuestra Señora del Carmen", allí se realiza la misa. 60 días antes de la celebración cientos de imágenes salen a recorrer los hogares y regresando el día antes de la celebración .

- La Ciudad de Famailla, en donde se la conoce como Virgen del los Cabellos.
- La Ciudad de Aguilares, con amplia devoción.
- De Tafi del Valle.
- El Pueblo de La Madrid (departamento Graneros).
En todas estas localidades tucumanas se celebra la fiesta patronal el 16 de julio con grandes muestras de fe y devoción.
En la Provincia de Santiago del Estero :
- Es patrona de la Ciudad de Santiago del Estero y la Catedral Basílica de dicha ciudad ofrece su altar mayor a esta imagen, patrona del pueblo santiagueño.
- Es patrona de Villa la Punta, un pueblo ubicado en el sur de las Sierras de Guasayan
En la ciudad de Nogoyá, provincia de Entre Ríos, la virgen es muy venerada y es la patrona del pueblo; inicialmente conocida como Nuestra Señora del Carmen de Nogoyá.
En la Provincia de Corrientes:
- Es patrona en la ciudad de Bella Vista
- En la ciudad de Sauce, su imagen también se venera con amplia devoción.
En Formosa es patrona de la provincia,establecido por ley del primer gobierno constitucional y allí hay una parroquia (Iglesia Catedral) con el nombre de la virgen, en la cual es venerada la imagen que trajo el fundador de la ciudad Cnl Luis Jorge Fontana
En Puerto Iguazú, Provincia de Misiones, se encuentra la Parroquia Virgen del Carmen patrona de la ciudad y de las cataratas del Iguazú.
En la Ciudad de El Carmen (provincia de Jujuy) todos los 16 de Jjlio también se rinde culto a La Virgen del Carmen mencionando la particularidad que desde el 1º hasta el 31 de julio se realizan actividades culturales, deportivas y religiosas en honor a la Sta. Patrona organizados por diferentes instituciones de la ciudad como así también el municipio local siendo la única ciudad del país que tiene esta particularidad el 15 de julio se realiza la peregrinación itinerante por los diques Las Maderas y La Ciénaga lugo se recorre a pie junto a la imagen de la virgen 7 km hasta la parroquia allí a las 20hs se realiza el rezo de la misa luego serenata y a las 00:00 hs del 16 se le canta las mañanitas con los mariachis y toda la población recibiendo su día con fuegos artificiales el 22 se lleva a cabo el desfile cívico y militar en la ciudad de El Carmen.
En la Provincia de Santa Fe:
- En Helvecia, la parroquia lleva su nombre ya que es la patrona del pueblo.
- En la ciudad de Santa Fe existe la Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Cármen, iglesia que fuera elevada a esa categoría por el Papa Juan Pablo II.
- En la ciudad de Funes la parroquia Nuestra Señora del Carmen fue inaugurada el 10 de noviembre de 1912. Carmen Lejarza y Estela Jaccuzzi, ambas presidentas honorarias de la comisión de damas, contribuyeron al sostenimiento de la que en principio había sido una capilla. La señora Lejarza, por quien lleva el nombre la parroquia, trajo desde Europa la imagen de la Virgen Del Carmen y así resultó impuesto como Santa Patrona.
En la Arquidiócesis de Rosario es Patrona de las parroquias y de los siguientes pueblos: Soldini, Pérez, Pujato. Además en la ciudad de Rosario existe una parroquia con su nombre a cargo de los Padres Carmelitas.

Su imagen se se encuentra en la parroquia de nuestra señora del Carmen, que es la primera y la más antigua construida en la Patagonia Argentina. What do people do?
Ramadan is a month of fasting for many Muslims in the United States. Fasting during Ramadan is one of the Five Pillars (fundamental religious duties) of Islam. It is a time of self-examination and increased religious devotion.
People of Islamic faith are encouraged to read the entire Qur'an during Ramadan. Some Muslims recite the entire Qur'an by the end of Ramadan through special prayers known as Tarawih, which are held in mosques every night of the month, during which a section of the Qur'an is recited. Many Islamic businesses and organizations may amend opening hours to suit prayer times during Ramadan in the United States. There may also be some congestion around mosques during prayer times, such as in the evenings.
Background
Ramadan is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar, which consists of 12 months and lasts for about 354 days. The word “Ramadan” is derived from an Arabic word for intense heat, scorched ground and shortness of food and drink. It is considered to be the most holy and blessed month. Fighting is not allowed during this period.
The month of Ramadan traditionally begins with a new moon sighting, marking the start of the ninth month in the Islamic calendar. Many Muslims (except children, the sick and the elderly) abstain from food, drink, and certain other activities during daylight hours in Ramadan. This is considered as the holiest season in the Islamic year and commemorates the time when the Qu’ran (Islamic holy book) is said to have been revealed to the Prophet Muhammad. This occurred on Laylat Al-Qadr, one of the last 10 nights of the month. Ramadan ends when the first crescent of the new moon is sighted again, marking the new lunar month’s start. Eid-al-Fitr is the Islamic holiday that marks the end of Ramadan.
