Sathya Sai Baba's Early MiracleBy: Priya Devi R

Sathya Sai Baba's miracles are numerous. A miracle that Sathya Sai Baba performed during His early days is sure to interest those who believe in Him.

Some of the devotees, may have been familiar with the photo of Baba sitting on a tiger skin. One cannot but fancy, the interesting account of the story behind the skin of the tiger, when unravelled.

The story goes thus : Once a hunting enthusiast shot a tiger and was on his way home, when his car broke down near River Chitravathi, which winded in its course through Puttaparthi. The driver tried his level best to get the car going, however, it would not budge. The hunter was perplexed as to how he should proceed further.

The driver then mentioned about a lad in the village, who was said to be endowed with miraculous powers. The hunter, finding no other way out, brushing aside intervening rational reasoning, gave in to the driver's suggestion and asked him to fetch the strange lad.

After a while, the driver arrived with the lad, who was none other than Sathya Sai Baba, who was a teenager then. The Swamy who arrived near the car, chastised the hunter, “What did that poor tiger do to you, to shoot it down? Are you aware of the fact that you have allowed two little cubs to fend for themselves? Take care of those cubs!,” saying so, the Swamy tapped the car and walked His way.

The car immediately started with the contact of the Swamy, and the hunter who was spellbound by the Swamy's power, directed the car back to the forest. He found the cubs and secured them in a zoo to be taken care of properly. He subsequently, met the Swamy later in Puttaparthi and handed over the skin to Him.

This is one of Sathya Sai Baba's early miracles, sometimes also termed as His first miracle, worked out for someone beyond the borders of Puttaparthi.

Swami's Divine Convocation Discourse - 22nd November 2010

I do not want to revert to what has been already said. What is behind all this grandeur here? It is the innate culture of Bharat that is reflected in this celebration.

People go to different pilgrim centres to see God. They are in quest of God. I tell you, Oh simpletons, you are God, God is within you, above you, below you and by the side of you. Do not consider Him to be separate from you. The very Self (Atma) is divine. Have this feeling ingrained in you. Right from a tiny tot to a grown up, from microcosm to macrocosm, God is present in everyone. If you have such feelings, you will be successful in life. Therefore, you should repeatedly think that God is not elsewhere.

God is in your heart. The heart is the centre of God. You are God. You and God are one. God resides in the altar of your heart. There is no need to renounce the world. Remain in society with the awareness that God is within you. That is why it is said, Sahasra Seersha Purusha Sahasraksha Sahasra Pad (The Cosmic Being has thousands of heads, eyes and feet).

After being abducted by Ravana, it was only the power of her chastity which made Sita meet her husband Lord Rama. Mother Sita spent 10 months in Lanka. All the while she was thinking of Rama. She did not look at the face of anyone. She was even put to the test of fire, but she came out unscathed. Bharat is the land which gave birth to great women like Damayanti who reduced an evil-minded hunter to ashes by the power of chastity. This land also gave birth to Savitri who brought her dead husband back to life; Chandramati who extinguished wild fire with the power of truth. Can you show an example of a wife bringing her dead husband back to life? Have you seen such persons? She belongs to this land of Bharat.

Today we do not find such women of chastity. Bhagawan referred to Draupadi who never said ‘no’ to her husbands. She was always willing to serve them. She was totally contented. If the husband and wife live in harmony, the whole country will progress. Because of disharmony between the husband and wife, there is no peace anywhere. If there is adjustment between them, there will be peace. If such a life is lived, there will be no chaos. I want all householders to live in harmony and peace. There is no penance beyond this adjustment. Harmony at home is most important. Then all the rest will follow. If there is peace and harmony at home, there will be no anxiety. The path shown by these illustrious women should become the guideline of your life.

If you adhere to discipline in life, you will live a long and healthy life. The pure heart is the temple of God. Take care that negative thoughts do not enter your heart. The mind should not become perverted. Unity is possible only through spirituality. I want students to develop the principle of unity. Do not be narrow-minded. Youth should develop good character. The end of education is character. With good character, you can achieve anything. If you act according to the dictates of the mind, how can you expect to realise God? In the name of meditation, you sit while the mind loiters in the market.

You should not allow the mind to waver. Even if you are angry, do not fight. If you fight with someone, you are hurting yourself. Rectify your thoughts. That is what students should do. Educare is essential today. Along with formal education, educare is needed. Do not deviate from the path shown by Bhagawan. Be humble, do not be arrogant. When Rama was in search of Sita, they found some jewels. Rama asked Lakshmana to identify the jewels as to whether they were of Sita’s. Lakshmana was one of immaculate character. He had never seen the face of Sita. He had seen her toe rings since he used to touch her feet. One should live an ideal life like Lakshmana. But today this sort of exemplary character is not noticed.

There is no unity at the national level. There is no unity, but instead there is enmity. Everyone should work for the unity of this land. In fact, in every field of public life, unity is required.

If one secures high percentage of marks, there will arise jealousy in others. Jealousy is the reason for all controversies. You may tell that you are a top ranker, but it is only written on a piece of paper. Your heart, integrity that makes you really great, not medals.

All are the children of God. You should mingle with each other as brothers. This is the message of Bhagawan on this occasion of Convocation.

Sri Sathya Sai Baba the Living God

Loganathan Prabhakaran

As per the Book Sathya Sai Speaks Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba has said “ The Lord comes as Avatar, when he is anxiously awaited by saints and sages. Sadhus prayed - and I have come”. Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba is a Poorna (total) Avatar, endowed with divine powers beyond the immediate need.

Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba came into this world and His first and Foremost Annunciation to the world at His age of 14 years in the year 1940, form the basis of all His divine teachings and messages. That is “First learn that you are in the ocean of worldly life; next resolve on crossing it; then fix a Guru or any name and form of God, which appeals to you. Then dwell on His Glory; do Bhajan, but do it with all your mind and concentration; sing in praise of the Master’s Lotus Feet with all your heart; it enables you to cross the difficult-to-cross ocean of the birth-death cycle.

Sri Sathya Sai Baba

Thus the Living God in this Kali Yuga is Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba.

Spiritual transformation

Spiritual transformation may look a distanced aspect at all times, on a perception by many that it is difficult to achieve. But, every human being should strive to open the door of spiritual transformation, when the rest of the said gamut of behaviour would follow. Bhagawan Baba has said “All are one and Be Alike to Everyone”. This seem difficult to a beginner of Spiritual Practice, but in effect it is simple. How is it simple ? It is simple, when one understands that the one and the same Atma that is within everyone, which has come from Paramathma.

In one of the very recent Discourses in this month of November 2010, Bhagawan has said “Unfortunately, no transformation is taking place in the human beings in spite of repeating the Divine Name several times. You should chant the Name of God wholeheartedly with full faith. Faith develops love towards God and that love towards God confers Grace.

No doubt, people today are repeating the holy name, but not with love and steady faith. They are more concerned with how others are singing and whether their shruthi (pitch) and raaga (melody) are in order, etc. They are doing Naamasankirtana with a wavering mind. There can be no transformation in them by such fickle minded sadhana in spite of doing it for hours together. Naamasankirtan has to be done with absolute concentration and steady faith like a yogi. It is said ‘Sathatham Yoginah’. One can achieve great transformation if the mind is steadily fixed on the Divine Name.

Spiritual transformation takes place by Divine Grace. It is interesting to know how one would have Grace. Bhagawan says, “If you have Purity of Heart and Mastery of Senses, Grace is your Right”.

How Beautiful it is to have as a Right, to Divine Grace.

Miseries in life is common to mankind perhaps the Karmic effects. Nevertheless, would misery have a chance. Everyone worships when in difficulties. But, none while happy; If one worshipped while happy, would misery have a chance. Prayers to God mostly for materialistic benefits is the norm in the present times. God is all compassionate and showers His Grace. Bhagawan has often said “I will give you what you want, hoping you will want, what I have come to give you”.

Many proclaim of wanting Spiritual Enlightenment. This cannot be achieved, if the attachment to Ego and body - inspired desires are not given up. This means reducing the desires for tangible things. Our beloved Lord Baba has pointed out that one should impose limits on Waste, particularly in the areas of money, food, time and energy. This is referred to as ‘Ceiling on Desires’.

Divine direction

Once in an interview devoted entirely to the Ceiling on Desires program, Bhagawan pointed out something surprising - that Time is the one commodity that everyone in the world has at their disposal in equal amount. Everyone has just 24 hours each day. If part of it is wasted, it is gone forever and can never be retrieved. Well, the basic fact behind exercising ‘Ceiling on Desires’ is on one side of the coin, is to reduce extravagance and on the other side to invest the savings achieved out of this Ceiling, on Seva activities. Hands that Serve are Holier than the Lips that Pray; Service to Man is Service to God. This is another Divine direction of Bhagawan. Bhagawan said, “Don’t think service means taking a broom and sweeping the villages. It does not mean that.”

He made many qualifications and one of the things He said, which is very important, is if you do your duties in life to the station you are born properly, that is service.

If you are a doctor, do your job properly, that is service. If you are a teacher, if you do your job properly, that is service. If you are a bureaucrat and you do your job properly, that is service. If work is to be transformed into worship, it can happen only as Swami said, “Do your duty sincerely.” There is no point in going outside and doing seva, when in your own house you don’t do service to your own children or in the organization where you are, your proper duty is not discharged, to the best of your capacity. This is an aspect of service which we should not ignore.

Spiritual leader

Sathya Sai Baba is a highly revered spiritual leader and world teacher, whose life and message are inspiring millions of people throughout the world to turn God-ward and to lead more purposeful and moral lives. His timeless and universal teachings, along with the manner in which he leads his own life, are attracting seekers of Truth from all the religions of the world. Yet, he is not seeking to start a new religion. Nor does he wish to direct followers to any particular religion. Rather, he urges us to continue to follow the religion of our choice and/or upbringing.

Sathya Sai Baba interacts with all people on a heart-to-heart basis.

There are no intermediaries between himself and those who yearn for knowledge and experience of God. Everyday for more than 50 years, Sathya Sai Baba has walked among and talked with the spiritual pilgrims who gather around him in increasing numbers. He offers solace and inspiration to all sincere seekers of truth.

The name of Sathya Sai Baba’s ashram is Prasanthi Nilayam, which means “abode of the highest peace”.

Education system

Bhagawan Sathya Sai Baba often stated ‘My Life is My Message’. Seva Projects initiated by Bhagawan is a lesson to mankind to emulate. Education: Sathya Sai Baba places great importance on proper education for young people. Parents and community leaders are urged to concern themselves with the informal as well as the formal experiences to which their children and young adults are exposed.

He has established a model education system, which includes primary schools, secondary schools, and an accredited university with three campuses, offering undergraduate, Masters, and Ph.D. degrees. No fees are charged to students and admission is open to all, regardless of race, religion or economic condition.

In addition to emphasizing the pursuit of academic excellence, Sathya Sai Baba’s system of “integral education” is designed to foster self-discipline and pro-social conduct. Students are required to take courses on morality and spirituality and to devote several hours each week to some form of community service. Sathya Sai Baba says, “the end of education is character”.

Human life

Health care: Sathya Sai Baba has built an ultra-modern 300-bed hospital close to the University and ashram. Highly specialized operations, including open-heart operations and kidney transplants, are performed routinely.

There is absolutely no charge to the patient for professional or hospital expenses.

Motivated by the desire to serve humanity, doctors, nurses, and workers in the hospital render extraordinary, compassionate and loving care to all patients.

Service to those in Need: Recently, Sathya Sai Baba initiated a project to provide an adequate supply of pure water to 1.5 million inhabitants of the State of Andhra Pradesh (India) who were living in drought conditions.

The Prime Minister of India travelled to Prasanthi Nilayam (Sathya Sai Baba’s main ashram) in order to inaugurate the project. Sathya Sai Baba demonstrates that it is the duty of society to ensure that all people have access to the basic requirements for the sustenance of human life.

Sathya Sai Baba has given his life, selflessly and magnanimously, to the service of mankind.

Rapture of the soul

Mystics and saints of all religions have one thing in common – the experience of rapture in their transcendental love for God.

Sri Sathya Sai Baba says, "The bliss derived from experiencing the Divine has been extolled by Vedic seers and sages. It is holy, eternal, ineffable and infinite. It is the bliss of oneness with God."

Meerabai and Tyagaraja, St Francis of Assisi and St Teresa of Avila or Hafiz and Rabia, the defining feature is their blissful communion with God. This bliss has nothing to do with their external life or the arrangement or otherwise of their worldly affairs. It is an inner experience, beyond body and senses, in the realm of spirit, that confers beatitude. The experience is so powerful and elevating, it obliterates everything else – even pain. Often these God-lovers face extreme hardships in their personal lives, even ridiculed; but it matters not to them, for they are stationed in the higher realms of human consciousness, where honour and dishonour, name and fame and worldly wealth are irrelevant.

Saints float in a free zone beyond prescribed rituals and scriptural codes. They may spontaneously devise their own rules to provide a channel for the expression of their divine love. This finds immediate sanction with the Supreme Lord who receives newer expressions of pure love from his devotees. Andal, the Tamil saint, offered flower garlands to her beloved Krishna which were technically 'stale' as they were first worn on her own person! Her distraught father, the temple priest, reprimanded her severely for this unpardonable breach, but Krishna came to him in a dream and expressed His longing for those very 'used' garlands of Andal. Maharashtrian saint Sakubai, ever absorbed in thoughts of her beloved Panduranga, chanted his name incessantly, and offered him everything – including dung-cakes that she made in her courtyard. While flinging them on the floor she would chant 'Panduranga arpanam'. So sincere and profound was her devotion that this unconventional offering reached the shrine of the Panduranga temple nearby. Enraged, the temple priest came to beat her up with a stick. However, the stick broke in his hand and on returning to the temple he saw the Panduranga statue bruised and dented. He ran back and fell at Sakubai's feet in repentance.

It would seem that these souls take birth for the overriding purpose of experiencing God on the human plane and deriving ananda thereupon. However, as Sri Sathya Sai Baba says, "Preceptors and saints are born from time to time to remind people of their divine heritage and guide them along the spiritual path. In India, there is a rich mine of spirituality and these holy souls come as 'engineers' to operate it, extract and prepare it for use. They also help in the practical application of new modes and methods of extraction and use (of spiritual wealth) for the benefit of humanity." Thus, these evolved souls, serve just by being around on earth, as their lives and transcendental experience shed light on the beauty of spirit, instructing us as to the true source of human happiness. Their experience becomes the truest testimony to the sublime truth of spirit – that we are not only body but a soul with a body. As Sri Sathya Sai Baba says, "Permanent bliss is only within. All human beings thirst for bliss but it is not outside. It can come only from the heart. All man needs to do is manifest that bliss."

Today is Sri Sathya Sai Baba's 85th birthday

Uniqueness of Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba

November 22, 2010, 12:00 pm

My humble salutations at the Lotus Feet of Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. Sai Devotees all over the world are celebrating this week the 85th Year of Advent of Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. It is also the 45th year of Advent of Sai in Sri Lanka.

Ever since his birth at Puttarparthi in Andhra Pradesh India on November 23rd , 1926 Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba had been destined for greatness. According to popular legend, his birth was heralded by supernatural occurrences such as musical instruments playing and a cobra emerging from the house.

Even at a very tender age he was marked out as a different and special as compared to other children. He turned Vegetarian and would keep away where animals were killed or tortured. Filled with compassion, whenever a beggar appeared at the door he would beg and plead with his parents to donate grains or food. He banded together a group of children of his age and taught them to sing Bhajans that he had composed in praise to the glory of the Lord.

Miracles have been a part of his life since the early days and have been the pointers to his divinity. He would relieve ailments that had been pronounced incurable, distribute sweets from empty bag, pluck various fruits from a tamarind tree (since then known as KALPAVIRUKSHA) etc.

BHAGAVAN BABA SAYS :-

" I have come not to disturb or destroy any Faith, but to confirm each in his own Faith, so that the Christian becomes a better Christian, the Muslim a better Muslim , a Hindu a better Hindu and a Buddhist a better Buddhist. My mission is to serve happiness and so I am always happy to come among you , not once but twice , thrice as often as you want me. To set right those who have taken to wrong part and to protect the good people, Sai will be born again and again. I have come to light the lamp of love in your hearts, to see that it shines day by day with added lustre. I have not come on any mission or publicity for any sect or creed or cause nor have I come to collect followers for any doctrine. I have no plans to attract disciples or devotees into my fold or any fold. Believe that all faiths glorify the one and only God, that all names in all Languages and all forms man can conceive, denote the one and only God. His adoration is best done by means of Love. Cultivate that attitude of oneness between men of all creeds, all countries and all continents. This is the message of Love I bring."

It was in the year 1940 when he was 14 years of age on October 20th , in a place named URAVAKONDA in India, that Bhagavan Baba declared that he is God incarnate. Therefore, the 20th of October marks a very important event in Sai History. " Avatar" means ". Why should God incarnate ? Avatar is the "descent of God in human form" God who is everywhere, all pervasive, who is everything, umanifest, blemishless spotless, and without beginning or an end. The Avatar has in him a dual personality, a two fold dimension. One is unless you are so near and dear to a person, it is not possible to establish kinship. So the Avatar comes in a physical frame in order to establish kinship with all the devotees, seekers and aspirants. We, human beings are not aware of the Divinity within. We are always external and worldly. We never make the inward journey. The Avatar, unlike all of us is aware of the Divinity. That is why Bhagavan always says, " I am inscrutable. Whatever I will, will happen. I can transmute earth into sky and the sky into earth. Nothing can come in my way".

Man today is living a most unsacred life. A bird has the quality of a bird. A tiger relishes only meat and flesh man is endowed with discrimination, discreation and the faculty of judgment. Yet humans are not leading a human life our civilization, our technology are used to kill the other man, to meet our selfish interests and to satisfy our selfish ends. So here comes our God to tell us "I am here to tell you that you have to live life in a human way". The biggest miracle that Sai Baba performs is the transformation of the mind of the human being.

Avatar tells us " you are not just a human being . You are not just an organic entity. A human being can live as a human, but he can even become divine. So you are more than you thing you are. Understand you are basically divine". A constant reminder of the latent divinity in everyone is one of the tasks the Avatar has taken upon himself. You find Bhagavan Baba responding to the prayers of those living thousands of miles away. His manifestation is everywhere, all over the world. God is beyond time and space. By manifesting everywhere by showering his Grace whenever he is called upon, by responding to prayers he provides the firm conviction and experience that God is everywhere. That is the Divine Purpose behind an Incarnation.

Bhagavan Baba teaches us the Lesson of Love. Our Love is not selfless. It is conditional. The love between husband and wife , the love between parents and children, the love among colleagues, are all artificial and conditional. Bhagavan the Avatar teaches us by demonstration what selfless love is. When he cures the diseases of the devotees, by giving free medical treatment by making education free, by adopting thousands of orphans, giving them food and education free, he teaches us the Selfless Love. He does not expect anything in return.

An Avatar is always aware of his divinity, being consciously divine and unconsciously human so to say. In contrast man is consciously human and unconsciously Divine. An Avatar is aware not only of his previous and future lives but also the past, present and future of all beings. But man does not know even his own past or future lives, not even his future in the present life itself. Bhagavan Baba always say " An Avatar is one who knows everything but pretends to know nothing, while man is one who knows nothing but pretends to know everything" Man is bound by Space, Time and Causation. He is also limited in his knowledge and power, whereas Baba an Avatar has been giving ample proof of his Omnipresence, Omnipotence and Omniscience. Man is a victim of Ego and wants besides being a slave of desires, while the Avatar is egoless and desireless. In his unique style, Bhagavan Baba says " I have no desires, except the one supreme, selfless desire of making man desireless".

The Divinity is shown in the changes observed by Bhagavan Baba’s Devotees in his bodily stature and colour as well as facial expressions. Sometimes Blue symbolizing Lord Vishnu ad his incarnations like Rama and Krishna. Sometimes white as if besmeared with holy ash. Vibhuthi reminiscent of Lord Shiva. Other times Yellow as if besmeared with Saffron indicative of Goddesses. The natural perfume emanating from his body, the ability of his body to sustain itself with only a few spoonfuls of food and water despite its being Put to incessant work day in and day out. His body’s capacity to withstand the VICISSITUDES of weather as indicated by his wearing the same dress, weather in biting cold or in the heat of summer, the absence of the usual symptoms of grey hair in old age – all these are tokens of the uniqueness of his physical frame.

Baba says that the world wide recognition of his Avatarhood id due to his "SUPRA – WORLDLY DIVINITY IN HUMAN FORM" Baba discourages publicity for himself or his activities through Mass Media. Of course he permits books and publications to be produced mainly for the sake of spreading his message. But he has his own direct independent and unique method of intimating people of all far –off lands including China, Russia and Muslim countries about his Advent through Visions, Dreams, Appearance of Holy Ash, Nectar or Honey, Turmeric for Saffron Powder, Kum-Kum or Vermillion Powder etc on photos and pictures of Baba and other deities. This fact is corroborated by Bhagavan Baba when he says " Remember – I have my own special postal and telephone systems. They operate from the heart straight to the Heart".

Another question may be posed. If Baba is such an unique Avatar why is it that all or at least the majority of people in the world have not yet recognized his Divinity? The reply to the question is Two Fold. One is that no other Avatar had received in the past during his life time such world wide recognition by so many people of so many lands, races and faiths as Baba has. In fact , Baba’s devotees represent people of all countries all races all religions all rungs of the Socio – Economic Ladder, all professions and occupations scientists and laymen. In the case of all other Avatars their recognition on a large scale took place only after their shedding the human vesture. The Second reply is contained in Bhagavad – Gita (Verse 25- Chapter Vii) The reason for most people not recognizing the Avatar is the SPELL OF YOGA – MAYA. The Answer is given in Bhagavad-Gita (Verse 14 of Chapter Vii) " This Divine Spell (Maya) of mind is heard to overcome. But those who take refuge in me shall overcome the spell"

In other words ones has to give up ones ego and surrender to the Lord if one is to overcome the spell of Maya.

To serve society in various ways with the blessings and guidance of Bhagavan Baba, A Trust called "The Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust" has been set up in Puttarparthy – the hamlet of Bhagavan Baba. Its Activities can broadly be classified into 4 categories Education, Medical Care, Relief to the Poor and Services for General Public Utility. The Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences, Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning and other Projects initiated by Baba are run under the auspices of the Trust. Another Trust Sri Sathya Sai Books and Publications Trust takes on the responsibility of publishing books and journals which promote causes that are close to Bhagavan Baba’s Mission Today Bhagavan Baba has followers spread over 225 Countries covering around 5000 Sai Centres and Groups. In India there are over 7500 Sai Samithies and Groups all over the Country.

Bhagavan Baba has been acknowledged for his significant contribution to the provision of Drinking Water to poor people (9 Lakhs) in 731 Villages in Anantapur District of Andra Pradesh by laying 2500 KMs of pipelines and constructing hundreds of reservoirs and overhead Tanks. Remarkably this massive Project was envisaged and completed in a year with the blessings of Baba. Subseqently the following District too were supplied with Drinking Water

One of the primary aims of Baba’s Mission is to make the best of Medical Facilities available to the poor free of cost. On the occasion of his 65th Birthday in 1990, he announced that within a year a Super Specialty Hospital would come up at Puttarparthy. Though the announcement was greeted with enthusiasm everybody in the gathering felt that it was an impossible dream. By the Grace of Baba not only was the Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences formally inaugurated on 22nd November 1991 but complicated heart surgeries were performed on Four Poor Patients, on that very day without charging them a single rupee. Located about 6KMs from Prasanthi Nilayam, the Super Specialty Hospital is housed in an impressive Nine – Domed Structure which is an architectural Marvel. Today it has world class facilities to handle cases in Cardilogy , Cardi-Thoracic and Vascular Surgery, Urology, Ophthalmology and Plastic Surgery. A 24 hour casualty Department and Out Patient Department also Caters to the needs of the patients. The staff and doctors of the hospital, most of whom are volunteers are highly motivated and committed to work with complete dedication. The National Board of Examinations of India has approved the Institute for training Post-Graduate Diploma Students of National Board (DNB) in the specialities of Cardiology. Year 2001 also saw the start of Rs.250 Crores State of the Art Super Speciality Hospital near Sri Sathya Sai Baba Ashram at Whitefield in Bangalore. These Two Hospitals have already provided medical treatment to Two Lakhs of In - Patients and Twenty Lakhs of Out-Patients.

Another colossal Project inaugurated by Bhagavan Baba being Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning. A Non-Profit Autonomous Institution, it is recognized by the Ministry of Education, Government of India and the University Grants Commission as University. The Institute follows an open admission policy based on Merit enrolling men and women al over the countries. The Central Library holds an enormous collection of books and journals from across the world to facilitate the Studies of the Students. Apart from this there are a Primary and High School with hostel facilites where to education is provided free of cost.

With the gracious blessings of Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba "Easwaramma Women’s Welfare Trust" was founded on 18th February 2005 the Trust was setup for social, moral and economic upliftment of women. Under the guidance of Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust, this Trust undertakes certain Projects for women welfare for economic upliftment as well as Medical Care for expectant mothers.

There is a Museum called "CHAITANYA JOYTHI" dedicated to the Mission and Message of Sathya Sai Avatar, constructed to commemorate his 75th Birthday. On display over 8 levels are many exhibits pertaining to the life and teachings of Baba. The interesting architecture of the Building is beautiful fusion of Chinese Gothic and Moorish Styles.

In Puttarparthy You will also find the Eternal Heritage Museum – A beautiful museum dedicated to Man’s Eternal quest for realizing the inherent Divinity. It is spread over three floors, Teachings of the Vedas, Upanishads the Gita and other religions are all depicted here.

Sri Sathya Sai Hill View Stadium is an ornate structure where Baba sits to address the gathering or watch the sports events in the stadium. The Sports and Cultural Festival of the School and Colleges of Sai is held here on 11th January every year. An International Cricket Pitch was laid in 1977 for the Sri Sathya Sai Unity Cup in which many prominent Players from around the world participated.

Sri Sathya Sai Space Theater is a small modern planetarium which provides a Star field of 4054 images , including 88 recognized constellations and 57 navigational stars as well as globular and open clusters, the milky way magellanic clouds and nebulae of different type.

The Official website of Radio Sai Global Harmony (www.radiosai.org) has been offering an internet journal "Heart 2 Heart" since August 2003. This is a free monthly journal sent to Devotees and others.

Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba has taught us the purpose of life. He taught us the objective of life, the way of life, how we have to live in this world. We are very very grateful to him.

Let me end up with the quotation of Bhagavan Baba-

THERE IS ONLY ONE RELIGION :- THE RELIGION OF LOVE

THERE IS ONLY ONE LANGUAGE :- THE LANGUAGE OF THE HEART

THERE IS ONLY ONE CASTE:- THE CASTE OF HUMANITY

THERE IS ONLY ONE GOD AND HE IS OMNIPRESENT "

"There is only one religion, the religion of love"

November 22, 2010, 7:23 pm

by S. N. Udhayanayahan,

Sri Sathya Sai Baba Trust of Sri Lanka

"There is only one religion, The religion of love," says Bagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba.

Sri Sathya Sai Baba is an Avatar who has uniquely come to provide both the solution and the cure to the world living in terror of a nuclear holocaust. He has himself declared, "I incarnate from age to age, time to time, to serve dharma from anti dharma. Whenever strife, discord and disharmony overwhelm the world, God incarnates in human form to show mankind the way to love, harmonize and live in peace.

Sri Sathya Sai Baba is the embodiment of compassion for all mankind. Everything he says or does is out of his deep Prema (love) for suffering humanity. When humanity learns that the way of love is superior to the way of selfishness, jealousy and hatred, it will discover the path to divinity and establish a world based on love and righteousness. "Start the day with love; fill the day with love; end the day with love: that is the way to God". Is Sri Sathya Sai Baba’s constant refrain.

Devotees who go to Bagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba with all kinds of worries, troubles, problems and tensions, and his mere presence dispels all those tensions as his benign smiling face makes them forget all their problems. It is a peculiar experience, being in the presence of one who is at once so simple, childlike, soft-spoken, compassionate and full of love and at the same time so mighty and powerful with answers for all the doubts and worries one may have .

The teaching of Sri Sathya Sai Baba is rooted in the profound message of the Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita, the Bhagavatham and the Ramayanam. Without any formal schooling in these scriptures, Baba quotes freely and spontaneously from them to illustrate his discourses. While he is in this sense the authentic exponent of the spiritual and cultural heritage of India, his mission and message have an universal appeal.

He constantly emphasizes that the ultimate goal of all great religions is the same-namely, the achievement of self- realization and oneness with the divine. The names of God may be different, the rituals and institutions may vary, but the essential spirit and objective of all of them is the same.

Sri Sathya Sai Baba aims not at converting people from one faith to another, but at strengthening the roots of their religious convictions so that they may be more earnest and devoted in their spiritual sadhana

Nothing brings home more powerfully this universal message of Sri Sathya Sai Baba than his unique emblem in which are depicted the symbols of all the great, world religions (Om of Hinduism; the fire of wisdom of Zoroastrianism; the Buddhist wheel; the Christian cross and star cum crescent of Islam) Sri Sathya Sai Baba’s explanation of the sai Symbol calls for close attention and introspection. The Om or Aum is a reminder that you must " listen to the primeval Pranava Aum resounding in your heart as well as in the heart of the Universe" The Fire of wisdom is an invitation to offer all heart and bitterness in the "sacred fire and emerge grand, great and godly." The Buddhist wheel should enable one to " remember the wheel of cause and consequence, of deed and destiny and the wheel of DHARMA that right them all" The Christian cross stresses the need to " cut the "I" feeling clean across and let your ego die on the cross, to endow on you eternity". Finally, one should "be like the star which never wavers from the crescent but is fixed in steady faith."

In his discourses Sri Sathya Sai Baba has repeatedly stressed that all religions implant the seeds of holy ideals in the heart of man, but he doed not allow them to sprout and grow. This is mainly because of his mind. Maths is the word used generally for religion and Mathi means the mind. Putting the two together maths is meant mainly to straighten and strengthen the mathi. The essence of all religion is to purify the mind so that the individual feel liberated and society achieves happiness.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday said there was need for change in university curriculum that would enable a shift in the students' ability to meet the challenges posed by a rapidly growing economy and changing policies.

Delivering the convocation address at the 29th convocation of the Satya Sai Institute of Higher Learning (SSIHL), a deemed university, here, Dr. Singh said: “Students should be in the forefront in addressing the changes of the present day. Accelerated changes in technology are leading to new challenges and students should focus on breaking new path that others will do well to follow.”

The convocation coincided with the 85th birthday celebrations of Sai Baba that began last week.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K. Rosaiah; Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa; Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin; the former Maharashtra Chief Minister, Ashok Chavan; Punjab Governor Shivraj Patil; Andhra Pradesh Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan; Tripura Governor D.Y. Patil; Tata Sons Chairman Ratan Tata; and TVS group Chairman Venu Srinivasan were among those the high profile personalities present.

Dr. Singh said the country was already renowned in several areas, including information technology, biotechnology, space and nuclear sciences and it was important for varsities to sustain the quality of education. Given the larger role played by the country in world affairs, emphasis should be on creating systems that not only provided opportunities to youth the country, but also enabled them on a global scale.

While appreciating the emphasis laid on scientific research by SSIHL, he said this should not be restricted to theoretical world. History, economics, humanity and the realm of culture should also be given equal importance. He complimented the graduating students, saying their lives would not be complete unless the knowledge was shared with the less privileged and less fortunate.

Dr. Singh expressed concern that individuals and institutions, who had the means to take up philanthropic activities, were not emulating the likes of Sai Baba in serving the less privileged. He showered praises on Sai Baba for the service rendered by him to the poor by offering them education and health services free of cost.
