Saving Tutorials For Offline Use

With so many tutorial sites disappearing, you might want to save your favorite tutorials for offline use, so that you can have a copy of them to use at a later time.

The way that I normally save tutorial pages is via the File Menu in my Firefox browser.
File > Save Page As

I create a new folder for every tutorial and I save the web page in that folder.  I also download whatever supplies are needed to complete the tutorial and save them in that folder too.  I have tons of tutorial folders and pages saved this way.

I have run into at least one site which refuses to allow me to save the page for offline use in this way.  So I had to go search a way to save the page another way.  Here is an eHow article that explains what I did to save the page (I used method #2).
How To Save Web Pages As PDF Files

The article above mentions Adobe PDF converter for method #1.  Does anyone use a PDF converter?  I don't know what that is or if my computer has it.  If you use a PDF converter, can you please tell me more about it?

I am interested to know what method you use, if any, to save tutorials for offline use.

Wow, thanks for this info Timber. I want to try that. I haven't used this , but I found this article about an add-on for firefox to convert a web page to pdf.
Here

I think I'll try it out.

I forgot that I have Primo PDF installed on my computer and I can print to that and save the webpage. I looked at a couple of Firefox plugins and read the reviews. I downloaded PDFit 1.15. I'll let ya know how it works.

I love the new version of the free Adobe Reader X! I downloaded it a couple of weeks ago. It allows you to add comments and sticky notes to the pdf document! This is great for tuts and adding variations, notes, etc.

I usually save my tuts as .eml files (Outlook Express) or Word Documents. I try to save all the supplies in folders with the same name if I use the Word doc.

I am anxious to hear new ideas for saving tuts, but I really like the pdf file. I was thinking of creating all my tuts as .pdfs.

I tried out Primo PDF which is a free PDF Printer and I also tried out a free Firefox Plugin called PDFit. Both worked well for me.

Primo pdf (the printer) did not copy the backgrounds on some of the pages I saved, but the file sizes were much smaller than the Firefox plugin (PDFit). The Firefox plugin copied the whole page, including the background and I assume that is one reason the file size was larger.

Judy, thanks for trying out these programs and giving us your evaluation!

I would like to try the free Adobe Reader X as the sticky notes option sounds kind of cool.  Did you download the Adobe Reader X from the Adobe main site?
