I read an earlier post where you were having problems with installing the font thing. I use windows 10 and have an older version of the font thing that works for me. Here is a link to a zip file of the font thing that I use Here.

It is a stand alone version and does not need to be installed.
Here is some info about this download:

Installation

          This is the "quick download" packaging of The Font Thing.
          It contains the complete program and help files, but no
          install or uninstall utility in order to keep the
          download small.

          To install The Font Thing from this set, unzip the
          distribution file to a folder of your choice, such as
          "C:Program FilesFisherThe Font Thing". The folder will
          then contain these files:

               License.txt     License and disclaimer of warranty
               ReadMe.txt      This file
               tft.cnt         Help contents file
               tft.exe         The Font Thing program file
               tft.hlp         Help file

          When you run The Font Thing for the first time, it
          creates two subfolders called "Notes" and "Collections"
          in this folder as well.

          A desktop icon can be created for the program by dragging
          from Windows Explorer.

          There is no need to uninstall a previous version of The
          Font Thing before installing a newer version.

Judy, I wonder if you've ever run into this issue with The Font Thing.

When I open The Font Thing, I can see the button for TFT in the Taskbar but when I click it, nothing happens. When I right-click the button to look at the options, I only see Restore, Minimize, and Close. There is no option to Maximize.

This had happened to me in the past and I was able to fix it, but it's been so long since that happened that I can't remember what to do.

Do you recall this issue or how to resolve it?

timber,
my the font thing is a shortcut icon on my desktop and the only time it shows on my taskbar, is when I have it open.

When I click that shortcut icon, The Font Thing opens in a window and the button for The Font Thing shows in the taskbar.

What happens when you click restore?

Nothing happens. That's the problem. The window won't open and maximize. The button just clicks and nothing happens.

I must be missing a DLL or something. I have no idea.

I just wondered if this has ever happened to you.

Is your The Font Thing installed in your programs or is it the standalone version? The version I have is the standalone and requires no installing or uninstalling. To uninstall you just delete the folder it is in.

If It is the installed version. You may be able to repair it. Some programs have that option if you go to where you uninstall programs. Sometimes when you click to uninstall, there is a repair option. That is just a thought. No, I haven't had this problem with mine.

You might try to uninstall and re-install or try my version. Sorry, if I find a solution, I'll let you know. Good luck.

Here is the web page of the creator of The Font Thing. She has some different sites for download of the versions of The Font Thing. This is where I would download from, if I was to do it. Maybe she can help you. She has some contact info there also.

Thanks for trying to help me, Judy!

I have tried everything and nothing works. It's something to do with my computer. I tried to do some kind of system recovery on my computer. I have done this before and the last time I tried to do the recovery it failed. So I'm having trouble with my computer and that's why TFT won't work.

Hubby also uses XP and he doesn't have any trouble opening TFT.

He wants me to do a system recovery using my discs but then I have to go through the tedious process of installing updates and getting all my software re-installed and have to start over from scratch. I don't usually have the patience for this kind of thing as this is not my area of expertise and I tend to panic when something doesn't work the way I remember. One of these days when I have the patience and courage I will probably start over, cross my fingers and pray LOL.

works for me but when I click on the application it gives me an error but opens the font thing anyways? So with the combination of the font thing and the font viewer I downloaded from microsoft...Im happy. TY Judy
