227 is the natural number between 226 and 228. It is also a prime number.

227 is a prime number,^[1] and a twin prime with 229 (thus 227 is a Chen prime). 223 plus 4 is 227, so they are cousin primes. 227 plus 6 is 233, making 227 and 233 sexy primes; furthermore, 227, 233, and 239 form a sexy prime triplet.

Since (227 - 1)/2 is 113, also a prime, 227 is a safe prime.

It is also a regular prime. 227 is an Eisenstein prime with no imaginary part, and also a Gaussian prime. 227 is a Stern prime since it is not of the form .

• 227 was the highest score ever in the Eurovision Song Contest, achieved by Katrina and the Waves of the UK in 1997, before the Semi-final system was introduced in 2004.
• 227 is the number of days Pi Patel was at sea in the popular novel, Life of Pi. 22 divided by 7 approaches Pi.
