Draco

Draco is Latin for 'dragon' from Greek dracon. 'Dragon' seems to be a term for any mysterious snakelike creature in mythology. Dragons are often depicted as having a snake body on four feet. There is no fossil evidence for dragons ever having existed.
"'The tree of the Summit' was a type of the Celestial Pole, Seat of Judgment, and was guarded by the celestial serpent, the constellation Draco" [1]. "The constellation Ursa Minor which contains the Polestar, Polaris, as is now drawn enclosed on three sides by the coils of Draco; formerly it was almost entirely so" [Allen, Star Names, under Ursa Minor]. This pole, or the constellation Ursa Minor, was also imagined as a tree, and Draco, or the Dragon Ladon, is seen as guarding either the constellation Ursa Minor, or the tree in the garden of the Hesperides. Ladon, representing Draco, was the serpent-like dragon that twined round the tree in the Garden and guarded the golden apples, while tormenting the Titan Atlas (maybe Camelopardalis) as he held the heavens on his shoulders.
There are three known myths of dragons that relate to this constellation
1. One is the dragon, Ladon, who guards the apples in the land of the Hesperides [2]. Ladon was a River-God of northern Arkadia (Arcadia), in the Peloponnesos [3]. This is in the general direction of Ursa Minor, who represents Arcas, from which the name Arcadia derives.
2. "Some also say this Draco was thrown at Minerva (Athene) by the Gigantes (Giants), when she fought them. Minerva snatched its twisted form and threw it to the stars, and fixed it at the very pole of heaven. And so to this day it appears with twisted body, as if recently transported to the stars." [Hyginus, Astronomica 2.3 4] "Today we see him forever asleep as the much-knotted, battered, and twisted Draco" [5]. [Minerva threw the dragon to the stars — or slung it. A German word for snake is Schlange "which is probably related to 'sling'", Old English *slang ‘a snake, sinuous, snakelike, long and narrow and winding’ and slingan ‘twist oneself, creep’ [6, p.195], cognates are sling and slink, from Indo-European *slengwh- 'To slide, make slide, sling, throw', and maybe slang (casual speech).]

The longan tree, 'dragon eyes' from Chinese long, dragon, is so named because of the fruit's resemblance to an eyeball when it is shelled. The black seed shows through the translucent flesh like a pupil/iris. See picture.
The root *derk- should relate to the 'drakon-breeding Dirke', a fountain of Thebes [5]. Derketis (or Dercetis) identified with Dirke which is interpreted as coming from this root; 'to look upon, see, shine (derkô)' [6]. Dirke was the second wife of Lycus (after he abandoned his first wife Antiope), she was jealous of Antiope and had her imprisoned and ill-treated. Antiope escaped and found her sons Amphion and Zethus. In revenge for their mother's mistreatment Amphion and Zethus had Dirke tied to the horns of a wild bull and dragged (drag, from Old English dragan, is not a recognized cognate of 'dragon') to death over rocks. Dionysus made the famous spring, Dirke, near Thebes in Boeotia, spring up from her body.
Dercetis is also referred to as the Philistine Derceto [7], or Derketo, was said to have thrown herself into a lake near Ascalon, on which she was changed into a fish or mermaid. The Greeks recognized Atargatis under the name Derketo, known in Syria as Tirgata, also known as Dea Syria, 'Goddess of Syria'.
"And there appeared another wonder. In heaven; and behold a great red dragon... and his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth...." (Rev. 12:3-4).
The words drag and draw comes from the Indo-European root *dhragh- 'To draw, drag on the ground'. Rhyming variant of *tragh-. Derivatives: draw, drawer, (these words from Old English dragan, to draw, pull), drag (from Old Norse draga, to draw, pull, or Old English dragan), dray (from Old English draege, dragnet), draft (from Middle English draught, a pull, from a Scandinavian source akin to Old Norse *drahtr, drattr, act of drawing), dredge. “The dragon (draco) is the largest of all the snakes, or of all the animals on earth. The Greeks call it drakon, whence the term is borrowed into Latin so that we say draco. It is often drawn out of caves and soars aloft, and disturbs the air. It is crested, and has a small mouth and narrow pipes through which it draws breath and sticks out its tongue. It has its strength not in its teeth but in its tail, and it causes injury more by its lashing tail than with its jaws. Also, it does not harm with poison; poison is not needed for this animal to kill, because it kills whatever it wraps itself around. Even the elephant with his huge body is not safe from the dragon, for it lurks around the paths along which the elephants are accustomed to walk, and wraps around their legs in coils and kills them by suffocating them. It is born in Ethiopia and India in the fiery intensity of perpetual heat.” [The Etymologies of Isidore of Seville, 7th century AD, p.255.]
"Today we see him forever asleep as the much-knotted, battered, and twisted Draco" [8]. To wake a sleeping dragon is to awake a dormant power.
"Dr. John Tanke has theorized that the words dragon and draugr might be related. He notes that both the serpent and the spirit serve as jealous guardians of the graves of kings or ancient civilizations. Dragons that act as draugar appear in Beowulf as well as in the stories of Siegfried" [9]. Draugrs seem to be dream characters or characters from a vision as described here. The word dream is related to Old Norse draugr, German traum, 'dream', Old Saxon bi-driogan, 'to deceive', Old High German triogan, 'to lie', from the Indo-European root *dhreugh- 'To deceive'. [Pokorny 2. dhreugh- 276. Watkins] With Australian aboriginals, creation is the Dreaming.
According to Carl Jung, "the structure of a dream is similar to a drama", dreams are drawn from our life experiences and those past experiences that rankle us influence our dreaming (rankle from the same root as dragon; *derk- 'To see'.)
In Sanskrit *derk- became darsanam, 'seeing, meeting'. In Hinduism Darshan refers to a sight or glimpse of a holy personage, such as a guru [12]. darshana, refers to any of the six schools of Hindu philosophy (literally, 'views').
Greek dorkas, a gazelle (so called in reference to its large bright eyes), from derkesthai, perfect dedorka, see, look at. Drake and dragon are of the same ult. origin. 'dedorka' , 'have seen' 'I see' [13, p.116]. [There is no English cognate word in the IE *derk root referring to 'sight' or 'see', but there is the word 'gaze' (a word of unknown origin) in 'gazelle' which is a translation of the Greek dorkas?]

| THE FISH AND I - 5-24-03 - A DREAM - I was working on a computer, marking off the types of fish there were. I counted 17, made a mark, counted 17, made a mark, etc. until I had counted them all. Each time I made a mark, a new page started.
I also noted that there were 12 types in a ring as well.
A man came through the room and said, "If you look at the side of any fish, you can see what you are supposed to do with it, because it is written there."
That intrigued me, because I had never noticed that you could see writing on the side of a fish.
The man said, "Every fish has a message, and it will tell you even if it is poison."
Again I was intrigued and made a note of that to look the next time I saw a fish.
I then noticed that my husband had a girlfriend he was intending to leave me for, so I took my purse that had all my worldly possessions in it. I took it to a friend's house and put it in her kitchen next to the can of coffee, then I sneaked out the back door so nobody would know where I went. Unfortunately I forgot that I didn't have shoes on and it had snowed so I couldn't go far barefooted.
I got a ride from some people, but again, being barefoot, as they drove down the highway, my feet were getting wet on the pavement, because my feet were dragging on the ground beneath the car like they were a rudder.
Finally I got back home, but there I was with no purse, so I couldn't do anything. So my husband had to drive me back to the woman's house to retrieve my purse.
We got there and he pulled up to the curb but within 12 inches of a large tree trunk and a pile of snow 3 feet high and I couldn't open the car door. He was angry about the tree and the snow so I was glad I had made the decision to hide my purse.
Finally he determined he had to move the car because the tree blocked the car door from opening. So I went into the house and got my purse.
I decided to see how much money I had. I opened my purse and pulled out a bag of candy. There were 17 pieces of candy in the bottom of it, but there was a stack of 17 small chocolate chip cookies in the right hand corner and that was even more important.
My son Bob was there and he wanted to know about the message of the fish, so we went to the kitchen and got the fish head I had left there. I opened the fished head and separated the top from the bottom so we could see the ring of 12 teeth inside.
I told him, "What was important was that I had 17 pieces of candy in it.
THE FISH AGAIN: 5-26-03 - DREAM - I was researching the 17 fish and wrote about them. After the work was done, it was decided to save the information on 3 different levels, indicated by bath towels hanging on silver rods in a bathroom - The towels were colored yellow, light green, and light blue.
NOTE: Following this, the next couple days were filled with coincidences and synchronicities with chocolate chip cookies - we saw them everywhere - on TV, in magazines, in the newspaper and people sent us dreams about chocolate chip cookies and pancakes. That was amazing.

The word zodiac itself is taken from the Greek word zodiakos. It means 'a circle.'
Since so many astrological signs depict animals, like that of a lion, fish, scorpion,
ram, and so on, many have assumed that the word 'zodiac' comes from the Greek zoe,
to live. The root of zodiakos, is actually zoad. Zoad means a way, or a path,
or a going by steps. In this connection, the word zoad describes how the sun
appears to move through the stars -- step by step -- every twelve months.
As the sun returns to almost the exact spot that it occupied on the same date
a year earlier, this course is repeated every year. So the path, or way,
or the going by steps through the sky is called the zodiac.

THE GREAT BEAR, 17 STARS (PT: THE BIG BEAR (URSA MAJOR), 27 STARS);

The stars of the Plough, shown linked by the thicker lines in the chart above, form one of the most recognised star patterns in the sky. Also called the Big Dipper, after the soup ladles used by farmer's wives in America to serve soup to the farm workers at lunchtime, it forms part of the Great Bear constellation - not quite so easy to make out! The stars Merak and Dubhe form the pointers which will lead you to the Pole Star, and hence find North. The stars Alcor and Mizar form a naked eye double which repays observation in a small telescope as Mizar is then shown to be an easily resolved double star. A fainter reddish star forms a triangle with Alcor and Mizar. Ursa Major contains many interesting "deep sky" objects. The brightest, listed in Messier's Catalogue, are shown on the chart, but there are many fainter galaxies in the region too. In the upper right of the constellation are a pair of interacting galaxies M81 and M82 shown in the image below. M82 is undergoing a major burst of star formation and hence called a "starburst galaxy". They can be seen together using a low power eyepiece on a small telescope.
Mizar, at a distance of 78 light years from the Sun, and Alcor at 81 light years, while appearing to be a double star, are actually only an optical double. An optical double star is not a true double star where the components are gravitationally bound together and orbit around each other, but rather a chance alignment along our line of sight. However, Mizar and Alcor are members of the nearest star cluster to the sun, the Ursa Major moving cluster, Collinder 285.
The components of the Mizar multiple star system are Mizar A (Zeta 1 Ursa Majoris at magnitude 2.27) and Mizar B (Zeta 2 Ursa Majoris at magnitude 3.95), located 14.42 arc seconds away. Each of these stars is in turn a binary star, however the companions are so close to their primaries they can only be detected by spectroscopy.
When examining the field near to Mizar and Alcor in a telescope, four stars can easily be seen. The brightest is Mizar at magnitude 2.27. Alcor is about 12 arc minutes away at magnitude 4. Closer to Mizar at just 15 arc seconds away is Mizar B, the 4th magnitude companion. Between Mizar and Alcor is a fourth star, Sidus Ludoviciana, shining at magnitude 8, which is a field star that is not even part of the Ursa Major cluster

Fish were a popular food item throughout The Bible. They were taken from the Sea of Galilee, the Nile River when the Israelites were living in the Goshen area of Egypt, the Jordan River, and the Mediterranean Sea. As its name indicates, the Dead Sea, also called the Salt Sea, did not provide a living habitat for fish.
 The photo shows 2 tilapia, also popularly known as "St. Peter's fish," taken from the Sea of Galilee. Along with them are 5 loaves of bread - similar to what Jesus Christ used to miraculously feed the 5,000 (Matthew 14:15-21). He later fed 4,000 from "a few small fish" and seven loaves of bread (Matthew 15:32-38) (see also The Miracles Of Jesus Christ)
Fishing became a major industry for Israel. Jerusalem apparently had a fish market from the time of the Old Testament (2 Chronicles 33:14, Nehemiah 3:3), with the Fish Gate the likely entrance to it.
It was from the ranks of fishermen that Jesus Christ called His first Apostles (Mark 1:16-20), including Peter and John. Fish and fishing were often associated with His ministry, and later were actually used as a symbol of it.
Jesus miraculously calmed the storm from a fishing boat (Matthew 8:23-26)
Jesus spoke many of His Parables to the crowds while He stood in a fishing boat (Matthew 13:1-58)
Jesus once miraculously paid His and Peter's taxes with a coin taken from inside a fish (Matthew 17:27)
Jesus miraculously had the disciples make a huge catch of fish, so great that their nets were filled to overflowing (John 21:1-14)
Jesus ate a piece of broiled fish with his disciples after His resurrection from The Tomb (Luke 24:42-43).
One of The Lord's most direct encouragements to those who accept and obey Him, and dire warnings to those who choose to reject His offer of eternal life, used fishing as an analogy -
"Once again, The Kingdom of Heaven is like a net that was let down into the lake and caught all kinds of fish. When it was full, the fishermen pulled it up on the shore. Then they sat down and collected the good fish in baskets, but threw the bad away. This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth." (Matthew 13:47-50 NIV)

| Numerology of the Bible deals with all the numbers in the Bible. These numbers can be classified into two main categories: (1) numbers in the surface text and (2) numbers hidden in the text.
To just give you a glimpse of the numbers in the surface text of the Bible, I am simply pointing out the wonder of the number 153.
As we all know, this number appears in chapter 21 of John, where Jesus' 7 disciples, with Peter in lead, were catching fish as they did not know what to do, even after they had seen the risen Lord. They worked hard all night, but caught nothing. Then they heard a man by the shore speaking to them: "Cast the net at the right side of the boat!" They did as instructed and caught a net of 153 big fish, no more and no less. This is the only miracle after Jesus' resurrection recorded in the Bible that is associated with a number. You know, a fisherman seldom counts his fish -- even he does, he counts in a rough number, not in an exact number -- there is little reason for doing the latter. What is so unusual about 153?
153 = 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 + 6 +7 + 8 + 9 + 10 +11 + 12 + 13 + 14 + 15 + 16 + 17
And the number 17 is associated with Noah's Ark (it rested on the Mountain of Ararat on the 17th of the month) and the Lord Jesus' resurrection (on the 17th as well). Amazingly, the Greek noun for "fish" in "153 big fish" occurs in the whole Bible in 17 verses.

The theomatic values of 153 and 17 (153 = 17 x 9) both point to the fact that fish are symbolic of mankind and, more specifically, the redeemed or the elect. Consider these two passages and notice the connection:

In the last chapter of John’s gospel, we find the story of the 153 fish in the unbroken net. This is a gematria puzzle of considerable complexity. To illustrate the point of the story, we will reproduce its key elements.
a. Peter enters the boat, then six follow him (John 21:2-3)
The Greek gematria value of Simon Peter is 1925. If a circle of 1925 circumference is drawn to represent Peter, then it can be filled with six similar circles representing the others. Each circle touches the center and the perimeter. Then a circle is drawn around all seven circles. Its diameter is 1224, which is the gematria value of "fishes" and "the net".
b. Jesus tells the men to cast the net from the other side of the net. (John 21:6)
The net is drawn from the side of the first large circle which represents the boat. Another arc is drawn which now creates the "vesica piscis": the measure of the fish. A large rhomboid fish is drawn into the right piscis.
c. Peter is naked. He wraps his fisher’s coat around him, and jumps into the water from the other side of the boat. (John 21:7)
Another piscis is drawn on the other side, with Peter’s circle in it to represent Peter in the water. The height of the piscis is 1060, which is the gematria value of "fisher’s coat." A four by four net is drawn inside the large fish, and now we find the 153 fish. Each small "fish" has a width of 153, and there are a total of 17 fish: 16 small and one large. 153 is the sum of the numbers from 1 to 17.
d. For extended meanings, we now rotate the diagram so that the net is on the bottom and Peter is on the top.
We now have a diagram of the Gnostic cosmos as described by Plato in Timaeus. The net in the sea represents the shifting world of manifestation, where everything is in a state of flux and nothing forever remains the same. The upper world, the world of gods and first principles, is the Intelligible world: all of the universal laws on which manifestation is based. The middle world of Humanity partakes of both spirit and matter, the eternal and the temporal.

The Symbolism of Apollo at Delphi
This diagram of the 153 fishes in the net is earlier than Christianity and is associated with the symbolism of Apollo at Delphi. Apollo is the earlier Greek personification of the Logos, the universal mediator, and it is ultimately from the mathematical symbolism of Apollo, the god of harmony, that both the diagrams of the 153 fish in the net and the feeding of the five thousand originate. Both of these diagrams are ultimately based on the numerical value of square root of 2 (1.415), the mathematical symbol of the ideal mean between unity and multiplicity, which is reflected in the title THE GOD APOLLO, 1415.
In the Christian version of John 21, the "foundation stone" of the geometry is the central circle of SIMON PETROS, 1925, the omphalos of Christianity, whose number determines the dimensions of the entire diagram. In this Christian adaptation, we start with "the omphalos" to arrive at the symbol of "the net". Likewise, in the earlier symbolism of Apollo, his omphalos at Delphi was covered with a net, symbolizing the veil of manifestation, woven from the central source of harmony. In the earlier version, the central circle symbolizes the omphalos at Delphi, the meeting point of heaven and earth, "the golden mean" of Apollo, The number 153 also figures in Delphic symbolism, for 1530 is the sum of DELPHI, 619, and OMPHALOS, 911.
Finally, if we draw a circle around the three worlds diagram, (above) the all-encompassing sphere has the measure of 7690, and 769, is the value of PYTHIOS, Apollo at Delphi.
When Christianity began, the center represents Simon Petros as the omphalos, "the foundation stone" of Christianity.

This illustration shows how the mathematical progression illustrated in the previous diagram underlies the dimensions of the fish in the net geometry and the feeding of the five thousand. Both diagrams are thereby shown to be differing expressions of the same, underlying cosmological code.
The central figure is a vesica with a width of 1x the square root of 2 (1.415 = THE GOD APOLLO), which defines the diameter of the feeding of the five thousand geometry on the right.
The height of the central vesica measures 1 x the square root of 2 x the square root of 3 (2.448 = FISHES IN THE NET), which defines the height of the 153 fishes in the net geometry on the left.
In the diagram on the left, the rhombus intersects the length of the vesica in the upper world, dividing it into three equal segments of 353 units, the value of HERMES. This represents "Thrice-Great Hermes" or Hermes Trimegistos, a personification of the Logos.
153 as the measure of "the Fish in Archimedes
Archimedes (c 287-212 B.C.E.), in his treatise On the Measurement of the Cycle, uses the whole number ratio 153:265 to accurately approximate the irrational ratio square root of 3, "the measure of the fish" or the vesica piscis. Moreover, Archimedes uses this value in such a manner as to suggest that this approximation was well know to his contemporaries: it required no word of explanation at all.
This ratio, 153:265, precisely relates to the dimensions of the 153 "fish" in the unbroken net, for it defines the height and width of each rhombus in "the net." Figure 52. Since 153 was known in the time of Archimedes as "the measure of the fish" or the vesica, ancient readers skilled mathematics would have immediately recognized the allegory of the 153 fish in the net for what is it: a geometrical "story problem."

Los cristianos saben de Michael como el arcángel que comanda las fuerzas de Dios contra las fuerzas del dragón en una batalla en el cielo. Irónicamente, fue Dios quien puso el dragón en el que puede propagarse el mal todas las noches.
El dragón se introdujo en el Jardín del Edén como Adán y Eva tentador. Se nos dice que, como castigo, fue maldecido por encima de todos los animales salvajes. First I want to present a discussion taking place between two authors who are both providing evidence for their ‘pet’ theories.
Robert Bauvel believes that the stars found on the belt of Orion best represent the alignment of the three main pyramids on the Giza plateau while Andrew Collins is suggesting Cygnus is a better fit.
However in this discussion between Andrew Collins and Robert Bauvel I want to point out how often they both make reference to the fact that the northern sky and its immortal, imperishable, circumpolar stars were indeed held sacred by the Egyptians.
Thanks to ancient Egyptian texts, we now know the Sphinx represents Horemakhet (“Horus of the Horizon”) and is the divine personification of the rising disk of the Sun, fully poised on the eastern horizon. Intentionally aligned toward cardinal east, the Sphinx reflects the ritual significance of the cardinal directions in the Old Kingdom period (2686-2181 B.C.).
Cardinal directions originate astronomically in the daily rotation of the sky around the north celestial pole, a location of high interest to the ancient Egyptians.
The entire Giza necropolis adheres to an accurate cardinal grid.

It has long been accepted by Egyptologists that the imagined skyward ascent of the king’s soul was either in the north of the sky among the ‘Imperishable Stars’ or in the south of the sky amongst the stars of Orion.
This specific belief is materialized in the Great Pyramid of Giza by the so-called star-shafts emanating from the King’s Chamber, where one was targeted north to the circumpolar stars and the other targeted south to Orion.
In consideration of this, it is justified to wonder if the pyramids were not, in some symbolic way, ‘moored’ or ‘anchored’ not just to the circumpolar region of the sky in general but, more specifically, to the pole of the ecliptic, the true ‘pole’ of the sky?

In the Pyramid Texts a stellar deity is generally denoted with the ‘five-pointed star’ ideogram, as they did for the star-god Sah (Orion), Mesekhtiu (Big Dipper/Ursa Major) or Sothis (Sirius).
There were many gods and goddesses in ancient Egypt that were cosmic in character or origins and were avian deities or had avian symbolism such Re (Falcon), Horakhti (falcon), Sopdu (falcon), Montu (falcon), Sokar (falcon), Thoth (ibis), Benu (heron), Geb (goose), Gengen-Wer (goose) and Nekhbet (vulture). Also there were many others, although not avian, who were shown with large wings, such as Maat, Nut, Isis, and Nephtys.

The ancient Egyptians would have noted three distinct constellations within the circumpolar region, namely the Big Dipper (Ursae Major); the Small Dipper (Ursae Minor) and Draco.

These prayers are known as the Pyramid Texts, and they tell us that the final destination of a dead king’s soul was the sky. In particular, the pharaoh flew to the circumpolar stars. Neither rising nor setting, these stars migrate around the north celestial pole without ever slipping into the underworld below the horizon. To the Egyptians they were the ‘undying’ stars, and their immortality would naturally attract a soul in search of everlasting life. In ancient Egyptian belief these stars advanced as a celestial army, parading eternally around the hub of heaven and keeping the cosmos on course with the daily rotation of the sky.”

However, the sky-world was not here, in the east, but in the north, the place of absolute darkness, where the Imperishable Stars are to be found. This is stated again and again in the Pyramid Texts, and was why all major pyramids, and many mastaba tombs, were aligned north and not east.
Once again, this is a universal concept going back to very ancient shamanic traditions which influenced the spread of cosmology and religion worldwide. The transmigration of the soul was very often seen to be reflected in the passage of migratory birds north towards breeding grounds, something present, although previously unexplored, in ancient Egyptian tradition.

The Egyptian ideas of the soul do not fit Cygnus at all. They fit the circumpolar constellations of 2600 BC, which were the Big Dipper, Draco and Ursa Minor. They also fit Orion. I repeat, Cygnus was not circumpolar in 2600 BC. Cygnus was circumpolar before 9000 BC. And Deneb was never a pole star. The nearest it got to the pole was some 50,000 years ago. I’m sure Collins does not want to entertain those dates.

The ahnetjer (Manuel de Codage transliteration: aH-nTr) depicted as an adze-like instrument,[4] was used in the Opening of the Mouth ceremony, intended to convey power over their senses to statues and mummies. It was apparently the foreleg of a freshly sacrificed bull or cow with which the mouth was touched.
The “Frieze of American History” is painted to appear as a carved stone bas-relieffrieze but is actually a trompe-l’œil fresco cycle depicting 19 scenes from American history. The “frieze” occupies a band immediately below the 36 windows. Brumidi designed the frieze and prepared a sketch in 1859 but did not begin painting until 1878. Brumidi painted seven and a half scenes. While working on “William Penn and the Indians,” Brumidi fell off the scaffolding and held on to a rail for 15 minutes until he was rescued. He died a few months later in 1880. After Brumidi’s death, Filippo Costaggini was commissioned to complete the eight and a half remaining scenes in Brumidi’s sketches. He finished in 1889 and left a 31-foot (9 m) gap due to an error in Brumidi’s original design. In 1951, Allyn Cox completed the frieze.
Except for the last three panels named by Allyn Cox, the scenes have no particular titles and many variant titles have been given. The names given here are the names used by the Architect of the Capitol, which uses the names that Brumidi used most frequently in his letters and that were used in Edward Clark and by newspaper articles.

The Aztec calendar stone, Mexica sun stone, Stone of the Sun (Spanish: Piedra del Sol), or Stone of the Five Eras, is a large monolithic sculpture that was excavated in the Zócalo, Mexico City‘s main square, on December 17, 1790.[2] It was discovered whilst Mexico City Cathedral was being repaired.[3] The stone is around 12 feet or 3.7 m!!! across and weighs about 24 tons.[4]
The exact purpose and meaning of the stone is unclear. However archaeologists and historians have proposed a number of theories and it seems likely that there are many aspects to the stone.[5]
Mexican anthropologist Antonio de León y Gama (1735-1802) remarked that the Sun Stone showed that the Aztecs had knowledge of geometry to be able to carve the stone symmetrically and it showed they also had knowledge of mechanics to be able to move the stone from its quarry to its final destination.[1]

Also the MIT scholar Giorgio de Santillana believed that the ancients perceived the pole of the ecliptic as the centre of a ‘whirlpool’ in the sky. In keeping with this hypothesis, R.A. Schwaller de Lubicz demonstrates that the astronomical arrangements of the circumpolar and zodiacal constellations at the centre of the circular Denderah Zodiacshow both the pole of the ecliptic as well as the north celestial pole.
As the author and pyramid researcher Peter Tompkins explained:
“The zodiac (of Denderah) is a circle at the centre of which is our north pole… our nor th pole is correctly located in the constellation of the jackal, or Little Bear (Ursa Minor), as it was at the time the zodiac was carved, sometime about the first century BC. But the zodiac also shows the pole of the ecliptic, located in the breast of the hippopotamus, or constellation of Draco. To Schwaller this explains the spiral formation of the constellations. The mythological figures are entwined in two circles –one around the north pole and one around the pole of the ecliptic. Where these two circles intersect marks the point of the equinox, or due east. The zodiac thus becomes a calendar going back to remote antiquity.”
In the 1970s the professor of the History of Science, Livio C. Stecchini, examined ancient Egyptian charts of the circumpolar constellations, showing the Hippopotamus (Draco) and the Thigh (Ursa Major or Great Bear) as well as a hawk-headed man, probably Horus, seen pointing a pole or spear at the head of the Bull.
According to the Czechoslovakian Egyptologist Zybnek Zaba, the pole or spear held by the hawk-headed man indicated the meridian line passing through the north celestial pole.
But Stecchini did not agree. He maintained that Zaba did not notice that the spear’s head divided the seven stars of the Thigh (Big Bear) constellation into groups of three and four stars. This line defined by the spear, argued Stecchini, does not indicate the meridian passing through the north celestial pole at all but the meridian passing through the pole of the ecliptic.
According to Stecchini, the ancient Egyptians not only understood the precession of the equinoxes but also knew that the true meridian is the one passing through the pole of the ecliptic.
What follows was written in 1901, and it is being ignored today, why?
“The moment primitive man began to observe anything, he must have taken note of the stars, and as soon as he began to talk about them he must have started by defining, in some way or other, the particular star he meant…. Observers would first consider the brightest stars and separate them from the dimmer ones; they would then discuss the stars which never set (the circumpolar constellations) and separate them from those which did rise and set. Then they would naturally, in a northern clime, choose out the constellation of the Great Bear or Orion, and for small groups, the Pleiades (op. cit. p. 132)…. A few years’ observation would have appeared to demonstrate the absolute changelessness of the places of the rising and setting of the same stars. It is true that this result would have been found to be erroneous when a long period of time had elapsed and when observation became more accurate, but for hundreds of years the stars would certainly appear to represent fixity, while the movements of the sun, moon and planets would seem to be bound by no law … would appear erratic, so long as the order of their movements was not known.”
The reflection that Ursa Major was probably the first constellation which made any deep impression upon the mind of prehistoric man in America, as elsewhere, lent an additional interest to the star-group, as I concentrated my mind upon its form and endeavored to imagine it in four equidistant positions, corresponding to the numerals in the symbol Ollin of the calendar-stone of Mexico.
I succeeded in obtaining, in succession, mental images of the constellation in four opposite positions. This effort led to an unforeseen result which surprised me. In a flash of mental vision I perceived a quadrupled image of the entire constellation, standing [pg 015]out in scintillating brilliancy from the intense darkness of the wintry sky (fig. 3, no. 3). At the same moment I saw that it bore the semblance of a symmetrical swastika of giant proportions. This fact, so unexpectedly realized, gave rise to such an absorbing train of new ideas and interpretations of the data I had accumulated, that I left my window, on that memorable night, with a growing perception of the deep and powerful influence the prolonged observation of Polaris and the circumpolar constellations would naturally have exerted upon the mind of primitive man. Deeply impressed with the striking resemblance between the composite image of Polaris, Ursa Major, and certain forms of the swastika, I started on a fresh line of investigation, and devoted myself to the study of primitive astronomy and its influence upon the intellectual development of mankind in general and the American races in particular.
After having worked, during thirteen years, without any preconceived ideas about the ancient Mexican civilization and without formulating any general conclusion concerning it, I saw all the knowledge I had slowly acquired fall into rank and file and organize itself into a simple and harmonious whole.

ANUBIS aka URSA MINOR
Anubis not only opens the mouth of Osiris as the mummy. He also opens the mouth of Osiris as the underworld. Osiris’s mouth symbolizes the “jaws of death”, the entrance to the underworld. In this sense Anubis is the Conductor of Souls, like the Ferryman Charon of Greek myth. Indeed, in his manifestation as Upuaut, “the Opener of the Ways”, he is the ferryman of the solar barque.
This constellation also represents Arcas, the son of the Zeus (Jupiter, Jove), and Callisto (Kallisto – Ursa Major or Arktos). The land that is called Arcadia was named after Arcas. Arcadia, or Arcady, is often described in idyllic terms; the ideal land of rustic simplicity:
“Arcadia has become a poetic byword for an idyllic vision of unspoiled wilderness filled with the bounties of nature and inhabited by shepherds … Arcadia may refer to some imaginary idyllic paradise, immortalized by Virgil’s Eclogues, … Arcadia (utopia)” [2].

URSA MAJOR
The Latin name Helice and its Greek cognates seems to have been the most common title for this constellation with both Greeks and Romans. Of the name Helice Allen in Star Names says that in Greece Ursa Major was referred to as Elix (with the h dropped), meaning curved, or spiral (helix), and Elike, Homer’s Elikopes, apparently first used for the constellation by Aratos (310 BC – 240 BC). Some, however, derived the name from the curved or twisted position of the chief stars; and others, still more probably, from the city Helice, Kallisto’s birthplace in Arcadia [Star Names, see below] (ancientHelike a city on Gulf of Corinth lost in a tidal wave in 373 BC was rediscovered in 2001)
The Roman poet Ovid used this title, Helice, in the Fasti, where he wrote of both the Bears, in navigation. Manilius (see below) also called it Helice. The word helix and the Greek name Helice comes from Greek elix, meaning a helixform, or revolving form, from the Indo-European root *wel-3 ‘To turn, roll’. Think of a large tree, we only see half of the tree. We look in amazement and wonderment at the life that is harboured in its branches and the incredible atmospheric processing factory the tree is. We forget that below us is the other half of the tree, its roots providing a harbour for an entire ecosystem, and the roots are an enormous chemical processing plant.   Duir - Double-ended oak treeThis picture comes from an ancient druid grove in Derby and shows an oak tree (Duir) with its branches and roots entwined to make the circle of life. In the 90s an ancient oak tree was uncovered as the sea went very far out on the Norfolk coast. It had been buried upside-down within a circle of posts, a woodhenge. Time Team built a replica of it that was most impressive and gave you a strong sense of what the place must have been about. I have often wondered what is beneath Silbury Hill, not just what is in it. The Nile as Tree of Life: but which is the root and which is the branch? What is up and what is down? For the Ancients, The Med was the bottom of Egypt, South was at the top. The Delta is the roots.  Black is white. Above is below. Top is down.

Hi gilgal,
Obviously, St. George cannot be the Archangel, Michael, for he lived in the 3rd century. Revelation which mentioned Michael fighting with the Devil in heaven probably represents the angels of God fighting against evil; good fighting against evil, and evil was defeated and thrown onto the Earth. Michael was already in existence since Daniel's time, 2,500 years ago:

Draco, or the Dragon, is a constellation in the northern hemisphere. It was first charted by the Greek astronomer Ptolemy in the 2nd century. In ancient Egypt, the constellation was called Tawaret, after the vigilant, protective goddess of the northern sky, whose body was depicted as part-human, part-lioness, part-crocodile and part-hippopotamus.
In Greek mythology, the constellation Draco was identified with the dragon Ladon, which had a hundred heads and was in charge of guarding the Garden of the Hesperides, the orchard of the goddess Hera where golden apples that gave immortality grew. When Hercules was given the task to steal the apples, he enchanted Ladon with music and put him to sleep before stealing the apples. Hera later placed the dragon among the stars.
Draco is also associated with the dragon that guarded the Golden Fleece and was killed by Jason, as well as with the dragon killed by the Phoenician prince Cadmus before he founded the city of Thebes in Boeotia in Greece. In early Christian mythology, Draco was identified with the serpent that tempted Eve in the Garden of Eden.
The constellation Draco occupies an area of 1083 square degrees and contains five stars with known planets. It can be seen at latitudes between +90° and -15° and is best visible at 9 p.m. during the month of July. For many observers in the northern hemisphere, Draco never sets below the horizon. The brightest star in the constellation is [3438] gamma Draconis or Eltanin ("the serpent"), an orange giant 148 light-years distant. It lies close to the point directly over London and is sometimes called the "zenith star." [3445] alpha Draconis or Thuban ("the basilisk") is not a very conspicuous star in comparison. It is a binary star consisting of a white giant with an apparent magnitude of 3.65, more than 300 light-years away from Earth, and a companion that is believed to be either a red or white dwarf. In ancient times, between the years 3942 and 1793, Thuban was the pole star, the closest visible star to the North Pole. It will reclaim that status in the year 20346.
